Hello All!

Loved this episode! The Observers are fascinating, aren't they?! Looks like one is starting to feel human feelings as well - ew, imagine having feelings haha. Walter being so on edge in this episode passed onto me is2g! Peter is really getting sus of the situation and the closer he gets the more anxious I am!!

Much love

Dakara x

Hi Dakara, another excellent reaction, and an EXCEPTIONAL analysis/discussion...! Thursdays & Fridays = the high points of my week...

YES, i've been waiting for this episode! do you think you spotted the observer this time? lmao seriously though, this episode is so perfect. on top of the emotional aspects with olivia and ella, and peter and walter, we even get a couple cute moments with polivia. but mostly we both get answers and more questions about the obsververs, like there's more than the one, they have names, and apparently feelings do not come naturally to them at all but it seems they CAN develop them (and judging by the others' certainty that august's perception was flawed instead of seeing that it was an emotionally driven decision, they also aren't expecting to develop feelings, period.) we've been wanting more information on them this entire time and now there's not only an entire episode centered on them, but one that seemingly comes in the middle of a bit of a sea change for them if one has developed feelings. btw, i always interpreted august's love as that of a protector/father. like, he saw her crying and alone but being so brave, and he wanted to shield her so she wouldn't always have to be so brave. very parental to me and yes, what mirko said lol

Dakara, there is nothing to worry about, you did not miss anything (scene in the car, steering wheel, display,...) In fact, you immediately identified the 'product placement' moment - Ford Motor Co was a major sponsor of the series...

There are so many great episodes in Season 2 but for some reason this one continues to "cross my mind" the most lol. It expands on the Observers, shows us there are more than one and also that they are capable of feelings and even love. I never took his use of the word "love" to mean anything romantic. To me it was always just brotherly or fatherly love, he came to care for this girl the way a father or brother or friend would care for another person. She meant something to him and he had to do something to protect her and he was willing to sacrifice himself to save her...what a story. This episode does what most good episodes of Fringe does, it answers some questions and creates many others. I love this episode. When I think back to season 2 of this show I always remember "August".

"Is he her father?" - You noticed how the observer felt for the girl. Trust yourself; you’re often ahead when you think you’re behind or missing something. If you hadn’t dismissed what you already knew, it wouldn’t have seemed unsettling when he said he loved her. I hope you don’t let us, the commenters, push or pull you into censoring your thoughts or words. Sometimes, being 'wrong' is actually a glimpse into a deeper truth. You were 'wrong' in thinking he was her father, but you were seeing the larger picture --a truth that transcended the details. That’s impressive. Stay true to yourself, keep being you, and keep doing what you do. We’re here to share in your experience - it’s often remarkable and always fun. Lastly, don’t worry about the 'hindsight experts.' They were likely clueless the first time they watched. Condescension is wonderfully ironic, it usually is a self-report --a tell, revealing the person's insecurities. (Edit: I’ve noticed that when I comment here, it reads as if I’m talking to my younger sister. I hope it’s taken in that spirit - with care and thoughtfulness - when I’m explaining something, adding information, or sharing insights.)

Finally got a a chance to watch you reaction and (as usual) it did not disappoint, like other have mentioned this one is a pivotal episode when it comes to world/lore building it’s sets the stage to expand even more on the observers later on and now we know much better how they operate and the fact that they are not impartial observers but that (at least some of them) can grow affections for the people they encounter and that fundamentally changes how you view them, more to come on them later on for sure. I also love how much Peter is on edge this episode because he feels like he’s close to finally getting some answers and on the other end Walter is on edge because but for the opposite reasons, this whole subplot of Walter trying to keep the secret is so good and leads to so many critical scenes in their relationship. Also love the little Polivia moment in the Car with Peter revealing once again that he has it BAD for her XD. Then the ending comes and an episode that seemed to at least end on a good-ish note turns into dread when we hear the observers talk about Olivia’s future and well they ain’t wrong…..

I actually always enjoyed when they'd advertise the features of some car or something in-story of a show rather than watching a separate commercial for the same item. I remember them doing this quite a bit on shows in the 90s and early 2000s. Many people point this stuff out, but I prefer to see actual products because they usually don't take me out of the story as much to see real world products being used as much as if they have Crispo Cola or BAM cereal. Those take me out and make me laugh. I usually don't think about it when they use real products, except I'm in the minority 'cause it seems that when I watch with someone or see reactions, everyone else loves to point out "product placement!" whenever they see them.
