I am an assisted living caregiver at a home for people with alzheimers and dementia. It's sad sometimes, but there are some bright spots, like a resident who otherwise presents unique challenges letting me one of the only people she'll let take care of her. Or sometimes they'll surprise you with their humor, like this one resident I'll approach and ask if she wants me to take her to bed, and she'll put her hands on my shoulders and go "well, depends on what you mean by that!". Things like resident families and behaviors can be frustrating, but they're mostly nice, and even when residents get upset, the ways that they get upset are in no way ways that someone who doesn't have alz/dementia would get upset, so strangely enough, the act of them getting upset reinforces that it's not their fault. Overall I like it. I work with some good people. I just wish we were better staffed/supplied and corporate was more sympathetic to the amount of responsibilities us caregivers already have.

I'm a UPS courier and have been since right about when my son was born almost 18 years ago. My jobs pretty chill, I just pet people's dogs and bring them stuff they already paid for and listen to podcasts, YouTube, and audio books all day. My wife is a firefighter so culturally that tends to dominate our household. While day to day I'm a UPS guy I consider myself more of a "Fire Wife" at home.

DurtyDeeds 69

I'm an IT analyst and I write technical requirement documents for developers to write their code based off of.

snom

I'm a web developer, I work both on front end and back end development so there's always a lot of work to do.

Horsethe

Late entry for last month's question! I was in a bad place mentally and wanted to post that I hope I could get over my wife and be cool with the divorce. Update! Did it! I get to be a single full time dad and raise some kick ass kids. Also, my kids always call the drown videos the breath holding contest anyways, they get more trauma from kids at school telling shitty ghost stories they see on YouTube.

kate

im a graphic designer and I work at a company that makes fancy signs and kiosks. it's cool sometimes and very dystopian most times. im starting to withhold some of my creative energy & effort so that I have some left at the end of the day for my own projects and hobbies. turns out you can still earn a paycheck without burning out. 5 stars for mediocrity, can't recommend it enough.

Mr F

I'm a disability support worker. I work in a house where five clients live, all of whom have intellectual disabilities. They all have very high support needs needing assistance with basic stuff like showering, toileting, dressing, etc. It's definitely not a glamorous job but I like it most of the time. My previous job was working at a sheet metal factory and I have to say I definitely prefer a job where I'm helping people rather than one that's entirely focused on productivity.

Horsethe

Austins question! I'm a Life Skills Mentor for kids! I basically hang out with 6-17 year Olds and teach them stuff their parents failed at teaching them, usually due to drugs/trauma/neglect. We do everything from emotion regulation, cooking, card games, fortnite, even teeth brushing. There is some kids out there who never stood a chance and thanks to me (and my company) they are on there way to be good people. Fulfilling as fuck.

Austins question! : I am not formally employed (for now) but I do my best to help my mother with her clerical work so she isn’t overwhelmed and try to better my mental health. Kinda like my “jobs” for now, I think

I’m a line cook, I work at a bar/restaurant and I make dumplings and fried chicken mainly as well as shrimp and vegetable rice bowls + fries n shit. It’s a small crew but full of good people who look out for each other. Best job I’ve had in the service industry yet. P.S. I love your content, you remind me of a childhood best friend I don’t get to see much anymore which always warms me up inside so thank you for doin you

Leila O.

I run a secondhand book store for Japanese art reference books. It’s sounds made up but it’s true lol . I also have a tattoo studio with my partner. In the book store, it’s just me so my task lists feel infinite. If I don’t do something, then it’ll never get done and just creates future problems for myself. . But I enjoy the pace and freedom (?) of self employment. The tattoo studio has a few artists and that community is interesting as well, and though management with friends involved can be stressful, overall this time in my life is fun.

I am a pharmacy technician. And I just started a new job at a specialty pharmacy and it’s going great!

Jon

BLAST TO THE PAST: Eggbusters S1 Banjo Kazooie @ 4:20 when Aysha makes scary and painful noises as she exerts Banjo over the fence. Its so funny it kills me a lil bit

Jon

I'm a development tester for Vanguard. More importantly I skateboard, ride dirt bikes and drum in a shitty but awesome garage band

nj

I'm a chemical engineer, which could mean a wide range of things. Right now, I'm a production engineer at a chemical intermediate plant in southwest Louisiana (yes, I love new orleans, but not quite as much as my hometown of philly). I oversee my unit's quality, rate, and efficiency. I only graduated school a year ago and immediately started this role, so it's often overwhelming. But, I find a lot of meaning in my work, and I'm really lucky to be able to say that I love what I do

Thom Coté

I'm a game developer at Iron Galaxy. Most recent projects I can talk about have been assisting Naughty Dog on parts of the Last of Us PC port, and before that we did the Uncharted 4 PC port which I'm very proud of! I also work on my own game in my spare time.

Crying to Radiohead

I don't have a job atm. I study law and I do have a job interview as a student worker at a law firm the 15th, so I'm really looking forward to that and I hope to get the job. They work with a field I find interesting (contracts), so I'm really excited for it.

Joe tuna

Military linguist. I’ve been in a while and I love language and the people I work with but the work is pretty depressing. Lots of computers and white walls and fluorescent lighting.

Martin

Analyst. Making sure everyone is safe and secure! Part of my expertise is studying the growth and development of conspiracy theories.

Joe tuna

What kind of art? Like manga style art or traditional style art? If the latter, what country or state? (Sorry for the questions it’s just such a catch 22 haha)

Joe tuna

Drowning video feedback: For some reason I also had the exact same gut feeling from your last drowning video for some reason. I enjoyed the rest of the videos from that series so maybe the tone was off with that particular one or something? I’m too lazy to re watch it

JRaak

I'm a neuropsychologist. I work with adults and am a generalist within my field but mostly dementia evaluations. I work for a certain US government organization, which leads to lots of interesting and complicated questions, and means I don't have to worry about how folks will pay for their care. That part is pretty great.

ranavain

you're doing god's work, I wish we funded it better too <3

ranavain

<3 <3 <3 Your work is so important, thank you for your service o7

Goobrious

I'm a package handler at my local Fed Ex. I mostly just unload trucks. We extend long conveyor belts into the trucks as we're working and we place the packages on them so they can be loaded into empty trucks that are going to other parts of the country.

TriforceWarrior64

I am a welder/fabricator. Currently I make stainless steel sinks for medical applications. Mostly the ones used by surgeons when they prep for surgery. Not the most exciting job but the shop is clean and air conditioned so I can't complain.

Idiots 101

I'm a software engineer for a finance company that plays matchmaker with large trading firms. I specifically work on the backend, so I write a lot of code that you don't really get to see visual output for, but I love doing it and it pays nicely.

Kira

Austin’s Q: I work in the auto recycling industry as an “IT Operations Engineer”, which is frustratingly close to being in software or DevOps, but… isn’t. I’m kinda good at scripting on old Linux servers though. I work from home and you can absolutely come visit lmao

Kurt Refling

I'm an analyst for the Canadian government. The group I work for gives money to small businesses who have weird, innovative ideas. Day to day, I mostly research laws and regulations, and then summarize that information for the people who make the big decisions.

Kurt Refling

I actually love how specific this is, honestly.

Katie Kebs

I’m a Studio Animator for a YouTube channel called Gametoons. Im in a major creative slump atm but I still have a lot of fun with hand animations where I get to draw frame by frame some sort of action sequence. Fun fact, we get more views within the first 24 hours of an upload than the average SpongeBob episode when it airs. Makes sense nowadays but still cool. I moved to Denver CO for the job, been here 2 years now I know all the best coffee shops so hmu if yer ever here haha

HazelDust

I work part time in data for a national charity here in the UK. 90% of my job is writing code in an archaic scripting language in order to automate putting spreadsheets of data into our database. Occasionally I even get to write a SQL query, those are the fun days. I would be challenged more and have more opportunities outside the charity sector, but knowing that my work directly helps people is motivating to me and I think I'd lose that in another job.

Maxim T.

I'm studying interior architecture and work part time at a small architecture firm, mostly working on the modification of old buildings

Laufix Twalmer

I'm working at the video game company Geometric Interactive, with some of the people behind Limbo and Inside. We're working on a game called Cocoon, it's out soon. Go play it when it is! :)

Bigsicko

Just reached my 1 year mark of being a career firefighter! There's kind of this funny "well, what now?" feeling that has come with completing such a long term goal but I am so incredibly lucky to be in my dream job.

The Bread Pirate

◈ My Response to you reading my Goals from Last Video ◈ NO WAY! It's an honor that you even looked at my channel. My style of narration probably doesn't appeal to you, but your old Eggbusters videos were an inspiration to me, and my latest video about Lookout Landing was inspired by the way you commentate YOUR videos. ◈ Random Comment ◈ I was cleaning my room as you mentioned it in your video. Stop spying on me. ◈ Austin's Question ◈ This year, I became a Full-Time YouTuber. But I also am a substitute teacher for Middle School to 12th Grade. I plan on being a full-time Youtuber until my college loans are paid off.

The Bread Pirate

The Caregiver's album called "Everywhere at the End of Time" opened my eyes to the horrors of dementia. You are an inspiration for doing the work you do on a daily basis.

The Bread Pirate

It never occurred to me that a job in graphic design could feel dystopian.

Novel

The mental visage of Austin, an attractive young lad who looks like he's walked out of an 80's Woody Allen movie, trying to get a tour of an unassuming office building that purposefully lacks any distinguishing features whatsoever; made me spit my coffee out. Austin is like one of those friends that you understand completely because you have known them for so long, but it's still hilarious to see your mom get confused when instead of introducing themselves, they just walk into the kitchen and ask if they have cat food because they want to feed a stray they saw on the way over there.

Kimmett

I'm an industrial mechanic! I fix the machines that make stuff like egg cartons. Super fun job when we're not short-staffed.

Internet Boy

My boring answer is I work in the IT department at a local college. My interesting answer is that I organize and run Smash Bros tournaments weekly, and get people from all over the state. I met the #1 player in Indiana once, that was crazy. I also help run side events, and the locals have formed a pretty close friend group that I’m glad to have helped foster. Since it’s competitive Smash Bros I’m talking about, I’ve even banned a predator!

AntiMS

My job: I'm a software engineer and tech lead "over" (but not in an HR sense) a team of 4.5 other coders at O'Reilly Automotive corporate. I and my whole team (and most devs who work here) work exclusively remotely, which is pretty nice. All in all, I can't complain.

Vinfernalis

I work in a residential setting with emotionally disturbed children. Its a rough, thankless, and often dangerous job that I've poured my literal blood sweat and tears into. But when its rewarding and i see the kids make progress to get home and have a good life, it becomes worth it. For a funny video game essayist, try Ross Scott from the channel accursed farms. He's a classic for me

Martin W.

Austin's question: I'm a therapist/psychologist in Lille (Northern France). Currently I help non-professional caregivers who are in charge of elderly people afflicted with neurodegenerative diseases. They need council, psychological support, administrative help, rest and such. I try to help on most fronts. + it's free of charge, thank god for France's medical care system (sometimes) The singularity of my specific job is that I'm not at my desk most of the time, I spent most of my time on the road to go to caregivers' homes (that they sometimes can't leave cause they're scared their helpee might get in trouble on their own). I'm a travelling therapist, an itinerant psychologist, makes it look kinda cool if you see it that way huh

Martin W.

wow it's my litteral job as a therapist to help (non-professionals) caregivers that take care of people with dementia keep doing what you do, it's brave and important

Aion

I'm a wildlife biology technician! I just left a job in coastal North Carolina collecting data for a wood duck nest box reproductive success survey, which is basically just a lot of looking in artificial nest boxes for wood duck eggs, trying to figure out when they're going to hatch (via candling), and catching the hens to band and the ducklings to tag, among other more general body and habitat measurements. The data collection part of that study just ended, but soon I'll be starting an internship with the same wildlife foundation that'll be similar, but more generalized and varied stuff. Austin's question: what's your go-to ice cream truck order? What do you judge other people for getting? Side note: I've recently been on a huge The 1975 kick for the past half year or so, and I was thinking "it would be funny if he mentioned The 1975" in your answer to what music you've been listening to lately RIGHT before you mentioned Being Funny in a Foreign Language. Spooky

Austin's question: I'm an Electrical Engineer. I work on improving the power grid specifically in the western US even though I live in Michigan. My question: Not really a question, but I would highly recommend a game called "The Beginner's Guide". I would describe it as a pretty meta game that oftentimes intentionally feels very weird. It's built in source and the story is very good as well. It's a quick 2 hour play so low commitment. Would love to hear your thoughts on it someday. Love your content, keep up the good work!

Robert Stammitti

Austin's question: I'm a Library Specialist in the film collection of a university library. I'm the primary point of contact for patrons (faculty, students, other university staff, etc.) who want to borrow a film or otherwise engage with our film collection for instruction, research, personal use, etc. I've been able to exercise some of my own discretion to build out the collection, though I'm not formally a "librarian" and so don't have the same kind of power or pay as someone actually in library collection development, but nonetheless it's something that makes me happy. My previous job was in human services which anyone in that industry can confirm is severely underappreciated and underpaid, so it has been nice to have a job that I neither have to take home with me every day nor dread going to.

Patrick Cooper

I am finishing up my construction management degree this semester and managed to get a few internships. Which hey still know a decent amount about OSHA if you ever think the OSHA inspector video might work out. There’s a guy on tik tok who reminded me a lot of your amusing ramblings, they’re something else but my favorite. I would be super curious if anyone checked it out and saw it at all his names @joellbaby with the bathtub chillin cat

ranavain

Austin's Question: I’m the operations director at a macroeconomic policy nonprofit (actually heard about you for the first time from a coworker). I’m glad you went to the postal museum (one of my favs in the city), but next time you’re coming to DC, hit me up! I’m sure I can connect you with someone at the BLS who can give you a tour (see: my job above). So glad you went with Fatum Betula for the scenery in this one - one of my favorite vids was that $2 video game one! <3

Seth Peacock

I work in a paper science laboratory, doing everything from paper mill audits to helping design packaging (pizza boxes, corrugated shipping boxes, medicine, cosmetics, you name it we design it). The best part is when we have to test boxes with the product in them, and then after testing is done I go home with hundreds of soaps or sodas or doughnuts or whatever. A coworker once got a free Lay-Z-Boy recliner

Model Citizen 3D

I'm a hardware salesman but I'm trying to get into 3d animation

ronny donnyonyae

I work as a policy advisor for an elected official in MN. I’ve been in this field for a while now and I’m definitely looking for a change lol

Daisy's Third Eye

Austin's question: I'm a web developer at a marketing agency! Recently transitioned by doing a coding bootcamp after previously having worked in both education and recruiting. I love to feel like a Super Duper Hacker by hitting "inspect" on web pages and changing how they look :'') Also, I applied to work at Patreon and made it decently far into the process, but got rejected. Maybe one day!!

Leila O.

Mostly traditional Japanese art but I also have manga / anime art books too. Most of my customers are artists (Tattooers / illustrators / designers / etc) so I try to stock books that would be useful for them. And I live in Japan, as that’s where I’m from. ( ◠‿◠ )

Shannon S.

I work as a baker in a French bakery, mostly focused on laminated doughs like hand rolled croissants and palmiers. We also make a ton of macarons! This is my first job in the culinary industry after changing careers and mostly working in manufacturing for a decade up until this point. I’m still adjusting to the early hours but it’s so much more rewarding than precious jobs, and I really care about what we make.

Jack

I'm doing a PhD in AI - basically it's just a bunch of reading and writing in my room, occasionally coding a little bit to try and run some kind of experiment. I'm in the middle of a giant literature review/survey of work on code generation (like, give the AI a task and it writes code for a program to do it). Sometimes I absolutely hate it because I frequently feel like I don't know what to do, the job requirements are broadly defined enough that I can't just "roll up my sleeves and get to work", but also narrow enough that I can't just do literally whatever I want. Other times it's cool, especially when I get into a groove of researching a specific topic and I realize I'm getting paid partly just to learn. After this though man, I don't think I want a creative job ever again. Just tell me what to do and pay me, I'll be creative on my own time/terms.

Will

Howdy partner. Please tell your favorite joke - here is mine. What's Irish and lives on the back porch? Paddy O'Furniture

Wow, I had no idea big-boys.com turned into break.com. At least the banana suit video still exists on eBaum's World: https://www.ebaumsworld.com/videos/banana-suit-fire/572/ Listener question: Have you ever lost something important and figured it was gone forever, only to end up finding it again years later?

Ryan Kearns

I’m an out of work writer for theatre and entertainment journalism desperately seeking employment

listener q: have u ever thought about making another genius-style lyric explanation video? the one u made a while ago is a hidden gem

Blast from the Past Suggestion: Out-of-context One-Time Glitch "Fly around skyrim on an eagle - wontymglich GLITCH 🏰🦅🏰🏰", but specifically at 2:24. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSDmOutZQIA&t=144s Short-form vids have changed me. If this was a short, I would howl

I head tech support and devrel at a software startup. We make client portals, boring. Was a server/bartender/manager for years while also working as an audio engineer, making music and putting out records. Have been obsessed with your channel, you’re one of the funniest people I’ve ever laughed at the jokes of

Jase Andrews

I work as a security guard at a tourist attraction in Hawai'i. We literally don't do anything so I watch your videos at work often, and they actually have inspired me to search for unremarkable and odd places in real life while I'm there. Tourist destinations are kind of the perfect place to find them because sort of like a video game, they are designed specifically for people to walk around and look at stuff, but there are always going to be gaps in the design where no one expected people to go, like weird corners or paths that don't really lead to anything.

Allene Norton

Oh,and I played fatum betlua after watching the video, it is truly a wonderful gem of a game - thanks

You getting your GB pocket and Pokémon Blue via Kool-Aid points is incredibly based.
