Recrafted: v0.1.4 Changelog (Patreon)
Content
Hey Patrons, Recrafted v0.1.4 is here!
v0.1.4 brings the long awaited 1.21.11 support, huge performance gains of 2x FPS, and much more. Here's a little video showcasing some of the changes in the plains biome:
Additions, Tweaks & Updates:
Minecraft 1.21.11 support – Recrafted now fully supports the latest game version! Also, I haven't fully removed support for older versions, however, may not be fully compatible.
New Copper Item Textures – With the addition of many more copper items, I've spent the time to retexture all of the prominent ones, the tools, weapons, nuggets, and more.
Spear Retextures – Aside from the wooden and stone spears, all of them have now been retextured for the 1.21.11 port.
Hoe Retextures – Added the hoe retextures for the wood, stone, gold, diamond, and netherite toolset.
Misc. Item Retextures – Leather and paper textures by Viper, diamond texture by me.
Updated Falling Birch Leaves – Being the second most common tree in the game, it made sense to finally update these to match the features and tech in the oak leaves. They now have much better physics, and have the ability to land on water.
Retextured Chainmail Armor & Items – The Chainmail Armor set has been redone in Recrafted's style, by Icedmi.
Reworked Clouds – Clouds are now thicker and more three-dimensional, with distinct cloud masses instead of a single world-covering sheet. They also feature wind movement, reworked color mapping, greater shape variation, extended render distance, and light rays pouring through them.
Reworked Plains Biome – I've redone the plains to match real-life references of country sides as closely as possible during all weather types.
Optimization Improvements:
Optimized Animated Textures, Bushy Leaves, & Emitters – I've spent quite a bit of time removing all the redundant animated textures, optimizing bushy leaves geometry, and cutting out redundant sound & particle emitters. Below are some of the results:
Nearly 2x FPS, from 140 FPS average to 260 FPS average on my PC.
Stuttering reduced on average by 99-100%, from 35% stuttering frames on average which was unplayable, to an average of 0-0.2%.
50% reduction in the standard deviation of FPS, meaning that it's a lot smoother and won't stutter as you look around.
10x performance in in FPS 1% lows, from FPS lows of 10-12 FPS to 100-120 FPS.
10 MB reduction in file size, it's a tiny bit faster to download.
0 visual downgrades, everything looks identical to how it did prior to the optimizations.
After all of these optimizations, the pack actually runs much closer to vanilla, only showing a roughly 20-30% decrease in average fps, from 320 FPS to 260 FPS with the pack enabled on my end. In terms of smoothness, it runs just as well or better with a lower FPS standard deviation than vanilla.
Unfortunately, Patreon does not allow high frame-rate video uploads, so click here to view before and after videos of the optimizations to the pack. Lastly, here's the FPS charts from both the before and after, as you can see the later version has far less red, the red being lag and stuttering.
Snow Optimization Changes – The snow was one of the most lag prone areas of the pack in previous versions. I've created a new system that approximates the spawning location for snowflakes rather than checking every air block, leading to much better performance. Here's the main points:
Approximately 80% Higher FPS, from 130 FPS to 230 FPS average on my PC.
Stuttering decreased by 95% during snow, from a massive 60% to just 3%.
Just like before, click here to view a video of the changes. Once again, here's the FPS charts showing how massive of a performance upgrade the optimizations made. The stuttering went from being completely out of control and unplayable, to just 3%.
Fixes & Cleanups:
Corrected a few Item Textures – Corrected handle texturing on some tools, made tweaks to ingot retextures, and updated the book texture palettes.
Fixes to various blocks – Fixed nether sprouts missing a model, fixed leaf blocks not emitting breaking particles, corrected red sand overlay palette, and fixed spore blossom emitting incorrect particles.
Sound effect fixes – Rebalanced ambient wind sounds, removed snow block emitting wind sounds, changed grass step sound to a more proper one, and prevented bird sounds from emitting at night.
Reworked Environmental Attributes – Every biome now has reworked modifiers, this means reworked fog, better sky and fog color transitions, and overall several less bugs.
Tweaked Lightmap – I've made minor changes to the lightmap shader to add a bit more depth to the shadows.
Other Changes:
New Installer Modpack – I've updated the modpack to now be designed with 1.21.11 in mind, added Fresh Player Animations and Shoulder Surfing, and spent a while adding new optimization mods that provide benefits specific to Recrafted.
Known Issues:
Incorrect Fog Skylight Multiplier – Mojang hardcoded a feature where weather fog disappears at skylight level 8, this is a terrible implementation. Unfortunately, I do not yet have any way of altering or correcting it.
Sandstorms Temporarily Disabled – Currently sandstorms have been disabled as their long outdated in the pack, and would take more significant efforts to rework in 1.21.11, hence this will be re-implemented in v0.1.5.
Improper Snowstorm Visuals – Part of the optimizations done on the snow make the snowstorms not spawn snowflakes in the correct positions during intense winds, I'm already working on a fix for this though.
Cloud Light Ray Clipping – It's a minor bug, but cloud light ray particles occasionally intersect with the camera, or cull while still in view.
Potential Environmental Attribute Issues – There's a slight possibility that the ordering of environmental layers may result in strange visuals during weather events in non-vanilla overworld biomes.
Planned Features for v0.1.5:
Major Biome Reworks – Similar to the plains, a large quantity of other biomes will receive visual upgrades in preparation for the trailer.
Improved Snowstorms – Just fixing them to look how they were intended prior to v0.1.4's optimization update on the snow.
Reworked Sandstorms – These haven't been updated since the last trailer, hence, they'll be completely remade and improved for the next trailer.
Closing Notes
This version was quite a while in the working; what started as a smaller version that focused on just a 1.21.11 port, turned into a huge optimization update, alongside many other features. This version is by far the best and most stable Recrafted ever released. As a whole, this is by far my favorite update, and I hope it's yours too!
