Hello All!

The last ever episode has now been watched! I'm sad. I'm gonna miss it but I'm glad I had the pleasure of experiencing it and thanks so much for joining me guys! River is truly brilliant & having a River focused episode was perfect. Earl was terrifying and got what he deserved. Great to see that scene at the end with Mal & River <3

I will watch the Serenity film this month, hope it has the same essence as the show!

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

My favorite episode! Curious, after River stepped on the branch you said "Like stepping on a lego", and then after that you said something else, but I can't make it out.

I saw the movie Serenity first. I wasn't privy to any of the drama. I instantly fell in love with the Crew and the Ship. I then went and watched the series. This is all so bittersweet. I rewatch both whenever I get that itch and I always want more. Thank you for your reactions. I cannot wait for Serenity.

Loved it. This is one of those shows where every episode could be ‘the best episode,’ pretty much, and I wouldn’t argue with anyone’s choice of episode of favorite. Having said that— after all this time, this episode might be my favorite, for real. The way this episode focuses on River, but not only in a plot sense, but also an emotional sense, and the way that it allows space for things to echo in meaning without being stated is so beautiful to me. I watched this show in its entirety years before I ever watched someone react to it, so my thoughts in isolation meant that I was sometimes surprised by peoples’ confusion about River. To me, what River is thinking and feeling has always seemed so intuitively obvious throughout the entire series, not only in this episode, that it was a little bit mind blowing to see how confused other people were by her for so long when watching the show. I think Summer Glau’s performance as well as all the artistic elements like editing, camerawork, etc. just blow it out of the park at every moment through the whole show. tl;dr— I just love how this episode allowed for a kind of emotional storytelling that I don’t see often anywhere.

Sorry if this is stated in the video, I haven't watched it yet, will Serenity's reaction be available to all who's tier permit watching the Firefly reactions?

PaulC

Haha, me too!

And there we are, feels like it's only been seven weeks. Strong episode to finish on, not much of a finale but some nice character moments, especially with River. Early was a pretty chilling villain, particularly when he casually asked Kaylee if she had ever been raped. Ugh. Movie night next week then? 🍿

"I will watch the Serenity film this month, hope it has the same essence as the show!" - do not fear, it's one of the rare occasions when the cinema film actually is true to the spirit of the TV show.

Neumann

i find it very interesting that jayne's inner self isn't crass or aggressive, it's scared and repentant, even after all this time since ariel

Oliver

After you watched the film you definitely should read "Serenity: The Shepherd's Tale" by Josh and Zack Whedon. Imo you can leave out the other comic books but that one's really key because it answers questions that couldn't been answered in the show due to the cancellation.

Robert

River isn't psychic, not really. She just has the ability to read people, Sort of the way that a professional card player can pick up on tells. She reads a persons body language and calculates what they are most probably thinking about. Also Mal knows that River would never hurt anyone aboard Serenity. He just isn't willing to take the chance that he might be wrong. You'll like the movie Serenity.

Oliver

In my opinion there are several scenes in the series that clearly show that her abilities are more leaning towards being psychic. And it is well within genre - even Star Trek with its technology centric explanations uses telepathy and the like. I'm not saying that it is clearly "supernatural" - that would be lazy storytelling -but it's also not being ruled out within the series.

Ian

just the movie to go which is great btw cheers for the journey dak

DB

I can't see the name Zack Whedon without immediately singing Zack is doing us a little favour blessing commentary with his flavour lol

Robert

True enough. There actually is a school of thought that we all have latent psionic abilities, but that part of our brain is "dormant". Maybe what the Alliance did is "awaken" them in River. To bad the series ended because that would have been a VERY interesting thread to follow.

Oliver

😁 but 🤫 (Dakara, don't google it)

Imma just live in denial for a little while longer 😭 Then maybe I can share my overall thoughts on the series.

Hands down my favorite episode of the series, I just love it. As you said, a River-centric episode and she was incredible. I get tricked every time I rewatch this one and I think she did somehow meld with Serenity. I can't remember what upload I made the comment on, but Joss Whedon meant this to be a seven season series, so we didn't get to see the growth of the characters as originally intended, but at least we got a bit. I knew in my heart that you would love this and I'm so happy - in fact, I'll do a Dak: "Called it!". During your intro I was smiling so much my cheeks hurt! I'm also very excited that you'll be watching the movie as well. No spoilers! (TLOU still haunts me) I have to say that Richard Brooks (Jubal Early) was not only incredible, but also incredibly intimidating. I mainly know him from Law & Order (1990-2006) as DA Paul Rubinette, so it was surprising when I originally saw his characterization in the show. One last thing: as the camera closed in on his face as he floats away in space (ooh! I'm a poet!) he says, "Well, here I am...", and I have no doubt that's a reference to Major Tom by David Bowie : "For heeeere am I...". Thank you, Dak, this was so much fun watching with you. And YAY for Fringe!

A few people here are saying this is their favorite episode... I'm a little shocked. I always thought this was one of the weaker episodes of the series (if you can really consider any episode weak). I was worried Dak would not like it. I'm pleasantly surprised. This show in its entirety though... OMG one of my all time favorites!!! I think most of all because to this day I have never found a replacement for it. This show is really like no other I have ever watched. And I've watched a lot. I re-watch it again and again because of this. I love it and no other show is like it. The story and most of all the characters themselves are So Well Written!!! Each and every character feels SO REAL!!! I swear there is not one character that feels fictional to me. I cherish every moment of this show. I'm still heartbroken they cancelled it. I really wish they would bring it back. The Serenity movie did a very good job all things considered... but we needed so much more. The humans in charge really F'ed up on this one. Oh well.... What can we do? Except enjoy what we got again and again... Best of all with new people experiencing it for the first time. This whole journey, as short as it was, was so enjoyable. Thank you for sharing this with us all. Most fun I've had watching this show since the first time. Now on to Serenity!!!

DakaraJayne

yes but only for one week - wednesday 17th to wednesday 24th. Then it will be moved to the higher tier.

Great reaction as always. It was great watching you slowly being won over by Firefly. .... I would love to see you react to another Joss Whedon show ... Dollhouse. It takes a few episodes to really find its feet, but it has the same quality as his other shows. ..... Also, if you want to see more Summer Glau, I highly recommend the "Sarah Conner Chronicles" - best watched after watching the first two Terminator movies. Great movies, and a strong TV show (especially the first season).

DakaraJayne

Dollhouse has definitely interested me, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks so my h for watching Stephen, hope you enjoyed the firefly journey 🙂

Dollhouse stars Eliza Dushko (Faith). It came about from a meal Joss and Eliza had, over which Eliza was lamenting the kinds of roles in Hollywood that were available to young actresses. Joss went to the restroom, and came back with the concept of the TV show more or less fully formed for a doll (Eliza) in the Dollhouse. Can't say more because of possible spoilers. To my mind, it is a near perfect SciFi show, where the ramifications of a new technology are slowly unpacked.
