I hope everyone is staying safe, my thoughts are with those that are going through very trying times right now! <3

Hello All!

This episode was sooooo much fun haha!! The chaos that ensued when adults became teens was hilarious to me. Especially watching as an adult knowing full well that none of us really know how to adult we just get really good at pretending we know what we are doing...or is that just me??? LUL. Seeing Giles all bad boy and carefree had me shook & maybe a lil hot under the collar-IM KIDDING...or am I??? BTVS giving the life lessons as always, don't rush to grow up when being young is so much easier haha.

I wanna thank you for watching & leaving comments. I read the ones on my last video & you guys make very good points re the whole Xander/Willow thing. I completely forgot about the hospital scene. Even so, still wish the transition was smoother for the audience, having said that - they're teenagers with hormones & rushing into things is kind of second nature haha. Obviously I recorded this episode before your comments so thought I'd make a note here so you guys don't think I'm ignoring your thoughts, far from it!

Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support, you're all amazing!

Much love & stay safe out there!

Dakara x

Nowhere near universally loathed, if you mean in terms of drama (read all the comments) - if you mean whether they're "shipped" - they're not supposed to be.

Love this episode! Snyder was hilarious!

It's really interesting to try and understand the evolution of Giles. He comes from a family of Watchers or at least a family that is close to the Watcher council, yet he acquired his posh accent later in life. He was a physical menace to bad guys when he was younger and still could be, but he not only chose to not display violence 99% of the time: he often let his guard completely down (and is getting a lot of concussion because of it). Are the writers playing the comedy of him getting hit over the head to the detriment of his establish background? Or did he put a spell on himself at some point (I'm not sure he is above doing that) to forget his fighting skills and his rebellious phase? Such a complex character.

"I don't want this", and so said most of us back when these episodes first aired. I did always really dislike the whole 'unrequited crush' thing between Willow and Xander, they've been friends since childhood just let them be friends, adding this into the mix is just double blech. Love hearing ASH's real accent as well, or at least the one he grew up (I believe he adjusts it for different situations). Also, also, yay my ship has returned! Of course Ethan took the job, he needed an excuse to come see his old boyfriend, I mean 'mate'. ;D

My favorite episode of the season, hands down. And that's saying alot with a season packed with great episodes.

Since we're still dealing with Xander & Willow I'll put this here. I think Xander always had feelings for Willow that were more than just friendship. How many times has Xander charged into danger to protect/save Willow? But you ask why wouldn't he act on his feelings? Fear. What does Xander know of a healthy/functional relationship? If he tries with Willow and it implodes them he loses not only his emotional rock (Willow), but Buffy will choose her side and he loses all his friends in one move. So, he repressed his feelings. Also, there's Xander's insecurity that he doesn't have value or worth. So, he would believe he's not good enough for Willow. The only reason this happened is teenage lust/hormones caused both of their repressed feelings to surface. And Xander is willing to go with it because it's NOT a relationship with Willow. The relationship he's putting at risk is with Cordelia. Losing Cordelia won't destroy him the way losing Willow would. The relationship really at risk here is Oz and Willow.

I think the "Xander and Willow cheating on Oz and Cordelia" storyline is universally loathed, even by people who shipped them in S1. This episode might be in my top ten of the whole Buffyverse. It is such a joy, and I also find teen!Giles rather scrumptious.

That’s Not Acting

Great reaction. About the willow and Xander thing, what I can say without offering any form of spoiler or even hints of spoilers for the future is that at this point in the run, for those of us who watched it when it came out, I remember very few people even being able to offer conditional approval for this pairing. I don’t remember anybody being incredibly enthusiastic over excited about it. At this point nobody liked it.

Gabe Morales

It was rather odd that, after all that time Willow took to not only get over Xander not reciprocating her feelings and find someone else, then to immediately fall backwards now that he was showing her some attention. I do agree, it was probably just teenage lust. We all make stupid decisions when we’re that age. They had to grow up very quickly, but they are still teenagers (even if the actors playing them are far from that lol).

Bart Aansorgh

I freaking love this episode. Its so awkward and weird, but in the best way. I'm also on the please no train regarding the Willow/Xander ship here. Knowing where it goes I can live with it, I had the same sentiment at the time though. The parents turning into teens as buffy is complaining they're loading too much on her is a nice juxtaposition and I think they really did that great. Definitely with Giles and Buffy's mom just makin out when she finds them. That scene was brilliant. I'm still on the Buffy/Angel ship myself. :)

Chas Summers

Ask me after the season is over about the W/X storyline.

Allan Cornett

OK I am shallow, I started watching your reactions because of the way you say Buff eh. Great reaction. I am glad I am sharing this journey with you.

Allan Cornett

By the way the vast majority of fans do not ship Xillow because they like Cordy and love Oz. Willow has had a crush on Xander so I can understand but I don’t like it. Xander has no excuse.

Jim Greer

Any time Ethan returns is a fun episode .

Christopher simeon

You can not condemn xander without saying the same for willow. There is no excuse that gives either a pass. They both are messing up even though it is understandable.

Kyle Junge

@ Allan Cornett I agree Xander has no excuse, I disagree that you don’t seem to equally condemn Willow. It’s clear she is in this as much as him. I mean they are both high school students and I remember high school… you are almost a slave to hormones as far as you’re feelings go but in the end you still control you’re actions. And it is both Willow and Xander that are taking the wrong actions here. I can forgive them both because I remember what it’s like to be a confused, hormonal high school student and anyone who says they never made poor decisions as a teenager is lying but let’s not pretend Willow isn’t equally culpable here.

Allan Cornett

@Kyle Junge I agree with your take. Myself and many fans forget the scoobies are teens. I would list the number of mistakes I made as a teen but we would be here all day.

Allan Cornett

If you love Eliza in Bring it On and Buffy, you will really love her in Dollhouse. It is a Joss show with Eliza in the lead role as Echo.

Donald Mellen

My headcanon for Willow doing this is a bit complicated. Initially, she was an outsider who was picked on and ignored by the popular kids. When she met Buffy, she started to get a sense of self-worth and not just belonging to a group, but a group that is helping the world and preventing apocalypsi (plural?). She's become interested in magic and has a guy that is really into her. Her self-esteem has jumped by leaps and bounds and that can be a very heady experience. Then, her long-time crush also shows an interest in her. That kind of validation can definitely mess with your head after all she's been through.

Eric Haefele

As for Willow and Zander. No one seems to appreciate what to me is a natural dynamic. Willow has been in love with Xander forever. She could never get him. That is one half of the equation. The other half is a little boy whose best friend is a little girl. As they grow up he continues to see her as this little girl. But at some point, usually after some other boy shows an interest in her, his view point shifts and he now sees her as a potential mate. This dynamic happens in the real world all the time. The fact that they are both in relatively new relationships with others in no way diminishes their long history together.

Phoenix Dawn

I doubt anyone would be shipping Xander and Willow at this point in the story tbh. So, totally understand your feelings.

Shellbot

I was completely the same first watch through with Willow and Xander and watching this reaction Im still the same. It just doesn't feel right at all. As soon as I saw the chocolate I made a little happy noise at the episode. I am also attracted to bad boy Giles 😂

Raven Dark

I know I'm in the minority, here, but the Willow/Xander thing, to me, was well-built up, and it did feel natural to me. I don't like it, but I disagree that it's done badly or feels out of place. Allow me to try and explain why. For one thing, all the things Xander says that, on the surface, indicate he isn't interested in Willow are just the opposite. I think he has been for a long time. Look at the way he reacted to Oz and her being together in season two, in the episode when we find out Oz is a werewolf. He passes it off as friendship, and it is probably partly protectiveness, but it's also jealousy. Second, look at the way he reacted in ep 13 of season two, when Willow said she couldn't get over how cool Oz was about finding out there were vampires. When he said I'm over it, you saw how he said he was over it. I believe you mentioned something about the way he said it. That was his trying to get her off the topic of Oz because he didn't want to think about Oz being with her. And there were other hints along the way, including how nervous he got when she made moves on him when he did the love spell that affected every female in Sunnydale. I think he wasn't nervous because she was a girl making a move on him. We've seen him handle stronger moves from Cordy just fine. it freaked him out because it forced him to face that he's attracted to her. She's also his best friend, which makes it really complicated. Also, this is why it freaked him out in the second to last ep of season two, when Willow saw Cordy and him together. He was afraid she'd hate him, and part of that was probably fear of losing her respect and friendship, but I think it was also because he had feelings for her even then. One of the reasons I think he held back from doing anything up to this point is because they are friends and he doesn't want to risk losing that. When two people who are close friends end up romantically involved, if the relationship ends, it often ends the friendship too. Another reason is because he's also attracted to Buffy. It would be hard to know what to do. I think it's also possible that, although he had real feelings for Cordy, part of the reason he was with her at the start was because she was "safe." It started as just a hot fling he could have, with a gorgeous popular girl, which boosted his ego, but that also meant he wouldn't risk getting involved with Willow or Buffy and losing either of their friendship. Being with Cordy meant no damage. But then that meaningless fling developed into real feelings for Cordy. I believe along the lines of what another commenter said, that the reason Willow and Xander acted on their feelings the moment they had those clothes on has to do with finally seeing Willow as a woman instead of something more like a little sister, as he did in season one.

Raven Dark

Oops, it sent before I finished, but what I was getting at with my last point was this. Xander has been slowly getting more and more attracted to her, seeing her less and less like a childhood best friend and more as a mate. Seeing her in that dress, looking unusually mature and extra lovely forced him to finally face what she is to him. He couldn't ignore it anymore. Also, I think that when a girl starts dating someone else, it tends to trigger feelings that until then, are held back or buried. Being with Oz made her more confident, made her come out of her shell, and that made her more attractive than she already was. Plus, there was tension between him and Cordy, which opened the door. Just my thoughts.

Most people don't ship Willow/Xander, but I don't think you're meant to. One of my favorite things about Buffy is the way the show constantly explores realistic but destructive elements of life rather than just trying to please fans. W/X is a good example of what happens when you miss your window with someone or something but you aren't mature enough to let it go instead of trying to force it. I personally think it's very well set up to do that--to make you say oh, no, this is too late. The whole season is about consequences for reckless behavior and learning that being an adult means letting go of self-indulgence, and Willow/Xander is an excellent example of it. Ed. to add: Joyce taking her gum out of her mouth before she kisses Giles is so weirdly charming and absurd that it always makes me happy.

Nicholas Corgan

27:45 Being attracted to Giles is never strange.
