Hello Buffyfans,

ANGEL WAS SO CLOSE YET SO FAR!!! Crazy that practically everyone else spoke to Angel apart from Buffy?! As well as the angst one of the funniest scenes ever in this episode when they cut to Spike tied to a chair with arrows through him! Luckily the heart was missed haha. This episode showed the group struggling with their emotions and their differences of opinions but all trying to come together over a lovely meal!

Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support, you're all amazing!

Much love & stay safe out there!

Dakara x

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reaction 4X08-1.mp4

I love spike but he is toxic no doubt. You can't forget that he is a vampire with no soul.

The look Spike had on his face right before the credits at the end though 😂

The humor in this episode was top notch! It’s one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. Spike: the inhuman pincushion never fails to make me laugh. “A bear! You made a bear!” “I didn’t mean to.” “UNDO IT! UNDO IT!” A lot of quotable bits in this episode 😂. All I kept thinking when Xander just had to spill the beans that Angel was there was “you dumbass” lol.

I heard people say that the show did poorly by representing the First Nations as killers in this episode. That it is was poor taste. But I think that the writers choosing to have those conversations thru Willow, Giles and Buffy was a good thing, a bold thing even. Was it perfectly executed? Was it satisfying for people 20 years later that are trying to do better, be better? Of course not. There is no solution to what was done in the past. We can make amends, that is about it. But to change a way of thinking or a behavior, we need to be aware of what was done, and why. We need to have conversations. The downside of starting a conversation like that thru an episode of Buffy is that the humor and violence of the show kinds of drown the topic at hand. Can't blame them for trying, tho. It's up to us to keep having those conversations. It's not a bad thing to reflect on society (then and now) while still enjoying TV shows as pieces of entertainment.

Oooh, am feeling all tingly and quoted! And you're welcome. Reassuring to see that touch of parker-venom in your summary. Funny to see so many reactors develop a soft-spot for Spike. Can't imagine why that might be. Very funny episode, which in common with a lot of Buffyverse comedy episodes (which is what was intended, despite the thanksgiving/genocide aspect) serves to drive character development along.

Yes ladies I too like mushy peas 😋 especially with battered sausage and chips but not nearly as much as I like daks air drumming 🙌 spike being my favourite character in the entire show it's always great when he makes an appearance 👌

Memorable line – “I like my evil like I like my men: evil. You know?” A strong no from me – Buffy with the cowboy hat and Riley's camo face painting. Missed opportunity – Angel on a bike. Another really funny episode. I particularly enjoyed this feel good throwback sensation of having the entire gang under the same roof interacting and working together like the old times. We also have the first cross-over in BTVS and, as far as cross-overs go it's definitely weak, it almost seems an afterthought, something stick up to an existing episode at the last moment to satisfy the network's requests. If you think about, you can easily write Angel off without changing anything in the episode. On the contrary in the Angel cross-over with the gem of Amara for example, write off the gem from the episode and you'll lose the entire episode. About cross-overs, I would like to suggest to Dakara to stop waiting for conversations in BTVS about events in Angel because they actually did their best to insulate, at least story wise, one show from the other. Cross-over were usually imposed by the network as promotional material to generate interest among the audience of the main show for the new one but, at the same time, they didn't want to scare or push away viewers who were not interested in the spin-off or who were just unable to watch it, so the cross-over in one show needed to be as independent as possible from any knowledge of the other show. Sadly as much as you can insulate story wise one show from the other, you can't do the same with the productions that have to watch each other and coordinate to find a way to insert the cross-overs instead of freely going on with their own stories at their own pace. Not counting the times in which members of the cast of one show are unavailable because busy on the set of the other show forcing the screen writers to change or completely rewrite entire episodes at the last moment. All these problems for something designed to be non essential. Clearly I'm not a fan of cross-over in general, but I know and accept the many others really like them, so I'm fine. I wasn't able to watch Angel at the time (streaming and binge watching were not a thing yet) and I watched it only later when I managed to get it on DVD, Personally, I don't feel to have missed anything. Actually I probably enjoyed both shows more because, however similar they seem, they have huge differences in tone, style and even world building and many times I feel that they don't mesh well when you jump from one to the other.

This episode is a great one. They really do humour well in this show and we're at a point in the series where everyone really knows their characters well. I find the dialogue and interactions feel so comfortable at this point that I can't help but get pulled right into it. I'm so glad you're loving the show.

Cannot wait for the next one! On of my fav episodes :)

Neil Silverman

To your point about Spike manipulating Harmony, I think it's very telling how good he is at it. One of the things that makes him different from other vampires is how insightful he really is about people - their wants, needs, and motivations. It's just that he uses that insight for evil.

Krisan Seeley

Great episode, for sure! The part with the bear is put into compilations of funny clips all the time and it never fails to crack me up. I agree with you about Spike's relationships. In my opinion, he acts like that because he has no soul. He's very narcassistic and manipulative even though he thinks he loves Dru. A soul would allow a person to feel empathy for another and sacrificing your wants and desires for someone else instead of just selfishly manipulating that person to give you what you want.

Bart Aansorgh

Lovely episode. Spike is amazing comic relief and you just gotta love all his snarky comments. Xander at the end finishes right off. The bickering between all the scoobies shows they each have their own issues to deal with, Though a confrontation with Angel and buffy would be interesting, but it would throw a wrench int he riley thing for sure. Though angel/buffy will always be my fav :).

Joseph Johnson

Loved this episode and your reaction was amazing. It was nice to see Buffy focusing on something special for the group, making a nice dinner for them. As for tackling such a loaded issue, I think they did as well as they could. There isn't really a way to say, oops my bad, we all good now. In the end all we can do is learn from our past failings and become better. On to a topic many don't agree with. I don't like Angel and Buffy together either. I am a father myself so personally I wouldn't be happy if my thirteen year old daughter, Buffy was fifteen when she was activated and Angel first saw her and fell in love with her, wanted to date. I would be putting boot to ass quickly. Personally I like Spike, yeah he is very toxic and most of that is the demon within him. Still their is a funny and charming side to him as well. He also isn't much a monster in comparison to the other vampires on the show. He doesn't care about being evil, he just wants the next big fight. Not many vampires have killed a single slayer and has killed two so far. He is a warrior, who is currently impotent. Get well soon William the Bloody.

Not my favourite episode TBH. I feel like the first crossover with both main characters should have been a bigger deal, but this is all a bit MOTW and there's no real reason for Angel to be there. Good comedy though, and at least it leads into a much better ep over on Angel.

William Lawrence

Maybe my favourite line of the entire show. "A Bear, you made a bear!" Love Spike.
