Why don't both ? Maybe have already existing characters and new ones I don't like both approaches they look restrictive to me, but combining the best of both worlds can be good

I suppose it depends on which characters you want to use. Some are fan favourites, others are not. Perhaps a poll, including the name and image of the characters you want to use?
