Hello you lovely deviants,I was started to work on the Economy Lore as I did have a few requests about how it works in Hedonia, and it got me thinking about basic Currency in the game. This is just a thought, but what if the different villages had different "currency"?So, why would I want to do this?1. I think it would make for more interesting world building

2. From a gameplay perspective it means that you cant really hoard your wealth, as when you essentially get to a new area, you need to obtain the new currency for the local Vendors and Merchants.

However, in saying that the Kingdom might have like a "Currency Exchange" place, or maybe a dedicated store that accepts all, so at least its not all lost once you move to the next areas. This is just me brainstorming, but I wanted your thoughts.

I like it, but the exchange place should definitely happen

Joshua Young

Different rates for different currencies based on the difficulty of the areas

LegoMiner

I think it's interesting to give a reason to do things in other areas instead of just one but there definitely should be a general store that sells common items or whatever for all currency. I don't really like the idea of an exchange store

Moonshine Game Devs

It's an interesting concept, but I'd worry that at the end of the day it'll just be inconvenient. It's one more thing to program on your end, and depending on how much you travel from area to area, I can see constant currency exchange trips getting old fast.

Thank you so much for your feedback Legominer, I really appreciate it

Thank you for the feedback Monty, and for the concerns and insight, really good points!

You ever thought when you have currency in one area and if you want to keep it you can go to a vendor and have a tax to where you have a certain amount that you can get out of the money that you had in one area out of the total to help you get a running start in one area

Sowac

Maybe making one coin more valuable than others can make it interesting for having more rich places have a stronger coin than others. It could also allow for some sort of black marker were things can be payed with any coin, but the stronger the value of the coin, the more likely you get a good prices,... endless posibilities

Spank

What about a system like how Super Mario Odyssey had, where you have an overaching general currency in the gold coins used to purchase more common and/or basic items (gold coins), and then unique, area-specific local currency used in a local area shop for more specific unlocks (purple coins)?

nsfwpixels

Oh that's an interesting thought, I really appreciate that suggestion Evan, thank you!

nsfwpixels

Thank you so much for your feedback and insight Sowac, I always appreciate it!

So it's really funny you said this, as I was thinking the exact same thing just before, I'll likely do a follow up poll about this - great minds think alike haha

Baby Dino

Quests should have higher currency values depending on the difficulty of the quest. I hate games that make you walk all around the map doing stuff for like an hour or more just for the payout to be so minuscule. It makes quests not worth doing

Sowac

No worries! I really like how you are approaching this project and taking so many details into account. I want to help whenever I can with some feedback 😁

GreatRedFox

I like the idea because in the olden days that’s how it was in a lot of the high fantasy books and shows. I feel it would bring a lot of us closer to the feel of what you’re trying to achieve

Brantas

I think hoarding is easily solved by having upgradable pouches. Multiple resources, such as specific wood or ore, are normal, but I cannot think of an economic reason for the Kingdom of Hedonia to have more than one currency. How would the treasury deal with it?

Knack03

I like the idea. Would have to limit the amount of currency you can convert, otherwise you could just farm money in one area and convert it to an area where it is worth more

appleg8_06

This idea is great it reminds me of South Park the Stick of truth where when you were in Canada you had to earn a different currency to get weapons and armor and the had a bank you can go to where you could use your American money and make it Canadian and vise versa.

Leoliano

There could be like side quests and ways to grind for the currency for each area. I play way too much Warframe so I’m used to the grinding.

nsfwpixels

Yeah I completely agree, side quests rewards need to take into account difficulty but also length to complete

nsfwpixels

Thank you so much for the feedback Fox ☺️

nsfwpixels

I really appreciate that feedback and insight, you raise an absolutely valid concern, so thank you for that!

nsfwpixels

Well currency in an earlier area would technically be worth less in a later area, so you could grind a lower level area but after conversion it would have just been better to grind in the higher levels - that's the though process anyway

nsfwpixels

I'll definitely need to recheck that game, I loved it - but unfortunately don't recall this as much. So thank you for the suggestion

appleg8_06

Yeah the bank is located in Ottawa. I missed it on my first play through but on my second I explored a lot more and found it on the left side. Somehow really noticeable but I was probably way to focused on the objective

nsfwpixels

Yeah there would absolutely be options to get currency form fighting enemies, side quests etc 🙂

PlantBro

interesting idea though maybe a bit too tedious if its every village. maybe have areas of the map split and its a couple of villages that make up an area with their own currency. unless the game isnt that big then ignore what i said.

nsfwpixels

Thank you so much for the feedback PlantBro, I appreciate it!

Allan Beach

The only reason I say meh is I think in order for it to work you'll have to create banks in each area to manage funds. I think it would be alot of extra work but it could make for some fun quests or even make it so you can only get certain things in the game in certain areas with certain money. So I'm not saying no but it sounds like alot on your end.

nsfwpixels

Thank you so much for your feedback and input Allan I always appreciate your insights!
