Hello All!

Big snake huh?! This show looooves a big snake hahaha. On a more serious note...Seeing Joyce so vulnerable is literally breaking my heart guys. The way Buffy looks at her Mum...I can't even! SHE BETTER BE OKAY!!! Riley issues continue & definitely taking a scary turn. Glory is continuing to run a muck! Dawn needs protecting!

Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Janel Davis

You were so close to making it through this whole episode without cracking up at the bad snake-monster 😂

Ed Green

The big snake casts a shadow over what otherwise is a very serious episode. Also, personally I take the view that when the monk said 'we built your memories', it doesn't mean they just made them up, it means they essentially played out a scenario where Dawn existed and then made it real. So that memories of Dawn's life aren't just fictions, but actual events shaped by her and her family's personalities and agency. That feels more natural than the alternative. More in line with the idea that Dawn isn't just an invention, she's a person who just hasn't physically existed as long as she thinks. Ben might be suspicious but he did acknowledge his advice was 'unsolicited', as in not asked for.

And Sandy gets dusted :(

Just a short response to the Buffy and Spike scenario spoke of at the end of the video. I agree. People should be free to ship or not ship certain couples without worrying about judgment from other fans. In terms of "Spuffy" (or "Bike" as it's been called on one channel) there are some reactors who ship them and some who don't. So whichever side you fall on, you'll have some kindred spirits. I think I'm one of the few who shipped them in my head long before I thought it might ever happen on the show. Back when he made a truce with Buffy against Angel toward the end of season 2. I had no idea they would potentially make it a thing in season 5.

SweetSummit

I can't not call them Bike anymore. It's like ingrained. :)

Steve Quast

I never liked "Spuffy" anyway.

Buffy made huge strides considering it’s budget and for it’s time with CGI and practical effects sadly Snake Monster was not one of them lol. Though I do admire their ambition trying something they obviously didn’t have the tech for at the time.

Bud Haven

Riley wants to be needed by Buffy. He tried to get Buffy to let him comfort her. When she said she couldn't he was disappointed. He wants Buffy to turn to him, not because she needs to, but because he needs her to. Riley makes her problems about him. He wants Buffy to lean on him. But Buffy's been trained to be self-sufficient. She doesn't need him the way he needs to be needed.

Jon Freezin-Rain

..do we need to send Willow a sympathy card? 😉

rattusprat

Well, the show let the scene at the end of 5x04 play out a looong time before telling us it's a dream. So at least the show is not surprised that a viewer would be Riding the Bike at this point.

DakaraJayne

that snake though haha. I like that view re Dawn & completely agree that it adds more weight that way too. I just don't trust him, he's up to something, just don't know what yet. Thanks for watching Edel :)

How does she not need to? She is going through hard times right now. Usually in a relationship that is when your SO is there for you. Instead of crying alone in a backyard she could have been telling Riley what's going on so he feels like she wants to be in this relationship. What he is doing is wrong but the issues are clear. Buffy biggest character flaw is her lack of emotional availability. She holds everything she is feeling away from everyone because she has to be tough because she is "the slayer". Remember that time she didn't tell them she killed angel. But she also wants to be regular buffy. Riley is trying to fit in with both sides of her(he tried patrolling and she rejected it) and he tried being the normal boyfriend and she doesn't let him in on important parts of her life.)

Claire Eyles

So I see you've finally met 'Fake the Snake" :D

Stargazer1682

I agree with Christopher. I'm far from a Riley/Buffy shipper, but he's clearly trying to give her the opportunity to let him be there for her, and she's not letting him in. Christ, she's good with telling Spike about Joyce, but takes telling Riley for granted; so much so that she doesn't wonder how he knows to come to the hospital. And she doesn't tell him what's the issue, just that it's "bad" - which literally could mean anything; including the fact that Joyce needs further testing, which is all he learned from Spike. If he was making it about himself, he'd be making it about himself. You know, to Buffy. We're aware of how Riley's feeling only by virtue of being among the audience watching it, while Buffy is very clearly oblivious. On top of all of that, we have Dawn telling him how Buffy cried all the time with and because of Angel; and he knows that Angel was a great love of Buffy's life. So there's a not entirely unreasonable correlation that if she can be vulnerable with Angel, but not with him; and if you are deeply in love with someone who it's becoming clear doesn't love you, what's the *right* way to respond to that? Are you just supposed to shrug it off and say, "that's cool. I'll just wait at home by the phone and you just call - or not, whatever works for you." You can all but guarantee she told the Scoobies about her mom before the CT scan. We don't see it, but there's not way she didn't at least tell Willow, and probably Giles, because they are easily the closest people in her support system; and it's not implausible she'd tell Xander too. But Riley's an after thought. Less than that. If he hadn't shown up to the hospital, because Spike told him, would she have even noticed?

Stargazer1682

Agreed on Dawn. I've made the case for years that it makes more sense the monks made some sort of reality fold, kind of like The Wish - an alternate timeline where everything plays out essentially the same, but with Dawn added to it; and it's been grafted to the rest of reality. The spell to see spells showed Buffy the variation between those realities, but that's it. When you consider the clothes she has to have, the CDs she says were hers that were mixed in with Buffy's, the stuffed animals in her room, the posters on her wall, the years of report cards and art projects; so many things that make a person's life that go beyond the pale of memories - 14 years worth - that are clearly present and tangible, but would take the monks a lifetime to personally fabricate; ostensibly at least 14 years. And it makes more sense if they're responsible for the catalyst, but really, all of the experiences that the characters had with or because of Dawn really happened to them.

Stargazer1682

I'm not sure I get people shitting on the snake so much. Like, there's some pretty terrible special effects *now*; and a lot of that has to do with over reliance on CGI. Too many shows and movies rely on digital, instead of practical effects, that effects production houses are overextended, and that overextensions has caused some to close, which only over-burdens the remains ones, and so on. I'll give props to the prop people or whomever that made it; better than Moloch in season 1. Beats the hell out of the Gorn in Star Trek TOS. Although even that I don't think was the absolute worst. The CGI may not have been earthshattering or Oscar-worthy, but it was good enough to get the job done.

Julian Welton

Come on Buffy, enough with the big snakes already lol! A kind of funny behind the scenes story about this episode is that for the filming of that scene at the zoo they brought in a bunch of live snakes, unfortunately a nine foot boa constrictor got loose so Sarah and Claire (Glory) had to wait around, standing on chairs to avoid the snake, while the crew dismantled the set looking for it. They ended up finding it in the walls. Great reaction as always, and I'll see you next time!
