Hello All!

Do you ever sit at night and ponder, when suddenly you're hit with dread? - 'Scully hasn't been bound and gagged in awhile!', I know the time is coming soon!!! This was that episode!!! Very creepy episode again but more of a chilling one than the jump scares in the prior episode. Serial killer meets a supernatural twist!

Much love

When Scully woke up bound to a dentists chair I was thinking, "An old guy with an accent better not come out and ask her if it's safe.". The part about the Trans-orbital lobotomy was, unfortunately, a real process. It was believed that a person could be "cured" of mental disturbances by killing parts of the brain. Interesting note, even into the early 1900's, some people believed that evil spirits were responsible for various mental disorders, and could be exorcised. Scully saved Mulder in the last episode, so he got to save her in this one. Makes you wonder which of them will be next. Frankly, she's got to be tired of being the damsel in distress.

Back with a bang here in a superb Vince Gilligan written episode Unruhe. Such an interesting concept here with the psychotic killer able to project his thoughts on film in some kind of psychic photography. So many great things about this one with gripping tension throughout, poor Scully can't catch a break again after Tooms, Boggs, Pfaster, Incanto, the residents of Chaco Chicken Town etc, and now the deranged Schnauz. Chilling scene when Scully is looking at the brain scan and sees that irreparable damage has been done to the victim's brain in almost amateur brain surgery. The implement with which Schnauz mutilates his victims is not dissimilar to The Alien Bounty Hunter's weapon, except this primitive version is not put at the back of the neck, but driven through the eye socket! Again brilliant scene when Mulder explains the photo of the extended legs to Scully and Schnauz is looking on. Great scene too when the Police Officer see his own photo of his death with the gunshot. Once again we have Scully kidnapped and facing impending death only for Mulder to once again save her at the last minute. I thought this was a great stand alone episode written by Vince Gilligan which had everything that the previous episode did not.

Another MOTW banger, I love these one-offs that leave you wondering. And yes, Scully in harm's way was overdue...it's a time-honored X-Files ritual. Pruitt Taylor Vince is the "bad" guy here. I remember the previous year he was in a movie called Heavy, with Liv Tyler, and I thought his twitchy eye thing was for the role. Then, when I saw him on this X-Files episode, I saw it again. Apparently it's some eye condition he was born with. In that movie, it makes you feel sad for him, and in this episode it makes you think he's demented, a testament to how he used his impairment and what a great actor he is.

"very X-File-y" "fitting for the show" "the sweet spot that the X-Files does so well" I have just one thing to say to that. Or rather hum. ♪Du-du-du-duuuuuu ♪
