Hello All!

Big episode! I enjoyed this one a lot. THEY FOUND JENNY'S DISK!! IT HAPPENED. Not how I thought it would but was great to see! The Angel & Buffy moments were heavy & it hurt my heart. Great to see more of Angel's history too. There was so much action at the end of this too! Giles has been taken, Kendra was klilled, willow & Xander are both injured & Cordy ran for her life! YIKES! Spike...what is your plan???? I love this show so much!

Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Well that explains something for me. I was taking a Buffy trivia test 1 time on quotes. The question was about that intro to becoming part 1 who was the speaker? I answered whistler and was counted as incorrect. Now I know why.

You bring up a very interesting topic. If angel is restored can angelus return? Xander again has points. But it comes out in a brutal way. Angelus killed many people in his past and he has killed people they care about now like Ms.Calendar. Ms. Calendar wanted to bring angel back out of guilt but like xander said she is dead now. if lets say giles was killed would she be just as willing. She lost her life to him. People always come at xander for being emotional driven because he likes buffy but isn't buffy being emotional driven by forgetting that angelus did murder lots of people here. It is not angel's fault of course but those people are still dead. Buffy does want Angel back. Is that wrong? Yes if it makes her do things that risks innocent people just to possible get him back. Now willow and xander are hurt and giles is captured. Buffy must decide on whether it is worth it to get angel back. She has to put her feelings aside.

Absolutely love this episode and the next one - it’s just next level, one of the best TV season finales ever. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve watched them, but I can recite every word of dialogue along with the characters :P I even own special edition VHS video releases of Becoming Parts 1/2 and of Surprise and Innocence… of course, I don’t have a working VHS player anymore, but I still have the tapes around somewhere. Fun fact, Season 2 of Buffy won two Primetime Emmys: - Surprise/Innocence - Outstanding Make-up for a Series - Becoming Part 1 - Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Dramatic Underscore) Since you’ve seen 2x22 already, you’ve probably already worked this out, but the guy who approached Angel in the Manhattan flashback is not the same guy who helped him in another episode. The guy in this episode is a demon called Whistler - this is the first time we’ve seen him. I’m assuming the other guy you meant was the one in What’s My Line Part 1/2 who saved Angel from the sunlight and handed him over to Spike. That guy is called Willy - he’s a human who runs a demon-friendly bar in Sunnydale.

Great episode, it really builds a lot of suspense. The thing with the angel dying/recovering soul is how you view im. Is it Angel vs Angellus ( with sou/without soul). The thing that isn't really clear is how the curse works either. Whether his soul would go away again if he achieves a moment of happiness, or whether that is something that the roma put in themselves as a condition. As much as I love this episode I dont feel theres super much to unpack fromit. It's solid storytelling, and a great setup for the finale. Also, I love that you got a black cat and named it salem. Does he/she order an extra large anchovies pizza with xtra anchovies, hold the sauce, hold the cheese, hold the crust? :P (if that reference is where the name came from xD)

"And you fall for it EVERY SINGLE TIME!" LOVE that little wraparound back to "When She Was Bad", with the vamps luring Buffy away to allow them to attack the library, and Angelus remembering that ruse.

A question to Dak. Didn't you really get that is Whistler doing the voice over? His accent is quite strong. Something that I always find amusing in this show is how, apparently, they often forget that the story is set in California, or how loosely they follow, or rewrite, the history of the United States. Like in this episode, I'm pretty sure during the time of the knights there weren't actually many knights around in the California region engaged in skewering demons. 😂 About Xander's outburst, I would like to set aside for a moment all the tone and emotions and focus just on his position and, apparently firm belief, in what to do with Angelus, from a purely rational point of view. Well, from a purely rational point of view his position makes no sense and is, generally speaking, stupid. Thanks to the spell they are in the position to remove immediately a dangerous enemy from the board with little or no danger, no matter where he is, who he is with or what he's doing. Any conversation about what to do with Angel might possibly make some sense AFTER they dealt with Angelus, not before. Any other course of action would have been stupid or potentially ineffective. Now, we clearly know that this is a tv show and we are just one episode from the end of the season and so we expect some resolution in a way or another. But let's try for a second to see the situation from the point of view of the characters. Aside from putting Buffy's life in great danger (remember the characters don't know that she is the protagonist with 5 more seasons ahead), it may takes weeks or even months before an opportunity arises for Buffy to face Angelus. And what if Angelus, Dru and Spike decide to leave town before that moment? What then would the plan be? Now, from a more emotional standpoint, how could we evaluate Xander's behaviour? If we want to be generous and assume that he wanted to play the devil's advocate, tried to propose a different point of view to the group, he failed spectacularly. He come out judgmental, aggressive and being highly confrontational refusing to listen any other opinion. This is exactly the opposite of what to do if you want to try to get another person to reconsider his position. To make his position worse, his comment about Jenny was totally inappropriate. Of all he was certainly the person least close to Jenny, therefore the last to have the right to speak about it. If he acted like this out of unhealthy jealousy, Cordy was right there, or because he doesn't accept that the world doesn't go the way he wants, he wants Angel dead and if that means risking Buffy's life so be it, who cares, or maybe what he doesn't accept is to be the last wheel in the group, I don't know. In any case these are explanations, not justifications, and so, in my opinion, Xander deserves a zero for his behaviour in this scene. A final consideration. Does Angel deserve to be forgiven for what Angelus did during the previous episodes? The answer can only be yes, unless of course we don't want to take into consideration that any of our beloved characters are an hypocrite. They all knew what Angelus did for over 100 years before being cursed and they forgave him, accepting the idea that Angel was not Angelus. If they didn't do it now just because, in this case, they knew the people hurt or killed by Angelus it would be hypocritical, as I said. Of course their feelings about him may change after what they went through, that is fine, it's understandable, but, if he gets his soul back, they can not say “I can't forgive you”. Furthermore what happened was no one's fault because no one knew the conditions of the curse, as far as they knew his state could have been permanent.

Cracking episode I love when they do flashbacks and we get to learn of thier past , yes Dru is terrifying but I still love her 😃 barmy as a fruit bat but I don't care 🙂 it's been so long sinse ive seen this show I also don't know what game spike is playing but I'm looking forward to the moment we find out 😃 loved the reaction and am getting used to seeing your fluffy co presenter more and more 😻

So there’s apparently 2 versions of this episode available with a very minor difference. I love playing the game of guessing which version the reactor will get! In the very beginning, the voice over is either Angel or Whistler. You got the Angel version! The US DVDs are Whistler. The first time I heard Angel at the beginning after watching the Whistler version a million times, I thought I was going crazy! LOL. This is such a great episode. I think based on the vampire combustion in front of the class that the supernatural world is the worst kept secret in Sunnydale. LOL. Dru’s story is so tragic. She wants so much to be a good person and then Angelus turns her into a demon. Love the appearance of Salem! They’re so cute and tiny! (Or I just have a monstrously sized cat)

Christopher simeon

I would like to point out that your argument about the team being hypocritical if they don't forgive for his actions here seems weak. They worked with Angel yes while knowing his past. if they knew he could become angelus at a moment of pure happiness then i doubt they would have taken the same action. They have new info and it is more personal situation so i think that makes it completely different.

G.Un.

Yes, it's true that they have new info ... about a potential danger concerning Angel's condition, but it has nothing to do about forgiving Angel for what Angelus did. If they knew about the terms of the curse beforehand, Buffy and Angel alike would have acted differently in their relationship, but Buffy and the others wouldn't have held him more responsible for Angelus' past actions for that. Admitting that, in particular conditions, someone, for example Oz, could become a danger, and deciding if this someone is or is not guilty and unforgivable for what he did in such case, are two different and completely unrelated things.

Bud Haven

The Master was able to keep Buffy from running in Prophesy Girl using hypnosis or "thrall". I think Dru did something similar to Kendra to keep her still so she could kill her.

Allan Cornett

Good reaction. A great episode. The story of how Buffy became the slayer is in the movie. The movie is very very bad, but worth watching to see how much better the show is and what the movie could have been.

Christoffer Nilsson

i never understood how its payback to restore an innocent soul.. to feel the pain and suffering that the demon caused.. is it just me wondering how that is fair? or in anyway payback?

BatmanFanGirl

I actually love the movie. It's cheesy sure, but it's good cheese to me. LOL

PaulC

Not sure if I'd missed it on previous watches or if I'd just forgotten (it's been a while TBH), but I like the opening scene with Darla when she tells Angel to close his eyes, and how that ties in with the end of part 2 where Buffy says the same thing.
