Hello you lovely deviants,I am still trying to think of ways to give combat a little variety here or there, and wanted to get your thoughts on Enemy Shields. One game I like how they have done shields is Destiny. Where the shield itself is based on a certain affinity, and whilst all affinities can damage them, one corresponding affinity will melt the shield/significantly damage the shield.Do you like when enemies have shields, or do you have a game where they have implemented shields really well?

Imagine the shield are the enemies clothes

I like the idea of affinity shields as long as there is a balance and isn't weighted against the player. Like in destiny: not every enemy has a shield and the shield affinity is random (unless modifiers). So as long as they're not overused then should be okay. But also it may be too much as you already have and idea for different element attacks having modifiers so if you have an enemy that has advantage over your element, on top of having a shield with an advantage affinity. That may be a particularly difficult enemy as that would result in like a 0.25 damage output or something

Momo's Workshop

Shields are fine but be careful when deciding how damage the shield soak up, because I don't want to spent an eternity try to kill one enemy unless it a boss or mini boss

Leon

I think if it's done where you can switch affinities on the fly, like certain bullet hells or like Outland, it could make combat very fun/skillful. While not having to switch to said affinity will still damage the shield, that way if you're not super skilled you won't be walled too heavily. But the more skilled you are, the more rewarding it can feel to play. Depends on how ya wanna handle it all!

Ghost xii

Could have a chance for enemies to spawn with an affix such as a sheild or othee abilities such as regen, teleport etc

Thats a really interesting idea, appreciate the suggestion :)

Thank you so much for your feedback and insight Blackwolf :)

Thank you so much for the feedback Ben, I really appreciate it!

As always, thank you so much Leon - I always really appreciate your input!

Thank you so much Ghost, that was kind of my thought, you could have some random modifiers and chances - so thank you for the feedback

Benjamin Rives pretty much said What I was thinking. I think "grunts" or low level Mons should not or barely any shield. My main question would be would we be do we get a shield? does it regenerate? Does it regenerate over time? Do we get it by killing mons and take their shields?

Thank you for the feedback Grimm, to be honest I haven't really thought too much about how our shield would work, but I'll definitely need to look into it 😊

It could be a power up you unlock aswell, so many possibilities with the MC shields. You could also make a difficulty where you don't get a shield

Honestly as a player I hate when enemies have shields, mostly because it makes them more difficult. Lol but honestly I like how enemies are resistant to certain things and the damage done is just less if they are resistant. Im not saying shields are bad just figuring out what the enemy is resistant to, makes it fun.

Thank you so much for the honest feedback Allan, I really do appreciate it! :)
