Hello All!

Hansel & Gretel with a dark twist. We got to meet Willow's mum in this one which I found very enlightening. I'd like to meet Xander's folks too now. I feel it adds another layer to our characters learning about their home life too. Joyce may have been under the influence of ghost children in this but she did make some great points during her speech haha. The Major not so much! I enjoyed seeing Willow dabble with witchcraft further & see her with friends outside of the 'Scooby gang'. Bring on the next one guys!

Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support, you're all amazing!

Much love & stay safe out there!

Dakara x

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reaction 3X11-1.mp4

Comments

This episode really escalates quickly. Besides that it was demon misguiding Joyce, i do like her reaction. How it escalates the more she thinks about eveyrthing that buffy has to deal with. Before it becomes twisted ofcourse. Willow's situation with her mum is interesting, and i like that we get to see more wicca willow. All in all this is a really good "filler" episode that builds the characters further.

Gabe Morales

When Cordy is not being “mean”, she brings the comedy like no other character. “One of these days you’re gonna wake up in a coma.” I had the same reaction as Giles 😂.

Meredith

Sorry you’re having a rough week Dakara. I’m glad the show could make you laugh and forget for a bit. This is one of my favorites of season 3- classic one-liners.

Dave Ford

Ah things must be rough if you're not headbanging alone to the theme tune. This did seem to cheer you up a bit, glad to see. Possibly Cordelia's best line ever "One of these days you'll wake up in a coma."

Claire Eyles

I'm really sorry to hear about the roughness, I hope things get better for you soon. Thank you for still posting the reaction. This episode is definitely on the filler side of things, but I do remember when it first aired having quite a strong response to it because of the whole 'satanic panic' vibes. I think passage of time has lessened the impact, but when I first started practicing Wicca around 1987 there was definitely the risk of some very real persecution due to a sort of collective madness centred out around alleged satanic cults and ritual murders/abuse. I was verbally abused and spat on in the street for wearing a pentagram necklace, my Mum dragged me to four different Doctors until she found the one who would tell me what she wanted me to hear, that dabbling in the 'occult' was super ultra dangerous & I would somehow end up dead, insane or incarcerated if I didn't immediately stop; older practitioners I knew back then had their homes and cars vandalised, received threats of violence, had child services called on them, and so on. It might be easy for us in western culture to dismiss the idea of literal witch hunts (albeit minus the execution/stake burning) ever happening again, I mean it's not like we're living in ye olden times, but that idea very quickly gets quashed when you suddenly find yourself caught up in the modern day equivalent of Salem lite.

glad to see this cheered you up dak and had you smiling at the end was hoping to see willow levitate a pencil maybe next time :) this was a fun episode though and i enjoyed your reaction very much

Hehe I really like this monster of the week episode. The twists and turns....showing the town going mad and vengeful....bringing Amy back....loved x

Bud Haven

The idea of parents turning on their children is as frightening to me as any demons. But the ending with Buffy saying Did I get it? Did I get it? makes me laugh every time.

Blain H Granado

“We need to save Buffy from Hansel and Gretel.” Classic line. Also, that Angel and Buffy moment about continuing to fight is an important stepping stone for Angel’s character.

Phoenix Dawn

The pleasant surprise in this episode is the Cordy-Giles pairing! It is so delightful!

Jim Greer

Finger in the duck is one of my all time favourite lines . Glad this episode lifted yours spirits somewhat .

I thought Joyce had some really interesting points. Buffy has been told by the Watcher's Council that she must work in secret and alone. But Joyce, seeing this with fresh eyes, sees that it's unfair for one person to carry this burden alone. Buffy working in this way allows her wider community to operate with a level of denial that's not ethically ok at all. The community (both Sunnydale and globally) has a responsibility not to turn away from the suffering at the edges of their awareness. But they do. Buffy carries that burden (both the physical fighting, and the emotional weight of the knowledge of the suffering).

Tim Pierce

No fruit for Buffy is a classic to me as well.

Josee (Griffe)

Great reaction! It entertained us and seems to have help you out of a funk. You are right about Xander's guilt. This guy is just a bundle of emotions mix with low esteem issues. I'm not sure Willow's mother is any different when not under a demon's influence (except for the burning a daughter part). She is missing out on a relationship that could be so rich for both of them... It makes me wonder about Willow's dad.

A fun bit of trivia - the term "Big Bad" has its origins in Buffy. The writers used that expression to refer to their main season antagonist. In Season 2, Buffy referred to Angel/Angelis as the 'big bad thing in the dark' and in this episode Buffy says the occult symbol is 'not a big bad', which is the first time it is used as a noun in the show. Nowadays it's pretty common to hear about a Big Bad on a show so it's fun that Buffy had a hand in that. There are a few expressions that are common today that came from this show. Quite the influencers, these scoobies.

John

P.s. Really glad you're loving the show. I'm having fun catching up on this re-watch so I can be current with y'all.
