Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reaction 1X12 Finale-1.mp4

Whilst S1 was enjoyable , S2 will blow you away . The rest of the seasons are 22 episodes . As always loved your reactions ,especially the air drumming with the theme music . I look forward to the rest of journey through the Buffyvers .

The library scene is a turning point for this show and is still getting me emotional. It's a superhero not only having doubts in their mission but actively expressing their fear and anger over the injustice. She refuses to lay her life over a concept, some idea written by generations before who are simply sentencing her to death just for who she is. Master not draining Buffy was actually written not just to get her saved by CPR. It's on purpose so he can toss her like she's of no importance. He used her and now he doesn't even care to finish her off. He literally takes what he needs and lets her fall without a second glance. The slightly ridiculous gothic ambience aside, the way he moves around her, removes her jacket, grabs her from behind reads very sexual predator like to me. Just an old man using a young girl. And this brings me to your question (without any spoilers) - yes, the Slayer is always female. The whole idea behind the film was to have the stupid blond girl that gets killed in the first 10 minutes of horror films turn out to be a superhero. (The film is not canon per se and there were so many changes that the final product is not what Whedon envisioned but it's cheesy fun to watch if you ever feel like it. It's not obligatory tho to watch the show. It doesn't connect beyond a couple references in the early episodes.) I could talk for hours about this episode and late 90s feminism but I'll spare you my ramblings lol Off to S2 yay!

DB

BTW what's happening with your YT channel? Are they being difficult with copyrights? (I'm sorry, I haven't been following the story!)

Christopher simeon

Experiencing death and your own morality is sort of the theme of this finale. I saw willow experience as similar to when you have tragic deaths in highschool and people you know personally and see everyday are involved. Buffy in return has to face her own morality. She always had vague thoughts on the slayers not living long but always put that in the back of her mind. But now faced with the weight of that prophecy she tries to run from it.

Michele

I guess my waking up in the middle of the night isn't such a bad thing. It's taking me a while to dredge up my original thoughts from when I watched this show the first time. It's been a while! Season 1 aired in 1997 and my brain is old now. Looking at it now though, it's overall pretty decent. I do think that we didn't get enough shown to us for the progression of The Master's plan. It seemed to be mostly MOTW - which I like. I actually do like MOTW's. The Angel reveal did surprise me. I was disappointed, actually. Don't worry about your reactions. You know that all I care about is you being Real.

Michele

YT is still being very difficult. We sometimes hear about it in Dakara's Discord channel. I think the latest is all the claims on the Lucifer reactions.

Bart Aansorgh

Its been ages since i ve seen that episode, but man its such a freaking good one. The cahracters are amazing and the acting was great. I like buffy's sarcasm and whit. Cordelia is suprisingly mellow this episodes and copntinues to show a bit more of a different side of her, much like the invisible girl episode. The scene where buffy finds out does tug at your heartstrings. This series was miles ahead of its time. It does soo many thigns, tv shows now aspire to do, and make huge deals of that they are doing it. But Buffy just did that without drawing special attention to it. I really like that. Loved your reaction and cant wait for the rest. I do think most of the budget for this season went to this episode xD. This one and the one where buffy finds out angel is a vampire (7 i think). are my favourite episodes of the season probably. Loved it, can't wait for season 2.

Bart Aansorgh

Also. the theme song stays the same during the entire series. Also part 2. I don't know if this is in the videos you have. But on my dvd's theres a little fun thing at the end of the credits after the theme song, when the episode ends. If you've never watched the entire credits you should :).

Merkavar

my guess is the master after 30 years or what ever just wanted to get out into some fresh air. so didnt want to waste time killing someone who he thought was already dead.

Merkavar

i felt willow's reaction was a little odd. like every episode it seems some kid or teacher is killed and they find the bodies. But suddenly these ones hit her hard? just because they were in the AV room instead of the canteen or music rooms?

Nica Marie

Let me clarify what Bart was talking about with the "fun little thing at the end of the credits". I believe he means the Mutant Enemy logo. Which gives us the iconic "grr argh" so beloved by the fanbas. The reason to pay attention to the logo is that sometimes it changes. So watching for it every episode is necessary to find the variants. And once you embrace the grr argh you can better appreciate all the merch where it is featured.

Gina St Phillips

I loved this episode, but the love triangle bothered me. We are becoming more aware of the dynamics between men and women and what healthy looks like. The nice guy getting passive aggressive, (or aggressive aggressive), because he didn't like the "no" he got, and blaming it on the woman for preferring a more dangerous man is no longer an acceptable trope. She doesn't feel that way about you. End of story. You can be disappointed, you can be sad, but you don't have a right to be an asshole. At lease Willow shows emotional maturity, calmly letting Xander know she feels sad for his disappointment but is unwilling to let herself be hurt by being his second choice.

Gabe Morales

You are spot on about Xander and it’s one of the few things about this show that hasn’t aged well. As time went on, Xander’s later behavior would continue to bother me. I was always told I was hyper critical of Xander and that he should get a pass. I always responded, if I acted that way there would be no shortage of people telling me to grow up.

Season 1 was good for establishing the characters, mythology, and overall vibe of the show, but it doesn't hold a candle to season 2. Really looking forward to your reactions. It's crazy to see the old effects. The emotional scene in the library is a tiny tease of some of the amazing acting further down the road.

Jon Freezin-Rain

Echoing your comments. Since this was a 1 season fill in show for us in the broadcast season this was a series finale. A complete story with a beginning, middle and end. The unavoidable future knowledge i.e. Angel is a vampire cause he gets a spin-off and Buffy can't die cause there is a season 2 (3,4,5,6,7). Buffy spends the season resisting being the slayer till we see her finally accept destiny ("I feel strong") Might want to get the computer chair fitted with seatbelts... Here we go!

Ian

Season 1 done and its been a lot of fun watching along with you dak it's so nice seeing you enjoy it so much I wonder how ending season 1 compares to how you felt about the supernatural season one finale 🤔 looking forward to season two we love willow we really do 💙 so on we go this journey is great cho cho let's go

Alan Pownall

"Giles, I'm 16 years old. I don't wanna die" - what a line, that whole scene demonstrates where the show can go with the depth of the characters. Looking forward to season two.

Michael Abberton

I can remember watching this on broadcast TV back in the day, and it was the prophecy scene that convinced me to stick in for season 2. Especially back then, this was such a change to how most shows, let alone quirky genre stuff (of which there was very little), handled these sort of things.

Joshua Bull

Oh man, I cannot believe it is over already. Seems like only last month that we started this Buffy train and out of nowhere it has come to an end. Really gets you hooked though. How crazy would it be if there was a bunch more stories to tell in the Buffyverse though? If only we didn't have to wait all the way until the release of the next season. :D

DakaraJayne

I cannot wait Jim and I can’t thank you enough for watching along with me :) truly appreciate it. I’m invested now and wanna enjoy the ride with all of you

DakaraJayne

Such a powerful scene. The way buffy seems so lost and helpless in that moment. Mixed with anxiety, rage, fear & disappointment all at once. Tossing her like she’s nothing is even more upsetting, I didn’t see it that way on first watch and now the scene feels heavier, thanks for sharing your thoughts here DB.

DakaraJayne

It’s becoming very difficult. I’m persevering as best I can and powering through but the walls are getting stronger when it comes to YT. Managed to get my lucifer video up today. So let’s hope for a regular schedule again.

DakaraJayne

A lot of heavy factors in this one and I loved exploring the different opinions and actions the characters had on the same issue. I felt Giles’ panic and Buffy’s fear and Willows sadness - was amazing.

DakaraJayne

Hope you’re sleeping okay Michele. 1997, crazy thought - the show holds up so well still though! I agree, the master was sort of teased here and there but not focused upon. I guess this first season was mainly to setup our main group, which it did very well. Glad the angel reveal surprised you for first viewing. It’s a shame I knew about it but like you say, can’t be fake. Still found it super important and a key part of the season as a whole too no discuss it further in a discussion video which I hope to post Tuesday :)

Josee (Griffe)

I enjoyed the show, its humorous and campyness before that, but that is the moment I figured that those characters have depth and this can be (and is) more than a fun and quippy tv show.

Claire Eyles

Not a nurse or doctor, but in terms of drowning if you see video of resucitations being done then yes it is typical for people to start breathing & then suddenly start vomiting or coughing up water after that.
