Rating - 10./10 - RIP ROWENA! I just hate how this show cripples me week after week & yet I continue to look forward to what's coming?! How messed up is that?! I am glad to see the Billie's words about Sam being the one to end Rowena was true BUT ouch my heart! (Still kinda wanna believe we haven't seen the last of her). The chat between Cas & Dean was a KILLER! Hate when they fight! Ketch also was a gonner in this one & I didn't expect that at all-he was a changed man too! I'm glad Bel was ended by Cas, he HAD to be a snake & sure enough he was. Is Jack gonna come back???? I have questions damnit!!

When we first found out Sam was the one who would kill Rowena my sister and I used to try to game out how that would happen. We both settled on the theory Sam would have kill her for the greater good. That she like so many others had been around the boys for so long she wouldn't die a villain. Sam and Dean always eventually infect others with the will to do good. Even Ketch was on that path after all he'd done. My heart is breaking for Cas right now. He was right about the demon and it must have been awful for him to burn Jack's body. Ever since Mary Dean has just focused all this hurt and anger on him. He doesn't deserve it and I just want to shake Dean right now about pushing him away.

When filming that final scene between Dean and Cas, that particular scene hit Jensen hard and emotional, that it gets to him that soon they will also be having those "goodbye moments." From TV Insider: While looking away toward the metal, art deco staircase in the Men of Letters bunker, which serves as a hideout for the hunters, Ackles continues, "There’s a scene we shot recently that really got to me. Cass decides he’s going away ... [spoiler] it felt like that to me. It made me think about how it’s the last time we’re going to [have a moment like] that. [It reminded me of] the last episode of Cheers when someone knocked on the door and Sam [Ted Danson] said, ‘Sorry, we’re closed.'”

I feel like Cas is walking away from a bit of a toxic relationship with Dean at that moment in time. Even though I hated it, I respected Cas for walking out. Dean really needs therapy! Where's that shapeshifter therapist when you need her lol

Luis Nov

This freaking episode!! Rowena, massive respect, what an amazing Queen. She really changed, she was part of the family, she was a hero😔❤️ Cas… he just keep suffering and you can see it as the truth. Far to often you feel as Dean is only using him. He has to kill “Jack” again in order to save the world, with his hands and yet, Dean blames it. A demon level of that could be more dangerous than they could work on now, I mean, it took a season, the mark of Cain and the first blade to kill Abaddon. On a side note: I don’t think the souls were on Bel still, it thought they maybe in the horn but who knows. “Why does that something always seen to be you” absolutely KILLED ME, it was on a spite, said so fast that shows that Dean actually believe it and it made it truth what everyone has been telling Cas the whole show “they were just using you…” Of course its not true (as you said, Dean is passing his anger to cas) but in here, it feels like it. Anyway, im off to cry about it 😩 Love your reaction and your thoughts at the end ❤️🙌🏻

Luis Nov

Totally respect Cas leaving

This episode to me was very memorable for the way they carried out the whole Rowena killed by Sam prophecy. I just think starting from back in s10 when Sam first went to Rowena for help with mark of cain to now, they have evolved so much. It was painful, and to think she calls him her protege is so nice and heart warming. My heart breaks for Sam because why is he always put in these situations. He is the one who empathises with "monsters" and starting way back in s2 from the werewolf who asked him to kill her to so many instances in between to now this. I think Dean also gets negatively affected when he sees Sam in emotional pain like this. I usually agree with all your opinions but as far as Cas is concerend, I differ. He is certainly not responsible for Mary's death but who cares if Belphegor ruled hell? I think he let his emotions toward Jack get in between their mission, which ultimately led to Rowena sacrifising her life. I agree Dean sometimes has misguided anger but Cas has ALWAYS been acting almost like a child when his insecurities re: the winchesters are manipulated. This is the reason he also let Lucifer out in s11. Just because someone said he is not valuable to them. Do I think Dean should have been less harsh? Yes ofc. But Cas also needs to really evaluate his decision making skills. 😕

Hasnaa

Bel didn't want to just rule hell, he wanted to rule the world

Ali Jacome

OMG I hated Dean so much here. I love him but for Cas to made that decision... He had to be really hurt and finally enough was enough. I love them but they needed a break, it is not healthy. And yeah, what Dean said hit me hard!!!! 😢😭

Hasnaa

U reached the breakup episode 😭, it's even named "the rupture", which is a reference to the physical hell tear in the ground & the metaphorical ruptured dean & cas relationship, This episode is so hard, ketch died for nothing, the demon figured out the boys location by using his phone anyway, Sam killing Rowena is so tragic but cas having to burn his son's body with his hands hit me even harder, u can see on his face how gutted he was to do it, he was tearing up, pretty sure he didn't enjoy that & he tried talking to dean about jack's death & about his powers failing for some reason but he couldn't, cas also knows how that much power can corrupt a good being let alone a demon (bel), remember when cas sucked lots of souls from purgatory & became a god? It didn't go down well, they're already fighting an evil god, they don't need to fight 2 evil gods simultaneously, I know dean lost Mary but he isn't the only one who lost her, Sam, Cas & jack lost her too, in fact, Sam lost both Mary & had to kill Rowena with his hand yet he never blamed Cas coz that's ridiculous, Mary was cas's friend, cas killed billie to save mary from the deal that the boys made back in season 12, if it wasn't for him, mary would've died in season 12 because of a deal dean made, even then when Cas saved Mary by killing Billie, dean gave him the silent treatment & was mad at him for it, coz dean expresses worrying by anger, sadness by anger, etc..., Cas can't win, then chuck literally killed cas's son right in front of him & he couldn't heal him, he felt useless, he lost both jack & dean, what else is here for him 😭, I just wish dean wouldn't result to & hold on to anger instead of just talking about his sadness like Sam does, he needs that shapeshifter therapist that he can talk to about monsters & Apocalypse & god without sounding crazy, Rowena's death was her choice not on cas & mary's death is definitely not on Cas! & who's to say that if Cas had let bel go on with his plans to rule the world, that dean wouldn't have blamed him for it just the same? He was still mad at him for something that wasn't his fault & it didn't matter much what decision Cas made, he was always gonna lose, Bel was playing on cas's biggest insecurity, that he's just a tool for the Winchesters, that they have no need for him when he isn't being useful, he always wants to come home with a win for dean coz he often feels like a screw up, so that line ( why is that something always seems to be you) cut so deep where it hurts, I applaud Cas for standing up for himself & walking away coz dean needs to realize that continuously covering your emotions with anger isn't a healthy way to live & it can drive his loved ones away from him, i love dean so much but he needs to learn that lesson, it still hurts so much to see two people who love each other so much break up 😭, great reaction, dakara 👏

Luis Nov

Agree 100% Dean would have blame Cas anyway regarding the outcome cause he’s just pissed, like what if in that exchange someone close to him were killed, like Sam then he would have blame Cas just the same 😩

PongPong31

I'm a little surprised you've given the episode full marks. I can understand why though. This was one whopper of an end. It really was an explosion of feels and emotion. But I'd have thought watching your overall reaction to the episode, the little gripes you kept voicing, would have dragged it down just that tiny bit for you. Having said all that, I was a mess too, the first time I watched it. Haha. Loved it.

Susan Sebert

A love/hate relationship with this episode. Loved seeing Ketch and Rowena sacrificing themselves for the boys and hated that they died. What Dean said to Cas put a knife in my heart. Dean is so hurt and damaged he can't see how he hurts others, especially Cas. No spoilers, so on to the next.

AdoptDontShopPets

lol the shapeshifter therapist should have been living at the bunker she’d be so busy with them 😂

AdoptDontShopPets

One of the best episodes of the season, even with the deaths and the sad ending. I was surprised to see you crying harder over the break up than over Roweena‘s death. Both are heartbreaking. Roweena‘s death scene was pretty epic, especially with the flare of the Scottish music at the end. I enjoy the next episode as well so today is a good viewing day for me.

Purple Nurple

True. Look at Cas when he had purgatory souls inside him. Just imagine Belphagor had 3-4 billion hell souls in him, he would have been even more corrupt than he was! And with Jack being his vessel - the most powerful being pretty much, it could have held all the souls and he could have been more powerful than Chuck or Amara.

JoDaNa81

Terrific, but very emotional episode...a fitting end to the 3-part season premiere! Love the title referring not just to the literal rupture in the earth, but the emotional one in Dean & Cas' friendship.

Hannah

ahh the breakup scene, we definitely weren't prepared when the writers said dean and cas' relationship would be a major story line in s15 after marys death

Luis Nov

Hate is a strong word but I was so mad at him but yeah I agree, he needs to step away, it was not healthy so I stand on his decision, even when I wish it had never happened in the first place 😔

Canicula

As much as I love Cas, I can see where Dean is coming from and unfortunately he's not that wrong. Cas showed really bad judgement in the past with his plans. When he opened Purgatory to defeat Raphael it was with good intentions but it let loose the Leviathans, caused him to be power hungry, murder people and almost devastate heaven. When he worked alone next time to fix this he unwillingly caused all the angels to fall. Cas is the main reason the Angels are so decimated and weak they couldn't protect anyone from the Empty invading and might not be able to run heaven to keep all the souls. He was the one first to realise something was off with Jack and said nothing which did lead to Mary's death. If Rowena didn't had the back up plan to sacrifice herself (which Css knew nothing about) stopping Belphagor could have caused billions of vengeful spirits to get out in the world. It could literally have caused the end of the world. Dean is hurting a lot at the moment and he definitely should not let it all out on Cas but his reasoning is not that wrong. Whenever Cas goes off and does his own plans it usually ends catastrophically.

Hasnaa

Cas wasn't the first one to notice something was wrong with jack, they knew before the snake, in the milkshake episode, Cas begs dean to take jack to Donatello coz he was worried about his soul & dean was like why do I have to figure that out, the angels falling wasn't cas's fault & he wasn't the only one tricked by metatron, Sam & dean were too coz metatron helped them rescue Kevin, dean even helps Cas acquire the second ingredient ( Cupid's arrow), as to purgatory, that's exactly why Cas didn't want bel to repeat his own mistake, he couldn't let him suck 3 billion souls into him, he would've been as powerful as chuck if not even more powerful, then what would've happened? Dean would've blamed him for it just the same, just another screw up, also keep in mind that Cas killed Billie to save Mary from dying because of a deal dean made in season 12, so if it wasn't for Cas, Mary would've died in season 12 & they wouldn't have gotten that extra time with her & it would've been dean's fault coz like Cas said "something always goes wrong) no matter what decision they make, it would always end bad coz chuck is writing a story & he's an asshole, Cas makes mistakes but he also does lots of good that gets overlooked, even when Cas saved Mary, dean got angry at him for it, he literally can't win

DakaraJayne

You and your sister are very wise! Clearly know the characters so well, Sam is definitely a ‘greater good’ enforcer and it makes total sense that he’d have to do that with Rowena. Rowena wanted it, she knew what it meant and embraced it. Who’d have thought she’d end up doing what Crowley did in the end. Helping the boys. Dean is definitely hurting and projecting his anger in the wrong place.

rose mnor

For what it’s worth, most if not all of Cas’s ‘transgressions’ that have been mentioned in the above comments, Dean has already forgiven Cas or is aware that they are not because of Cas. But anger makes people’s perspectives crazy and went sideways and upside down. Previous emotions come welling up again even though they’ve already hashed it out and went to bat processing and analyzing those situations before. This time Dean was angry initially with Cas I think, is more to do with not communicating his (Cas’s) uneasiness or apprehension, I guess? Yes, everyone knew Jack is without his soul but they are in the midst of how to go forward with Jack with no soul and processing what that means, whether it was going to be like Sam or not, since Jack is very powerful like Donatello said. Unless something happens, what can they do? So business as usual since at that point Jack hasn’t shown or give any weird vibes or behaviors yet. (He has and the audiences know but they don't know). Then Jack killed Felix, and Cas was weirded by it. Which, flags should be raised but didn’t. So everyone can be vigilant, but Cas didn’t, he left instead. From Absence: Dean: If you have something to tell us, now's the time. .... Dean: ...but you just wanted to wait until we were already freaked out. And then everything snowballed and went pear-shaped. As usual, Dean felt guilty that he cannot save Mary. And when he felt this way, he gets angrier and angrier and starts pushing those he loves/his family away, by pushing everyone’s buttons. Just ask Sam. But in this case, unfortunately, it is Cas. We saw how Dean pushed Bobby away in S5 by saying you are not my father, hurting Bobby's feelings in the process. (Sidenote: Sam is untouchable since he is Dean's 'son'. In a family, the child is excusable if the parents are arguing with each other).

Luis Nov

Hasnaa, you left me speachless, you’re 100% right with everything 🙌🏻

Amye Sabin

I liked this episode much better than the first two. Even though I don't like angry Dean and his behavior. But he has a point, Cas tends to mess things up. Leviathan anyone?<p>Rest In Peace, you beautiful queen Rowena. Like son, like mother.</p>

rose mnor

Before this, Dean already knew how Cas felt about his shortcomings, or ‘mistakes’ if you will. He knows Cas feels insecure and vulnerable about those things. How Cas wanting to bring a win to and for Dean, but his efforts went awry and how helpless he felt. How he apologize to Dean for letting Lucifer possessed him and feeling it didn’t work even though Dean disagreed with him. How he felt suicidal after killing many angels after swallowing purgatory souls and consequently letting leviathans out but Dean has already forgiven him and Cas knew that Dean forgave him. Dean is aware of how Cas felt after all that had happened. And he already accepted and come to terms with them or whatever and moved on.

rose mnor

But now? “Why does that something always seem to be you”. These feelings of vulnerability are Cas’s buttons and Dean knows. It is knowing these exact buttons to push in order to hurt the most. To Dean, Cas’s not voicing out his feelings of apprehension to others is the culprit. It will bring forth those feelings that you have when someone (that you care about), doesn’t tell you things - feelings of anger and hurt. And when Dean is hurt he will hurt back tenfold. Just ask Sam. Our poor Cas.

Ashley

I agree with a few folks in the commens that Dean is not entirely incorrect in what he said to Cas. I mean, I love Cas, but my man isn't exactly known for his stellar decision making skills lol. But Dean's behavior in this episode is one of the main reasons I don't ship Dean and Castiel. From my perspective, Dean is emotionally abusive towards Cas way too often. Anytime something goes wrong or he makes a mistake he treats him pretty horribly. Just saying, if this were real life, I wouldn't want to be in a relationship like their's. Seems unhealthy. Again, this is just my opinion. No disrespect to anyone that does ship them together. Anyway(I really hope I don't make people mad with my viewpoints on Destiel...lol). I'm loving your reactions to season 15 so far Dakara! I've only seen this season once so it's fun to be rewatching it with you. Can't wait to see what you think of the final episode.

rose mnor

Aaaand after a few tries, I think I finally got these tweets that Bobo Berens (writer of the episode) made after the episode aired with regards to the final scene between Dean and Cas, From Bobo Berens tweets: The scene between Cass and Dean changed a lot collaboratively from draft to draft, well into production. It was a lengthy process. But even in editing it shifted— in part because Jensen is able to say so much *without* words. Masterful. And heartbreaking. As originally written, the scene was sadder— but less harsh. Then it got *really* harsh. I felt it was important that Dean admit he knows Mary’s death wasn’t Cass’s fault... there were conversations, it got softer again. But in editing the scene played strongest with fewer words. What @Johnnyfitz006 was able to do— using Jensen’s performance to communicate nuances of anger and regret— was really masterful. My extra words were less impactful than just letting the staging and performance communicate the scene. There are some sublime cuts in that sequence. (Note: @Johnnyfitz006 John Fitzpatrick is the editor on Supernatural)

Gina St Phillips

I feel that in some cases they felt like it was important to tie off loose ends this season. I believe that is what Ketch's death was supposed to do. It was the culmination of his redemption arc but also an end to his character. It's not like they could really have him be part of teanm free will. Like Crowley, as much as we loved him, some of the things he did to them were inexcusable. Dying to protect them was the best end Ketch could get.

DakaraJayne

Aww bless his heart. Everything really does feel heavier in this last season and I couldn’t even imagine how it feels for the cast and crew on the show! Thanks for the info Rose. Hope you enjoy the reaction and the final stretch of supernatural 💜

DakaraJayne

She really would have had her work cut out for her!! 😂💜

Chrissy

Fun fact, when Rowena tells Sam “that’s my boy” that wasnt in the script, Ruthie added it in.
