Hello All!

What a bloody episode!!! I'm still hyped from watching it. Faux Charlie has been caught! Olivia had to end him, she also came semi face to face with William Bell and now she's mad at herself for not trusting his words and putting the weight of this on her shoulders. Broyles is there to comfort which I adore and Nina tried to help but the shapeshifter got in Liv's head! PETER WAS GLOWING GUYS!!! Sooooo much happened in this ep and I'm here for it!!!

Much love

Dakara x

Yess finally this episode, one of my favourites of the season or at least for the first half of it(wink wink), i haven’t been able to comment on the first few episode of season 2 because i couldn’t find the time these last couple of weeks and i felt so bad because there was a lot to talk about but finally i’m able to comment and what an episode to do it on. Like you said this episode has everything that makes Fringe great: the shocking reveals, the new mysterious figure, the suspense and especially the little moments between the characters in the middle of the packed actions scenes, this episode was really firing on all cylinders. We finally get to see the conversation between Bell and Olivia and it starts to shed some light on a lot of things while still keeping some mysteries for later, like why did Belly tell Olivia that she will need Peter by her side? Is it just because he is from the alt universe or is there another reason? Why can’t Bell return to “our” universe? Has it something to do with the fact that “normal” people can’t easily cross between worlds like he said? How did he and Walter know that they would need a guardian? And those are just the first ones that come off the the tipo of my head, just from one single conversation XD, you gotta love it. All of the scenes between Walter Rebecca and Peter were great and that final one!!! Peter glows! (remember that) We also may have finally found the antagonist for the season, though i won’t go too deep on him because there will be a lot to talk about later on, but it was so cool to learn more about how the shapeshifters work, it’s obviously not a new concept in science fiction (far from it) but i’va always liked Fringe’s version a lot, they are so cool and gross at the same time. The final confrontation between Olivia and fake Charlie was intense and i gotta praise Anna Torv once more because that final look before she shoots him in the head is fantastic, you can see every emotions she is feeling on her face, i can’t wait for you to see how they deal with this and how it impacts Olivia because i think it’s very well done. Ok for this episode i think this is enough there is even more to talk about but there will be time i guess one last thing i want to mention for this first part of the season in general is just how good the scenes between Peter and Walter are and they were already amazing in season 1 but since the reveal in ep 20 they’ve on another level, they are doing such a great job in developing their relationship and i think you know why….. P.S. In case i forgot to mention your reaction was awesome XD i really felt that you were on the edge of your seat the entire time and all i can tell you is buckle up because we are still very much in the set up part of the season…

Dakara, you call it "rambling" - we call it "providing outstanding post-episode discussion"...!

lol faux Charlie would never survive in the EU. We have banned mercury thermometers in 2008. Also clearly another item to add on the list of things about Olivia that turn Peter on: knowledge of old sci-fi films lol Tho #1 on that list is her just existing so... On a more serious note, Charlie's death still seems so unnecessary to me. And making Olivia kill him? Sure, let's just add to Olivia's trauma because why not, she can handle it, right? That poor woman :( And I don't like Rebecca almost thanking Walter for experimenting on her because it made her special. Yikes. I know he apologises as well but that whole scene actually makes me uncomfortable. What I've found even more interesting than Peter's glow is her saying she met him when he was a kid and then being cut off just when she starts saying "I could've sworn..." I suppose she already saw him glow back then? I think in both cases it was easy to just blame a psychedelic trip she just went through lol Which reminds me about something you mentioned in yesterday's episode regarding childhood memories. I think the best way to differentiate which Peter they're about is Peter's age (if mentioned). If it's younger than 7 then it's Walter's Peter (or dead Peter but that sounds horrible) and Peter will look confused, and if it's older than 7 it's our Peter and Walter will look shifty ;) And to be fair how many people have clear memories from early childhood anyway. So many of them are just stories that we've heard from our families so many times that we convince ourselves we remember. Ok all of this sounded more like a rant than intended. I swear I truly loved this episode!

This episode just hit the feels. First, Olivia having to kill “Charlie.”….even though it wasn’t really him, he had his face and she had to kill her partner. And Walter. Dear loveable Walter. How do you not adore him? (Well, not you, since I know you do lol. I mean anyone.) He is just so soft and childlike in so many ways, despite his absolute brilliant mind. I just love him. And I love he and Peter building their relationship…but it scares me what may happen if Peter finds out what Walter did, bringing him from the alt universe. Where Olivia met Bell was actually a hint that it’s the alt universe since it was in the Twin Towers which were destroyed in 9/11. (That’s what Bell meant when he said the fact that they could even meet there was due to people making different choices.). I know what you mean about not being sure of Nina… she is clearly powerful and in the know of Massive Dynamics activities, yet she seems to legitimately care in some way for both Broyles and even Olivia. I love Walter’s relationship with Astrid. If you notice, in high stress times, Walter DOES get her name correct. It’s only in casual, normal cute interaction with her that Walter gets it wrong. I think by now, it is his way of calling her more f a (platonic) form of endearment, which I just adore. 🥰 I CANNOT WAIT for you to see some of what is coming!!!!!!! (PS if you ever start another show… even to just check out the pilot… please consider the series 12 Monkeys. Trust me, it will be right up your alley 100% …. It is amazing!!!!)

I understand what you mean about the apology scene, but I’m still happy that Walter did say it. I think I give him a bit more leeway in her case since she did know what she signed up for even for the first ones, and was a consenting adult. Probably during that era she was even enjoying the free acid trips a bit lol. I take more issue with Walter and Bell experimenting on children. But I think it also shows how much Walter has grown in empathy and ethics to recognize that even if the “subject” consents as an adult, they still may not truly understand the dangers, but Walter did. I think she even truly grew to care about Walter during those early experiments. I’m kind of glad with the kiss the writers had her say how she’s been wanting to do that for so long, kind of implying they never had any kind of physical relationship during those early experiments… because that to me would have absolutely been crossing a huge line. I really love that Walter is starting to put the person ahead of the experiment. Especially since we know how much he absolutely loves experimenting and learning more about the universe. (PS but of course I totally respect your views and opinions on this scene and in no way mean to negate your feelings on it.)

DB

I know what you mean! I'm almost there with you? If that makes sense? IMO she might have been a consenting adult but she was also a young woman smitten with an older person of authority. Plus he was married (it did bother me to see Walter reacting as if they had an affair back in the day when they clearly didn't per her own words. Tho tbf we know nothing about his marriage. They could've been swingers all through the 70s lol) But I think beyond the in-universe implications what bothers me is a potentially harmful message that it puts out there without a proper discussion about it (so far). It just seems a bit flippant to me? He's an endearing character easy to forgive which we automatically do despite the absolutely abhorrent actions of his past. He admits (thankfully) his mistake, yes, it shows his growth etc. I just wish it didn't read as her basically glorifying unethical behaviour. Basically I hoped they would write her a bit differently? I just think it wouldn't hurt for the writers to approach it with a bit more caution, that's all. I'm not sure if I explained it better this time... But no worries, I'm always happy to discuss different approaches :)

Dear Dakara, I live for your gushing and rambles. I want to hear everything you're thinking about this show. Every theory, every thought, sometimes you will be right, sometimes you won't, but I live for your rambles and fangirling. As a longtime viewer of the show that's where i get my enjoyment seeing the happiness and amazement in your face and finding someone else who loves this show as much as I do.

Neumann

the fun fact that if you look back at the season 1 finale, at the scene where olivia /almost/ crashes, the camera seems to stutter or something. it looks more jarring editing at first but in retrospect, it's olivia being pulled into another world and it /wasn't/ a near miss. i just find that so cool also: balthazar from spn! lol

Shape

Sebastian Roché is awesome, he also plays in Supernatural and Grimm!

BunkerGirl

I totally get what you mean and agree with you completely. I think you worded it perfectly!! <3

I'm really happy to see your enjoyment of Fringe. I truly appreciate your attention to detail, your way of thinking, and your endless curiosity--it makes rewatching the show so much more fun. There's often a discernible difference between people who like Fringe and those who love it and connect with it, getting so much more out of it. When you mentioned the things that are a bit "out there," like the mercury shape-shifters, you're right--it is unusual. However, that doesn't make it impossible. Taking the shape-shifters as a specific example, it requires stepping outside of our morality, where unethical experiments and research could lead to what we currently deem impossible. Non-theoretical limits are often defined by what we act on--or don’t act on--based on what we know. In research to treat facial paralysis, we've learned ways to change a person's appearance using rudimentary transcutaneous electrical stimulation (simple electrodes attached to the skin). This doesn't alter physical parameters like the size or bone structure of someone's head; however, by actively controlling facial muscles, it can alter a person's appearance to resemble someone else. Instead of using this to make someone look like another person, it is applied to restore a patient with facial paralysis to their previous appearance. Thanks again for fun reaction and for all your thoughts. It isn't rambling when you have so much to say. PS I hope your YouTube Fringe views are picking up. There is a Fringe audience that will love you and your clever curiosity, so hopefully YouTube will help them find you.

That made me crack up when you said " I feel sorry for whatever dog walker that's going to stroll by a bunch of heads" 😆 I made sure to finish my dinner before starting another episode with you. You get queasy at the same parts that I do. Also, I tell you I hope you feel better, but these videos are fairly old so I'm sure you got over the cold lol . But I hope you had a great weekend and again thank you for reacting to this. Show. It's giving me something to look forward to everyday

I feel like this episode was the turning point when the show went from being great to completely Phenomenal
