Hello All!

Game changing episode this one for me. We got more history of Nick & his parents/family. The coins were incredibly powerful & changed so many people that held them. Was scary to see them in the hands of the captain, he scares me as is, never mind under the influence of evil!

Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Yes it's true about the original meaning of the Swastika, going back for millennia it was associated with auspiciousness, good luck, good will, etc. It even appears in early Christian artwork. There is a section of the Cologne Cathedral where they've unearthed part of the much older (circa 5th century) church the cathedral was built on, and the tiling of the floor is just all swastikas. It's an ancient symbol that was used by many religions as a symbol of good, right up until the Nazi's co-opted it and turned it into something reprehensible.

The ending of this episode I remember causing a bit of a stir when it first aired, a few people didn't think it was appropriate and/or in very bad taste to turn Hitler into a literal monster. I did enjoy the insight into the idea of 'mixed relationships' between Grimms and Wesen & that it's not always approved of by their families.

Claire Eyles

Yep, exactly. I know a few people of Asian cultural background who still lament the loss of a symbol that, up until the Nazi's messed it up for then, held deep cultural and spiritual meaning for them. I know there's been some small attempts by cultures trying to reclaim the symbol back for themselves, and its original meaning, but it's just too tainted now, which is really sad.

yeah you could find them on google maps, i think marking buddhist temples. Unless I am mistaken, looks like in some countries the symbol has been changed to a snowflake looking symbol. But in some countries it still a swastika. https://goo.gl/maps/woGt7Ze6dGfGDBpYA a few temples in this area.

I think even native americans used a swastika like symbol, to represent infinity or zero?

Claire Eyles

Yes, the Navajo, Hopi, some of the Plains Tribes and Passamquoddy (sp?) of Canada all used it to some degree with various meanings (directions of the four winds, symbol of the wandering tribe, etc). Considering the earliest known swastika symbol found dates back to 10,000 BCE & the symbol has been used by multiple cultures from the Celts, Finno-Ugaric Sammi, Greco-Roman, Mongols, and so on, I think you'd actually have an easier time listing those cultures who didn't use the symbol compared to those who did.

Yup yup, like everyone's mentioned, the swastika had been around, before Adolf and his Nazis. Which is why in India, a lot of people from the States and Europe, find themselves horrified to discover the symbol adorned on the most inconspicuous places, like taxis, random walls. Lol.
