Rating - 8.5/10 - There are parts I loved & parts I wasn't so fond of in this episode. The soul destroying scene of Dean telling Sam & Jack that Cas was no longer with us...I cant even! It hurt so much. Seeing Lucifer again gave me major eyeroll & the way he was introduced made me rage so hard! Michael back & 'helping' was interesting & obviously the twist had me surprised too...They outsmarted God, never thought i'd be glad to see Chuck be defeated, yet here we are... Free will is now stronger than ever! Just pains my heart that the Team isn't complete. Jack has taken on the role of the almighty & he looks extremely mature & ready for this change in his life. The scene that will forever stick out for me was the distraction fight scene where Chuck was beating our boys & they held each other up & continued to fight! OUCH MY HEART.

For the first time ever, First! Yey! Now on it.

Just woke up to this. As as soon as I prepare for work, I'll watch, thanks Dakara

William Lawrence

Better ending for the show... Chuck kills them when he was beating them up, done.

Helen Wood

This was the perfect ending. For me, it is the finale. I know you've seen the horror that is Episode 20, with Dean's surrender and Sam's agreement to it. I reject that completely and rewrote it as a nightmare Sam has about betraying Dean. Now that you have seen it all, if you want to read some very long stories, my series, The Winchester Pact, starts in the 12 season and weaves between the episodes until the 9th story, "Promotion to Glory" offers an alternative to the finale. Currently working on the 10th story, "Far Too Young and Clever". If you're interested, you can find the whole series at https://archiveofourown.org/series/2007640 You'll be pleased to know that Cas is out of the Empty in my stories and resurrections so far include real Charlie, Crowley and Meg.

Amye Sabin

Um, you consider it a Horror, but not everyone does. So you might want to say something like, “you’ve seen what I consider a total horror. Make it abt your feelings, not assuming that the ending does in fact, represent everyone.

It’s too bad you’re so vehemently opposed to the ending, rather than open minded. I would’ve liked to read your stories, but I won’t read any where someone doesn’t see it in totality to the entire series.

Amye Sabin

So now we know when Chuck was done groveling, he jumped over to France, became a mercenary, went to LA for a job by another Archangel Michael, and murdered Detective Dan.

Brenda Lewis

Wow, that's the first time I've seen that one again since the show ended. A great episode. I know a lot of people thought that should have been the ending, but I really liked the finale. Jack said he would be hands off and not put himself in the story. I didn't realize what that meant at the time.

Azraelov

my only real gripe with this episode, is how the hell was Lucifer powerful enough to kill the new death? If Chuck had like powered him up after bringing him back from the empty, then surely that would have meant he would also have been too powerful for Michael to kill him? Im I making any sense here? :/

Johann Ludwig

That poor cameraman/woman though, there is nobody left on the planet except for Jack, Dean, Sam and him/her. But still, they just ignore him/her…so rude…

Helen Wood

I tend to assume that most people understand that what I say is my opinion. I beg you not to read my stories. I actually placed a warning before "Promotion to Glory" began that said that those who loved the finale should not read it, because they will hate it. Obviously, if Dean's suicide is your ideal ending, you will not want to read stories in which he lives to enjoy the freedom he fought for. Similarly, if you loved Sam ending up in a miserable, lonely existence in which he has lost all his friends and has a son whose blurry mother doesn't even merit a photograph, you will hate my story, where he gets to be with Eileen and have kids who love him. Although anyone else is welcome to read my stories, if they want to, I was not posting the link to gain countless new readers, but to offer the stories to Dakara, if she wants to read them. No pressure on her and I certainly don't want to attract readers who found Dean's suicide delightful, because they are going to hate every second of all my stories, because their view of Dean is opposite to mine. My Dean never chickened out in his life. For the record, I have reason to hate the finale. It plunged me into suicidal despair when it was first shown and I have only just managed to pull myself out of it. Supernatural saved my life in 2019, when my brother died and I wanted to. It's a powerful message, "Always Keep Fighting". Then the finale gave a new message, "Give up and die! Nothing is worth the effort." Chuck got his preferred ending, Sam letting Dean die when he had every chance to save him. I almost did give up. On Christmas Day last year, I was crushed by the weight of the finale and all the guilt about my brother's death that it had brought back and I almost ended it, but I didn't and now I am out of that terrible mess I was in, but I have a right not to love the episode that told me to give up.

Ed Green

Personally I love the finale, but each to their own. I also believe that the intended message of episode 20 is to keep fighting forever. I also think that the episode did not tell you to give up, and that Dean did not commit suicide. I sympathise with your personal struggles, but I know a suicide victim and I find it offensive to suggest that being killed in action equals suicide (also, please don't refer to suicide as 'chickening out'; it's caused by mental illness). If you think that Sam could have saved him, that's because the writers didn't make it clear enough that it was not possible. There is an enormous difference between actual suicide and sensing that you have been dealt a mortal injury. It's also your take that Sam's existence was miserable and lonely - the episode doesn't provide evidence of that. Him being alone is because it was filmed during COVID; the lack of a photo is bad writing. It's hard to take something as your opinion when you keep making subjective statements about episode content as if they were facts. As someone who loves, cherishes and is inspired by the finale as an example of carrying on forever and building your best world possible, I'd appreciate it if you could make your extremely negative opinion of it explicitly an opinion rather than the recap it comes across as. Please take care of yourself. I'm still interested in your stories, personally.

Hasnaa

Dean not asking jack to bring cas back is so weird to me especially after he asked chuck, i think the writers should've made him ask & have jack say something like "already on it" or something, also lucifer said he brought this reaper with him from the empty so all the reapers were indeed gone, i too wish we at least had a phone call or a confirmation that our beloved characters like jody, eileen & donna, etc.. are back & safe ( we didn't need the actors for that), they could've just had a scene of sam hanging up the phone then telling dean that they're back & yeah what about au hunters like au bobby & au charlie & stevie 🤷🏻‍♀️ who knows if they're back, i still don't understand why jack couldn't stay with his parents? Running on empty is definitely a weird choice for the heros winning & being happy, that fake phone call was rude & cruel both to dean & to us, they definitely didn't have any problem paying mark p to quarantine for 2 weeks just to have him in one useless scene, it's not about convenience & covid, it's about priorities & care, the producers definitely love lucifer but don't give a shit about cas or all the other characters we love, all that being said about this episode, i still wish they ended it here coz next episode is ten times worse imo

Chrissy

Covid has a lot to answer for these last two episodes. Some things are just off, no hugs when Jack leaves, bare mention of Cas which made zero sense as Dean would have fought to get Cas out. I mean, Dean wouldn’t leave Purgatory twice without Cas. BUT I bawled at Jack becoming God, ever since season 14 finale, I’d hoped in some way he would become God and he did, my heart! I like when it showed you how Jack was absorbing all the power to become stronger and there’s an air of maturity about him now……but with that sweet Jack part still….Sam says “are you…….him?” And Jack replies….”I’m me”

Chrissy

Edited to say, I hated seeing Lucifer and that he pretended to be Cas……ugh. But remember from past seasons, Lucifer, to gain your trust, pretends to be who you love the most, as in a partner. Sarah was used for Nick, Jessica was used for Sam……..Cas was used for Dean ❤️ I love Dean, I’ve loved him and this show since I sat down to watch it in 2005. When I saw the series finale, I struggled because of how it ended. But under no circumstances did Dean commit suicide. In a world where Chuck is not part of the story anymore, anything could happen and anything did happen. What happened to Dean was the most basic hunt…..that went wrong. At first, I hated it, trust me, part of me still does. Do I think Dean should have had a chance at a life? Absolutely. Sam not trying to save Dean was him following Deans wishes, he was done. I too suffer from extreme depression and I’m still down about this finale BUT everything and every actor has moved onto different projects and this finale won’t change, ever. Sometimes I wish I hadn’t read what the original ending before Covid had been because THAT was perfect, in my opinion

Ed Green

My personal interpretation is that Jack brought everyone from the alternate world back to live in ours because he doesn't share Billie's prejudice against world-jumping; but that he didn't bring Cas back because it would have been a resurrection and now that he's the new God he believes in the natural order of things: resurrection would violate that in a way that bringing back the Apocalypse World people who never died would not.

Christopher simeon

I always headcanon this episode as chuck's retirement plan. He always seemed to enjoy playing chuck. Now he is him permanently. He needed a replacement so he created a story starting from season 12 after taking a vacation with amara to create jack. Then he gave him experiences and the best teachers. That ending speech in season 5 seems to me like a future speech from chuck because he knows they will beat him

Chrissy

I think you were absolutely right Dakara, that when Jack gained those powers, it strengthened his mind “with great power, comes greatly responsibly” also the title “inherit the earth” in the Bible (not that I’m a reader of it) it says “and the meek shall inherit the earth” meek = Jack. The “goodbye” instead of “Hello” wrecked me. I like that they let Chuck live, purely for the fact that he’s now become what he became to hate, human. He’ll die alone and no one will remember or know him. As Cas said last episode that Dean basically is a good man that only ever did everything he did because of love. In not killing Chuck, Dean was living up to what Cas had said, that he’s not like that, he’s not a killer, that he’s better than that. The montage at the end, man, all that happened and it was amazing. And I don’t know if anyone else thought this, but chucks defeat was at that location, a small beach……remember Dean would finally get to be on the beach when all this ended. Kind of poetic. Your su

Chrissy

Your sum up at the end Dakara, absolutely agree.

Chrissy

“With great power comes great responsibility” ugh, autocorrect

Sumana Soh

I thought that surely Michael would helped them after what he found out after 15x08 but nope. And I think the scene with Chuck dusting the dog was too petty, we know he is the villian but lets just make the viewers hate him more. I also feel for Chuck in the end. Not sure it is because the actor performance or I wanted him to win in a way because that is how I always pictured it with my own beliefs. 😂

Kenny Kovalski

I really wish they hadn't bothered with Lucifer. Just like with 15x17, I feel like this easily could have been two episodes.

Dexter

The boys are suppose to be "alone" but at 46 seconds...as Dean is pulling up in his car...you can see a car drive by in the background😁😁😁

Dexter

Another thing...when the three are standing in the intersection...the bike shop in the background is real...it's located in BC. Just Google it!!!

Toasted Toad

Cas is out of the Empty in canon too. Nor did Dean "commit suicide", as per other comments above. Nor does Sam lead a "miserable, lonely life". We see he has a wife and son, who he clearly adores, and there is absolutely no reason to believe Sam is not capable of making any more friends for the rest of his life in addition to anyone who managed to survive.

Toasted Toad

I've found it interesting that I don't see many complaints that God is now a toddler, according to the camp that kept on saying Jack was "a baby".

AdoptDontShopPets

Why are you providing spoilers for another show? Delete

AdoptDontShopPets

Agree. The mythology made it seem like the scythe was the only thing that could kill death, but I guess not.

AdoptDontShopPets

I think he did resurrect Cas back from The Empty, but asked him to remake a better heaven, rather than putting him on earth. An assumption, of course given the tiny reference made in ep 20

AdoptDontShopPets

I just hadn’t watched this reaction yet. Baby, baby, baby. Happy now, Toasted?

AdoptDontShopPets

I am sorry people felt the need to attack you. You are entitled to your perspectives and feelings. I am not going to reply to each of their comments because it would make me angry and frustrated to read them again.

Hasnaa

I kinda said in my comment that i still don't get why he can't be with his parents, i think it's ridiculous that God is a three year old but at least if he had the winchesters guidance it would've been less ridiculous, i may need a list of allowed & not allowed topics to complain about from you 😂

Hasnaa

I am sorry people are being mean to you, i don't understand the need to attack others

Art_by_Akane

Ok, so first thing - this episode was make during pandemic, so they coudn't bring all the cast members to show on screen. You know, they would have to go to Canada and it was a big problem at the time. You were right that phone call from Jody or Donna would be great, but I guess they had some reasons to not to do it. Second thing - you propably notice the distance between some actors (at the bunker for example). Again - Covid sukcs. The plan to defeat Chuck - I thought it was amazing. At first (in the beggining of creation) - God made humans at his resembles. And what guys did I interprated as "Now we, humans, made God at our resembles" - more than satisfying (for me). Fact that Dean and Sam didn't think about a reaper becoming a new Death - I think they were still at schock, despair and coudnt't think clearly to connect the dots. And one last thing, but REALLY important. Remember that with free will, guys now have NO PLOT ARMOR. So keep that in mind while reacting to the last episode (yeah, I know you have watched it already, so maybe I shouldn't mention it at all), but this is sth I figured out way to late, when I was watching the final episode of "Supernatural". And when you realize that the last episodes was making during pandemic - well, I guess that they made as much as they could. I'm sure that without COVID, they could do much, much more. And I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Watching your reactions was always a pleasure and I'm proud of be one of your Patreons. Sending you much love - for you and your whole family. THANK YOU!

Ed Green

I personally don't think that moving someone from one afterlife to another violates the natural order like resurrection does.

Chrissy

The original, written plan for the very last episode was perfect, but Covid messed that up

Chrissy

Why are we attacking? There was no harshness, just various opinions. It’s an open thread for adults to place their views.

Susan Sebert

I loved this episode. It is unfortunate that they were still dealing with covid protocols and to have other characters would have entailed 14 day quarantine for everyone which didn't make sense for what would probably be a scene. I thought they did the best they could under the circumstances. I liked that they didn't kill Chuck in the end. Brought back what Demon Dean told Sam, when he didn't kill Cole, that that was the worst thing he could have done to him after Cole spending his whole life training, just like Chuck planning Sam and Deans lives and their ultimate deaths, which didn't go the way he had planned. Knowing that they beat him was worse than death. Jack is good and we know he will do his best and do what is right. When Jack took the rest of Chuck's power that was great, and what Sam told him about being forgotten. Dean knowing now he is not "daddy's blunt instrument" or being the ultimate killer was finally believed by Dean due to Cas. I heard about some of the negative comments that people were disappointed that characters didn't come back, but that was beyond their control. They couldn't ask actors to comeback for one scene but they would have to quarantine for 2 weeks, plus the cost would not make sense. Sure it would have been nice to see Eileen, Donna, Jody, but it wasn't feasible. Just have to use my imagination. Loved the montage at the end, so many characters to remember, and I loved that they carved the names in the table. Wonder who got that table, what a keepsake. One more, get your tissues.

Josee (Griffe)

This is an interesting take on the story. It has the distinctive advantage of making God in season 14 and 15 a role played by Chuck, an exageration of his true self. So I don't have to mourn the Chuck of the begining of the serie that I truly loved. Thank you for this! (That makes Chuck/God a so-so writer thru and thu, but I can live with that!!😛)

Josee (Griffe)

The first time I watched this episode, I was very self-aware of the stuff I didn't like in the last season, because my husband decided to watch the last 5 episodes with me, him who never had any interest in this story before. (I'm very protective of Supernatural and I don't react well when people that stopped following the show after 5 seasons - or never reawlly watch it - criticize it. Even if they have the same hang-ups with the series as me!). So I had a lot of trouble just envoying the show. Rewatching Inherit the Earth it with you, I think it is a good send-off for the last arc of the show. I'm not really satisfied (like people said here : a phone call to Eileen, Jody or Donna, and a mention of Castiel to Jack would have make a lot more sense with the entire premice of "found family" that is such an intricate part of this show), but it is still a nice soft ending to this part of the story.

Ed Green

'Went to France and then to LA' would be sufficient to make the reference. Everything else is a spoiler and your last bit is an enormously egregious one.

Amye Sabin

The main thing don't like about this episode is that they come to the realization that Jack was sucking up power, with hardly no expotition. Just all of a sudden they "knew" what was happening. Also, while I don't like that Jack is the new God because 1) he's too inexperienced; 2) he's Dabb's nougat baby at the expense of Sam & Dean; there really isn't anyone else. I just wish he had more time to develop and learn.

Ashley

I was a tad bit over critical of this epsiode when I watched it initially(this is actually the first time I've watch it again since my initial watch lol). All in all I think it was fine. There were things I didn't like and things I did like. Loved the little montage toward the end with all the characters. I'm just sad we won't get to hear Dakara tell Lucifer to fuck off anymore lmao. Not gonna lie, seeing her utter disgust at his reappearance was funny as shit 😂

ElysiaFields19

Maybe I'm too simple minded. I just accepted that Jack now had a full understanding of what he has become, a total connection to everything in the universe. Clearly, he spoke to Dean and Sam with a new awareness and peace as he tried to explain himself and his purpose. The Jack we knew may have been a child but now he is the vessel encasing and the power of God. He not only recognized Chuck's arrogant mistake but immediately understood he should never be hands on. That part is understandable but personally, very painful to me. The whole Cas situation is confusing. I expected more to be said about him, was stunned Dean didn't mention him to Jack in hopes of getting the ange back. In case there are people watching this for the first time I will save the rest for the final episode. I loved your observation of how Dean would know how Michael would act because they were both the obedient sons of a demanding father. Good catch. I think the line that made my heart sing and ache was Dean's response to Chuck about being the world's greatest killer; "that's not who I am"; knowing he was echoing Castiel's words and BELIEVING them, wearing those words like a badge of honor, as well as throwing Cas in Chuck's face, that was awesome. (Yes, I cried, okay?!) This is the third time I've watched this episode and as with every rewatch of the series I saw and heard things I had missed and enjoyed it with a slightly less jaded eye than before. * I was absolutely frickin' thrilled to hear you say you plan to react to fan edits and con videos!!!!!

Chrissy

It’s nice to finally see someone who gets it about Jack maturing with the powers he took on as God.
