Austin's Question (answer in the comments):

It's 2023! What do you want to have done by the time the year is over? What do you hope to accomplish? What do you hope to be capable of?

------------------

Thanks very much for your TWO MONTHS of patience. Today on the show, we will talk about THINGS OUTSIDE YOUR FRONT DOOR, a little bit about MY FIRST EVER USERNAMES ON THE INTERNET, a Breath of the Wild related "BLAST FROM THE PAST", as well as answering many other LISTENER QUESTIONS.

Ah, believe it or not it was October of 2022 last time we checked in. Happy new year. 2022 was quite a year for the channel, for me, for us, and for you. I make no promises toward regularity for these going forward, but it's hopefully self evident that I'd prefer they not be so far apart. We'll see what happens.

We've had a lot of new patrons since last time, and I hope you all know how integral and meaningful your support is to me. If not for you all, I am certain that 2022 would've been the last year of my presence on Youtube-- so thanks. Until next time!

Yours,

Any Austin

How old were you when you got glasses, and have your glasses ever been broken in an interesting way?

Project_Cafe

I think I want to redo my wardrobe for 2023. Maybe one outfit a month? I've been rocking a lot of my clothes since high school / early college. I want to change it up a bit.

Listener question - if someone has never heard any Excellent Man From Mineapolis songs before, what one do you recommend they listen to first?

ninby_salter

I want to make 12 paintings by the end of the year--one a month. Thank you for asking this questiong, I'm really bad at defining goals and desires for myself and sometimes all it takes is a good guestion to get you thinking. Also I'm a new patron and want to say thank you endlessly for your work, its putting my brain in good brainspaces!

i spent new years alone for the first time in a very new place but my goal for 2023 is the same as every year - not killing myself, either on purpose or in some silly stupid avoidable accident. if anything else good happens thatll just be a little extra treat. like every year. not a question, but hoping for a good 2023 for you.

Listener Question: Will you ever play "A Toad Well Traveled" again? I'm disappointed in you. The "A Toad Well Traveled" community is disappointed in you. You got past the bass then just gave up. You didn't even make it out of the sewers. I do love you though, keep making content please. -Frog

I'd like to move away from home since graduating at the end of 2022, and take the next steps in making a career in photography.

Austin's Question: I really want to have done some independent film/media programming before the end of this year. I've loved film since I was a kid and have considered so many different approaches to having a career in it, and the one that really feels right and most achievable at this stage of my life is just getting things I think are worthwhile in front of people. I've finally made some friends with experience in this area and I really think with a few of the right moves I could do some events to exhibit short work by people on YouTube and other platforms that otherwise won't really get a shot at having their stuff projected on any kind of screen, let alone a really big one, and I could at least give them a good solid-sized basement art space wall exhibition lol

100% I’m 28, I returned to college a bit ago and will graduate shortly. What’s worse is I plan to move shortly after graduating I am only in town to finish up. So I have a big fear I’ll be isolated when I leave. My only advice I think it’s the best advice even if it isn’t helpful is to just find a place to be often where other people are at and you’ll make friends. It’s just really hard to find that place ya know, a lot of people use their job

Austin's Question: My intention for 2023 is to go through my backlog of side-project things I've already made, put any necessary final touches on them, and actually publish them. My side-projects are mostly software I've written and intend to Open Source, and 3d-printable models I intend to put on Thingiverse. I've always intended to publish them. I've just been too lazy and/or perfectionistic to follow through. Question for Austin: What big company are you most pissed at right now and why?

Toaderdoo

Austin’s question: I hope to become more confident in my art. Drawing is my favorite hobby ever and I’ve been getting much better recently, but haven’t had enough confidence to post a lot of things. Hopefully I’ll be able to kinda get over that this year. Also, happy 2023 to you Austin!

Austin's question: this year my only goal is to actually go to Japan. Was supposed to last year but I let myself be held back, now I'm going to make myself go haha

Horsethe

This year I'm getting fucking JACKED. I lost 20 lbs last year, quit the weed, quit the vape, got a fulfilling job, and went to therapy every single week. This year I'm going to put that 20 lbs back on in muscle. That's my only goal is to get so muscley that people see me and think "that guy can open that jar for me, I wish I had that jar on me"

Patron question for austin: have you ever considered an irl odd and unremarkable places video?

Holden Moffat

By the end of 2023, I want to be a competent youtube creator, no longer overwhelmed

Vinfernalis

I want to experience dating after having ended a 4 year relationship with a guy. I want to accept my love of women in full this year and not let society get in my way of dating women and loving women.

I would really like to produce my first song by the end of '23. I've been trying for a long time now but I lack a lot of motivation and drive. I plan on changing that this year!

Question: What video game music soundtracks have most influenced your own music writing and what video game music soundtracks do you listen to the most frequently?

snom

I'm really hoping to make some new friends and connections this year, finding good friends that mesh with you as an adult is so much harder after college, here's to hoping I can find some cool people in my area

Maybe I should get a bottle of wine and go walk at night too lol (though that might be illegal to do at the same time here, literally 1984) Listener question: what's the biggest impact, positive or negative, that a teacher/instructor/professor has had on you? Austin's question response: this year I want to finally get laser eye surgery. It's hard to find the time and money, but it seems like one of those things that's best to do as early as reasonably possible, you know? Also, still plugging my Blast from the Past from last time, 5:52ish of https://youtu.be/WMNTHsX4bqI ("We got a package full of weird things. AKA Tasting: Danish Snacks - TPPG")

snickersational uwu

Ive been binging your series of TPPG on TPHD i love the part where u diagnose Aisha's Anxiety 😅

austin's question response: i hope to get better about putting away my laundry. typically, i will wash and dry it all, and then i'm left with a huge pile of clean clothes. then, i usually procrastinate putting them away for so long that i end up wearing most of all of it again. then i wash and dry those clothes and have a huge pile of clean laundry AGAIN and the cycle just continues :( for the blast from the past, i think one of my all-time favorite moments of your channel was in part 2 of the eggbusters red blue season finale, around 3 minutes in. i've had my family watch it, i've had my friends watch it, i even made one of my tinder dates watch it. your reaction to links dismembered body still makes me laugh out loud no matter how many times i watch it (and i've watched it a lot)

wyatt

listener question : would you ever bring back the video end cards w/ patreon supporter names ? i always thought they were a nice touch and would fit with the songs at the end of ur vids

i've been making music since I was about 8, 21 years now, and I'm pretty good at it! but my adhd/anxiety/inability to sell myself to creators (game devs primarily) makes it really difficult for me to get jobs. over the next year I wanna work on that hugely and try to get some more work. Also I start a new job in 12 days, not a particularly exciting one, but at my current job I've been pushing the boundaries of what the 'bare minimum' of work I can do is, and I'd like to not do that at my new job and see if I can somehow make myself feel proud of my part in greasing the already very greasy wheel of capitalism. I am fairly sure this isn't possible as a rampant anti-capitalist but considering all I want to do is make music and hang out with dogs I guess I gotta do something to put little bits of bread on the table. also re the vegetarian thing! good work, I was vegetarian for a few years before the cognitive dissonance you sorta covered in this episode started to hit me too hard and I realised not buying meat while supporting for example the egg industry (that I believe kills something like 7 billion chicks a year) just didn't make sense. I too miss sausage and egg mcmuffins every day of my life, and boy do I miss cheese too. did you know cheese has something in called casomorphins? a part of every piece of cheese you eat literally turns into morphine in your body. no wonder it's so hard to kick the cheese habit.

HarmoniChris

I have a number of exciting projects I filmed last year so I'd love to finish each and put them on the channel before the year's end. Also, I would love to get substantially far into recording for my second album. Some compositions have been written, some lyrics are finished, but nothing recorded, so I want to begin that process. I hope to outdo my music from several years ago now that I'm a more capable musician. :)

Sammy Andrews

Listener question: given 25 years, do you think you could eat an entire helicopter?

Emily the Trash Captain

I would like to finish the game project I am working on. Aside from that, I would like to survive.

Tyler Compton

Answer to Austin's question: I'm working on porting an old Flash game that I loved when I was younger, but has become difficult to play these days. I hope that by the end of the year I'll have gotten the project far enough to pitch it to its original creator as a thank you for the memories they gave me!

J_Gretzky

Listener question: what are two skills you wish you had - one for practical reasons, and one that you'd just enjoy personally? In 2023, I'm hoping to invest more time into my personal relationships. I read this recently, and it has really stuck with me: --- One thing that can go a long way: see the people you really like talking to more frequently. This is about more than the obvious point that doing so literally increases the cumulative time you’ll talk to them: When you don’t see someone frequently enough, every time you do hang out ends up being a big catch-up, where both of you update the other on your lives. This doesn’t seem like a problem until you consider that the whole relationship now mostly consists of catching each other up (and reminiscing about old times because you’re not making any new times together). This isn’t actually hanging out. Hanging out means shooting the shit about whatever’s on your mind and exploring new topics together. If I haven’t seen someone in forever and then they’re in town for a week and I see them twice, it’s the second hangout, with the catch-up out of the way, where the more interesting conversation usually happens. austin q: i was recently asked to join my brothers band and i’m really excited i hope by the end of the year i don’t disappoint him and we will be able to play at some venues. i tend to be nervous around people but i’m really optimistic that this is the year i’ll put myself out there viewer question: do you ever reminisce on past points in your life and feel an overwhelming pressure that you will never feel how you did back then even if the present day is better for you physically/emotionally/etc

Josh

I hope Austin didn’t say my name and wish god to bless me because he thinks I’m Josh Groban or Josh Gad or Josh Peck or Josh Brolin. I’m just Josh. But I feel honored to be mentioned alongside the famous Jenny Two-Times.

Jonas Pedersen

Answer to Austin the eggbustershowgoodboyfun's question: I recently got a new job that I don't really like, I'm hoping that by the end of the year I have learned to like it, because getting a new job better suited for my interests and skills doesn't seem feasible right now.
