Gosh. I'm caught in two minds, of wanting to immediately open this, or save it up for much later, because this will mark the real end to your journey. It makes me sad.Ah well, like a writer once said, "No doubt, endings are hard, but then again nothing ever really ends, does it?" Godspeed, Dakara you legend.

Helen Wood

I was just thinking the same thing.

Toasted Toad

No time to watch right now, and then it's Strictly this evening! Ah well, something to look forward to watching later! I'll compromise by watching the gag reel.

AussieOfSteel

I can agree maybe S15 as a whole wasn't my favourite, but I can happily watch it all again. I was also on the camp of liking the finale. Maybe the only ep I have mixed feelings on was ep 10 The Heroes' Journey, it was a little too slapsticky. I also wanted to mention that for me, the second biggest theme on the show behind Family Don't End in Blood is the concept of free will vs destiny. Destiny in the show is usually portrayed as a negative like with the brothers being Michael and Lucifer's vessels, but I feel like with Jack it was turned on its head. From the moment he was conceived, Jack had a destiny to change the world. Kelly knew it, Cas knew it, and then Sam and Dean knew it. He brought peace and changed the world like Kelly said he would back in Season 12. Overall I'm happy and satisfied with the final season and the finale, though definitely sad your SPN journey has reached the finish line. Oh well, Carry On Dakara!

Michele

I'm with you on most of your opinions. I agree about Jack too. He seemed more mature and confident when he came back from the Empty. People continue to see Jack as a child. I never did. He's not like other humans. He was born knowing so much more than even adults. He was just inexperienced. He wasn't emotionally a child. He just didn't have experience. So, for people to continue to see him as a child doesnt make sense to me. The hunters funeral - the Winchesters have Never shared their hunters funeral for family members with outsiders. They don't even like to tell others about a death. So that made sense to me. I didn't even think about it. But, I do think that there would have been a wake for Dean. I don't think Sam would have been able to make himself go to it, but I'm sure their hunter friends would have had one for him. That's usual. It didn't seem common that peopel would be there for the "burial". Seems like the wake is what happens with a crowd. Sam's son Dean maybe took after John and Dean more, in the looks department. It's not as if Sam and Dean looked like each other, or like John. So I didn't even think twice about that. The blurry wife could be Eilene. Or could be Amelia. I think they're leaving it up for interpretation. But, Jared has apparently said that it wasn't Eilene, and that Dean wouldn't have wanted Sam to be with Eilene. Which makes NO sense to me. Of course Dean would want Sam to be with Eilene. Dean definitely liked their relationship. He liked Eilene. That's the sort of statement that gets people pissed at Dean. Sometimes Jared says things that just have me scratching my head. What you said about Lucifer is basically how I feel about season 15 and what we found out about Chuck and what he's been doing - and what he did in this season. I was very much like Dean. I felt like everything they had done their whole lives was just wiped clear and their achievments and sacrifices and hard work was all for nothing. It was meaningless because it was all under Chuck's ultimate control. One of the things I loved about the show and our boys was how they were able to fight against Destiny and win. I felt like that was stolen from me. The one episode about their "luck" was it in a nutshell, and I hated it.

Ed Green

If I had to rank the seasons I would say 5, 4, 11, 8, 3, 13, 10, 1, 14, 2, 15, 7, 12, 6 and 9.

Brenda Lewis

I have always thought of this show as two series. Series 1 is Sn1 - 5. Series 2 being Sn6 - 15. It is pretty hard to watch either finale. But I did like the symmetry of a brother dying in each one. I have said before why I liked the ending, but I understand how some fans didn't. I got everything I wanted and others were left so unhappy. There's so much passion and history with this show, you certainly aren't going to please everyone. I agree with your thoughts on Cas and Dean. Very much over time Cas fell in love with Dean. For me gender was incidental with them. Castiel came to know and love the soul and then the man that was Dean. Dean saw him as another brother, and that's is Dean highest affection - family. I think a lot of what people were missing as far as the other characters getting their last bow was about time money and of course the pandemic. Since it had to be pared down we got just the boys. I think too many people showing up at the end would have been too busy. But I agree if you were going to bring someone back "Jenny"(?) from Sn 1 was a bit of a stretch. I also agree about Dean asking Jack to bring back Cas. He would absolutely would have. And I don't care what even Jared says, Eileen was the wife on the porch. That's my happy head cannon and I won't be talked out of it, even by a star of the show lol!. This wasn't their best season for sure, but it was quite satisfying and a good place to end. I wondered about Sam not telling anyone of their closest allies onscreen about Dean, but it was sadder with Sam all alone. I also wasn't happy about them exploring the "plot armor" and needing to get their mojo back. Doesn't feel like free will to me. And it doesn't mesh with many events that have happened over the last 15 yrs. But that's my nitpicking. I have been going back through Sn8 (a personal favorite of mine) with you. I end with saying to you Dakara, thanks for taking me on this ride with you. I hope you post more related content because there is so much.

Brenda Lewis

I wish I could rank them, but I always get stuck toward the middle. I know my favorite and least favorite seasons, but toward the middle is tricky

Helen Wood

I was going to watch this, but a glance at the comments was enough to spark all the feelings of the finale again and I can't fall into that mess again. I'll have to leave it a while. Dean's suicide almost led to mine. Just a glimpse of the discussions above makes me feel it all again. Please don't think it's because I think you will be saying anything I hate or anything, I still can't look at screenshots of the finale. It's weird. I have CPTSD from six years of bullying at school but I would rather relive a week of that than ever see the damn finale again. Somehow, the trauma it induced is deeper and more destructive.

Brenda Lewis

Same here about Lucifer. The character had run it's course, but it's like they never really wanted to let him go. I was completely over Lucifer and Nick before Mary died.

Michele

A couple of the showrunners have said things about how Mark P brought a lot to the scenes he was in and made them better. That J2M did a better job when he was working with them in a scene. That Mark P brought maturity or some such. I actually felt a bit offended by their comments, on J2M's behalf. And there definitely was a bit of a metaphorical love affair by at least one of the showrunners with the character - and maybe the actor. They just refused to let him go. It got to be pitiful, IMO.

Michele

I seems that you and I often see things the same way.

Ed Green

I don't think the idea of beating destiny was taken away. Chuck is a guy who could have intervened to stop them and chose not to. That doesn't make their victories not theirs, or their choices. All it means is he was setting up the dominoes that they chose to knock down.

Purple Nurple

Take that back about Amelia! lol. That would make the ending worse! I choose to think it's Eileen, or if not some person we've never met.

Ashley

I agree with a lot of the points you made about the final season and finale. One of the only things I had a different opinion about was the hunter's funeral. It really didn't bother me that it was only Sam there when I watched it. I just assumed it was something he wanted to get done as quickly as possible and hunter's funerals have always seemed a little more personal to me. Would have been cool to see a gathering of their other friends afterwards to celebrate Dean's life though. In terms of an alternate ending, I have mixed feelings about it. I don't like the thought of the writers feeling like they have to alter their original vision/ending because some people were unsatisfied with it(and if the ending changed completely it would feel a bit forced/fan servicy to me). On the other hand, I suppose if everyone involved(writers, actors, producers, studio etc.)are game then I really don't have any objections to it. And if it gives those that were unhappy with the ending some peace, then who am I to say that's not a good thing. I can just choose not to watch if it's something I'm not interested in.

Brenda Lewis

Yes I don't think Dean committed suicide either. I think he knew if they tried to call Jack he wouldn't have come because he said he was not going to put himself in the story.

Ed Green

I don't consider Dean's death to be a suicide. In my opinion, he believes he's about to die so he asks his brother not to leave him alone. It's an upsetting topic, and it upsets me to see the two equated, so I'd really appreciate it if you could please say when discussing it that you associate his actions with it. I hope I've phrased this in an acceptable enough way, because I don't want to offend or upset anyone, and this will be the last time I bring it up here. I hope you continue to look after yourself.

Shruti M

Excellent discussion, Dakara! Always love your insight. Not trying to sway your mind about the finale, but I found this buzzfeed article to be very profound: https://www.buzzfeed.com/deirdre-t/supernaturalas-legacy-the-trauma-of-silence-1b17yhc5ye?utm_source=dynamic&utm_campaign=bfsharetwitter Another note about the finale: Sam had to live without Dean for ~40 years, so another casualty of the finale Thanks for being such a delightful reactor! Going to miss your supernatural reactions

Ashley

I personally didn't interpret what happened to Dean as being the same as committing suicide. I think he knew he was dying and was at peace with that. He wanted reassurance in his last moments from his little brother that he would be okay without him. If Sam wouldn't have told him it was okay for him to go, you bet your ass that Dean would be telling Sam to find a way for him to cheat death again lol(calling Jack perhaps, don't know if that was possible with him being hands off in terms of humanity). I think Dean being at peace with his own death and realizing that Sam would be okay without him was actually really healthy growth for his character. While I was extremely sad that Dean didn't get to experience having a family etc., I thought the way they conveyed his death was actually kind of beautiful. And I think it was also symbolic of the title of the epsiode "Carry On". Sam went on to live a happy life while also mourning/missing his brother along the way. It's so freaking hard losing those we love in life, but we have to carry on without them and there are some days where that is harder than others. It just felt very relatable to me in that regard. That's just my interpretation though. If you interpreted it as Dean committing suicide/giving up, and you have personal experience with that topic, I can see how it would be difficult to rewatch the finale. I've never personally experienced someone I'm close to committing suicide so I might not have the same life experience that you do if that is a reality for you. I hope you're taking care of yourself and your mental health. And I hope you are still able to get some enjoyment out of this show despite the sadness the finale made you experience. Please don't take anything I've said as me belittling your experience. I'm just sharing this because the finale actually gave me a bit of hope and happiness in the end despite how sad it was. Dean and Sam were reunited in the heaven that Dean deserved and that put a smile on my face after the tears.

Stacey

Had so much fun rewatching this show along with you I cant believe we are at the end of the road, I like most have mixed opinions on the finale but overall I didnt completely hate it and Supernatural will still remain one of my all time favourite shows

Susan Sebert

I agree with most of your assessments. Dean's funeral I was ok with no one else being there. John's, Mary's, Bobbie's, Charlie's, Kevin's were all very private with just the boys. I am sure if the pandemic hadn't been around still and no quarantine had been necessary when going into Vancouver, we probably would have seen a few more characters. Maybe those other actors were working on other projects and couldn't stop for 2 weeks to just sit in quarantine. I kind of liked that the episode just mainly focused on the 2 boys. I agree with you about Cas and Dean. Dean felt the loss of Cas like he would have felt the loss of Sam. Cas even said that he knows it is something that he can never have but that was ok, just saying it was enough for him. Maybe it could have been different if he had taken a female vessel, like he had in the one episode with Isham and Lily Sunder, but then it wouldn't have been Misha, could have been an interesting twist for him to come back into a woman's body, once. Heard Jensen say that if Dean had been the one that lived, that like you said, he would have been a wreck, alone in a bar somewhere. Will still look forward to any of your reactions to convention edits or other BTS things. You should search one Jensen story "Kirby (drunk girl story) if you haven't seen it already, from the Vegas Con 2020, pretty funny.

Amye Sabin

I don't think we needed to know what was going on in Hell. The show is about THE BOYS, not Rowena & Hell or Jack & Heaven. I do agree that the fact that they didn't have Cas back was a heartbreak, but Misha wanted to go out that way, sacrificing himself for Dean. So maybe it was a combination of his decision, along with the writers to not bring Cas back personally in the Finale. And having him meet Dean in Heaven might take away from that sacrifice. You know my feelings about Jack, for the most part, and I would've been OFFENDED to have him come back when it should be about THE BOYS. It's well known that Andrew Dabb did not like Jensen and all the accolades he got, (watch panels, they never address each other, sit by each other, or rarely acknowledge each other) and fawned all over *his creation* Jack, that contributes to my dislike of the cooing over this character.

Rather than have Jody, Donna, Garth, etc back, I would've preferred the original ending with Ellen, Jo, Ash, Charlie, etc - those they lost, meeting Dean in Heaven.

While I do agree that having God as the final big bad, was a good idea, the fact that TPTB took the character of Chuck, an adorable quirky character completely changed him on his head, didn't make sense. It was a complete change of persona. The same with Amara, she was this angry, dark entity, and all of a sudden she's this sweet manipulated celestial. The characterizations this season really bothered me. From Chuck & Amara to Dean to Lucifer. I liked Billie as a character, but I never trusted her - ever. One, she always said she wanted the boys, Dean in particular, dead. Two, aft Ruby it's hard to trust anyone on this show not named, Sam Dean Jody Donna Garth Bobby or Charlie.

S15 is one of my least two favorites, along with S7, but while S7 has some really strong episodes, to me, S15 has only a handful. And I did like the Finale, but I thought since the original pre-COVID ending wasn't possible, having Dean just drive around in Heaven negated his death - to me. You kill off this fantastic character, making us feel, but then he's back on the screen 10 min later. I'd like to see more of Sam's struggles without Dean, or what he was doing, or who he married, what happened with the Bunker, did Dean II hunt? They could've had Dean & Bobby meet Sam at the end, then mention Jack & Cas's fixing Heaven. Think about all the way in S2, all their Hunter's funerals have been private. They never even told Bobby's network (at first) about his death. I remember Sam saying something like "shouldn't we let Bobby's people know?" I also didn't like how Sam didn't take the few minutes to tell Dean how much he meant to him How everything Dean has ever done, has been to protect & raise Sam. It felt like blowing smoke up Sam's ass, to the detriment of Dean's self-esteem (again). Don't get me wrong, I loved that scene and they acted the hell out of it, but why can't anyone -not named Cas - ever give Dean his due?

I look forward to seeing your reaction to the many, many, many Cons. I know there are a lot I still haven't seen.

Amye Sabin

I agree Sharon. I never liked Amelia. She immediately demanded that Sam take the dog he hit, without knowing his circumstances or background. No reputable vet would do that. She was also very condenscending to him throughout. I prefer to believe that the blurry wife is Eileen. I think Dean II looks like her.

Michele, I always thought Dean looked more like Mary, with the squarer jaw and the lighter hair.

Amye Sabin

Can you tell me why you don't like S9? I personally like it a lot. In fact 8-11 are very hard to separate in my mind, they're so good. Is it because of the conflict between the boys? While painful, I find it adds some maturity (as far as the show goes) to the story. That the show isn't stuck back doing the same old thing again & again.

bfnelson

I think a much better ending for Dean would’ve been Amy’s son coming back to kill him. I was not really satisfied with how it went down. They could’ve done better than that.

DakaraJayne

Thanks so much Shruti for leaving a lovely comment here and for watching my supernatural videos, really means a lot. It’s going to be strange not reacting to new episodes of this awesome show and I just hope that new shows capture my heart as much as this one has.
