Hello All!

Really interesting topic in this one! Premonitions of death... Mr Bruckman felt it a curse and this episode showcased why. The ending was very sad, I did however feel like I was locked in on this watch and my predictions were quite well done if I do say so myself. Question though, if you could find out how you die, would you want to know? Let me know in the comments...

Much love

Bless you many times. Like I said before, it's that time of year for everyone. I've been sneezing my head off the past few days. This episode deals with the uncertainty that is the future. It's a topic that's been handled in various other media. It's either fixed and cannot be changed, or mutable, constantly changing as it moves along. Mr. Bruckman saw the end as fixed. Absolutely nothing could change it. I'm puzzled by his telling Mulder about the red tulips. Maybe just a weird dream.

This is my favourite episode of the X-Files. It's Darin Morgan's second X-Files script (the first being the similarly great Humbug) and I love his writing voice. Unlike so many filler episodes, this one feels very carefully thought out and well-structured. There's not a single scene that feels misplaced or makes me think, "Why is this even in the episode?" A detail I especially enjoy is that the killer is credited only as, 'The Puppet', and otherwise unnamed within the episode, which I think says a lot about the show's views, at least in this episode, about free will and fate. I'm reminded of Angel's comment in season 2: "If nothing we do matters, all that matters is what we do," which is the opposite of what Mulder asks Bruckman. I think it says a lot about the character of Mulder, and his own rather nihilistic outlook. And the ending, while sad on its face, I find more bittersweet. It is perhaps more ambiguous commentary on free will versus fate. Clyde Bruckman decided his gift/curse was too much to bear, and having had a vision of his own death, decided not to try to avoid it, because he could finally be free of his burden. My favourite part of the episode, though, is Bruckman smiling and telling Scully, "You don't," in response to her asking him how she dies. When I first watched this, I came to two possible conclusions: 1. Scully is immortal. 2. He saw something so horrific he couldn't bear to tell her and lied. I think the second option can be ruled out, because he definitely seems like a bluntly honest person who would truthfully answer such a straightforward question. And Scully was clearly unnerved by it (Gillian Anderson for all the awards, she makes the best facial expressions) so I think she may have believed him. I also choose to believe she is immortal.

This is one of my favorite episodes, in the top 10. Clyde Bruckman's (Peter Boyle, Emmy Award winner for this episode) was such a big get for the show at the time. I loved Gillian's snarkiness throughout the episode. I truly fell for her in this episode.

Interesting episode.

Definitely would not want to know. I love this episode. Very unique and quirky.

I've been clanging and banging in the gym for years and if it means not eventually getting that infamous, "them arms though!" from you, in a Dakpack meet up, I wouldn't wanna know how I bite the dust. This is definitely one of my favourite episodes. Especially loved how dismissive Scully was of any psychic talk until it concerned Mudler’s fate. She sure perked up then, “What? What do you see?” More fuel to that ship of yours. Haha.

This is rated as the best episode of X-Files on IMDB,. Many shows have used a similar character in being able to see future visions, one thinks of Doyle from Buffyverse show Angel. Peter Boyle is outstanding here and was awarded an Emmy for his performance. Very sad when he says to Scully he sees them together, and she says there are 'hits and misses', but of course this is the sad ending for Clyde which he has seen. A brilliant scene when he says to Mulder do you know how you are going to die. A brilliantly written episode from S3, proving that the so called stand alone episodes can be superb in this show. BTW The Stupendous Yappi definitely a send up of Uri Gellar. I absolutely loved this episode, the quality of episodes in S3 is incredible.
