Happy New Year skele-fam! Hope your holidays were good! We've been in a bit of a hibernation since shooting our last video right before christmas. But we're ready to start getting back into the swing of things.

But first off, the podcast will return on next Monday the 16th 6:00 pm PT!

And second, discord mod applications are still open! We'll be approving new mods soon so get your applications in asap! https://forms.gle/MuDoeugtcPeMU6jw5.

As we enter our 9th year (which is frightening to write down) we have to admit that 2022 was a weird year for us. Switching our payout method was a great change and huge relief but it took us some time to get to used it. We suddenly had way more time to make videos but we maybe didn't use that time as wisely. I think we made some of our best work last year but I'm disappointed we didn't make more of it.

So let us have it, positives and negatives - what do you want to see from us in 2023? What didn't you see enough of in 2022? No kid gloves, I know we can do better and I want to you to feel like you're spending you energy and money in the right place.

As always, thanks for the years of support, this patreon is almost 10 years old!! And we're still going strong, it's ridiculous! We're both so grateful that we get to do this at all and that we've been able to do it for this long.

Love and Thanks,Derek and Grace

A return to short-form videos, like the old Punching Weights (think the the Resident Evil 1 ports video). It seems every SSFF video now has to be a big bombastic splash and I find myself missing the older smaller videos that were a bit more frequent than the deep dives we get now. I love the deep dives of course, but they've become a bit all consuming.

Victor Cardenas

We didn't saw enough Zeebo! Hopefully the video talking about it's library comes out soon. And please, feel free to do as much creative and original topics as you please to do. The Xbox Arcade episode felt a little out of field for some, but as long as you folks are happy making that kind of content, I'm happy too :)

Ilan Cardenas-Silverstein

I really like the longer documentary style videos, I think that it mixes very well with the love for the weird and obscure we all have. My main thing though, is that I don't really care about upload frequency? I'd rather support you guys to make higher quality, well researched videos regardless of length than more standard reviews. I think the channel always stands out when it really narrows in on not just the content of the game itself but the stories surrounding its production and release.

Paul B-C

Short or long, whatever works best for you guys the YT algorithm is cool with me! I've got a real soft spot for deep-dives into weird peripherals/handheld games etc, but will absolutely trust SSFF to find interesting bits and pieces to dig into.

Vwtifuljoe

Love the long form videos, definitely keep those up. They are like special events! Like others who do miss the short videos, what about exploring youtube shorts? Some older content could be cut into shorts, or newer ones that highlight either a specific aspect about a particular game. I'd love to see some more merch options, maybe you can do things beyond t-shirts? (But I wouldn't say no to some new shirts either)

HarmonyFM

The secret RPGs in Final Lap Twin and World Court Tennis for the turbografx-16. More Zeebo content.

Polar-Star

As someone else mentioned they liked shorter videos, I just wanted to weigh in and say that I personally prefer the longer videos. I will gladly wait longer for long videos. It makes them great to re-watch over and over again running in the background while I work on a project for background noise. I cannot even begin to count how many times I've re-watched y'alls videos. That said, I certainly don't mind shorter videos and definitely wouldn't be upset in any way if some were uploaded. Just a preference of mine, but anything you guys put out, short or long, I'm sure I'll love!

Y.

Got no problem with the length of the videos, but I would like to see more videos about the games, aside from just the history as you guys have really good understanding of game design and helped me discover some of my favorite games over the years. Happy to keep supporting you, keep it up!

Richard Tango Taylor

Personally more content more often more at a consistent rate last year was very sporadic, more communication don’t go dark on us for so long keep us informed! As most importantly stay dumb, interesting and powerful because that’s what I’ve come to love about this channel and you guys.

Valora Inverse

Always whatever weird stuff y'all love that's gnawing on the inside of your brainspace to get out into the world, that kind of thing always makes the best sort of videos to me, like the Playstation Doom, or going off on a tear about a bunch of weird controllers.

Korey Burns

One of my favorite videos you guys ever did was covering Dragon Quest and the wild history behind the music. It was different from anything I had seen and I'd love more deep dives into obscure things like that. Maybe different aspects behind specific games rather than the games then themselves. Regardless, I'm excited to see what y'all will cover in 2023!

Spencer Cream

I always find that my favorite videos are the ones that were clearly something you two were stoked to make. Like, I know you said that the video Derek did on Link's Awakening didn't perform super well, but it's also one of my all time favorite SSFF videos. I know that's a tough sell with Youtube analytics, but fwiw wanted to voice that I always fall in love with your "let me get this bainworm out" videos!

ThatsANiceHat

More N-Gage! Nevermind the fact that I was supposed to send you N-Gage stuff like three months ago... But in actuality, I love the videos where you dive into the history of things - especially the weird things! Like, how the hell did FF13-Versus become FF15, and why was it so great even though it was so bad? Or What other cool games did the lady that made both the INCREDIBLE FF15 soundtrack AND the SF2 theme contribute to, and can you play them all? Clearly I have FF on the mind, but you get the idea.

Vitas Varnas

More N64 related videos like looking at FMV in N64 titles or how Factor 5 helped revolutionise voice over and sound on the system (tons of non-Factor 5 N64 games give credit to Factor 5/LucasArts for licensing their tech like Pokémon Stadium and 007 TWINE).

David Mueller

I would like a deep dive into pinball

sad boi sundays

When there's a lull between videos, just a short from Uncle Derek letting us know how proud of us he is 🥲

FaSCoRP

Personally I like Uncle Derek choices. It is always weird stuff. Like playing Mario with the mouse or some awkward things. That is why I subscribed first. If he do reviews, I also like when he introduces comments or features other reviewers normally miss or forget (or are not aware). More content is always good

Genon

More Punching Weight content please! Also, I really liked the old Happy Game Nerd video you did where you dissected the Historical Society level of Silent Hill 2. I really loved the long-form hardcore level design/scare analysis of that video and have always wanted to see more like it. It doesn't necessarily *have* to cover horror games, but that kind of in-depth level analysis really got me interested.

Daniel Duran

I would love a return of the Re:Certified Classic series. Especially with the "next gen" era being current, we can add PS3/360 games into the mix. It would be good for in-between videos too. Because we all know of games that could use the treatment.

James Ottoson

This is weird, because whatever you seem to do—I’ll watch and enjoy it. You both made some really exceptional videos and documentaries! I will mention that your Symphony of the Night video was very amusing! The writing was very stream of conscious, and it didn’t seem like (from an outside perspective) it took as much time as some of your other videos. It just seemed to really stand out as a nice bit of content between some thicker, more produced videos (at least in feel). I just wish YouTube didn’t punish creators for trying out different things (and videos of varying length).

Eduardo Jiménez

Have you thought of adding Spanish caption to your videos? There is a big retro gaming community in Latin America and Spain that could potentially be interested on your videos. Well, it's just a thought. I don't have any data to support that, so I don't know what the analytics actually say.

James Yates

I think there’s a lot of post-mortem potential in the tales of the development and launches of the Sega Saturn and PS3

Dorian Wills

More Punching Weight!! Other than that, maybe some content on old DOS, Amiga, or Commodore games?

Alice Meade

More videos more often. I loved the video on SH2 Historical Society and would love more videos/deep dives like that. I miss your older videos where you would just pick a singular game or topic you wanted to talk about and make a video on it, (like retro throwbacks i.e re:certified classics) or the was it really that bad series. Lastly please please please bring streaming back. I miss your streams on twitch 😭😭

BIG DADDY DRACULA

I second that comment about the SH2 historical society. i love the deep dives. same with the RE8 video. also I had a hacking issue on discord and thus got kicked from several servers for "spamming messages." i fixed the issue but think i got kicked from the discord. who can i talk to about that?
