Hi Everyone!

Because of various life issues, it's taken me longer to complete the Riedra article than I had hoped; both that and Nobility are huge topics and require a lot of time. I hope I'll have Riedra done today. But I always want to answer more of your questions, so: What do you want to know?

I will post a call for major article topics after Riedra is done. But for now I'm looking for IFAQ topics. Here's things to keep in mind in posing questions:

With IFAQs I want questions I can answer in one to two paragraphs. So you need a clear, concise topic with a specific answer, not something abstract or broad.

Narrow is better. "What's interesting about Thrane" is too broad. "What's interesting about the Argentum" might work.

I'm always going to lean toward topics that feel like they have broad use to multiple campaigns... So something that's VERY narrow ("In my campaign I decided that Halas Tarkanan is coming back in Erandis Vol's body, what would you do with that?") Will probably get passed over.

So: What do you want to know?

Thanks for your support!

What are the attitudes of the Daelkyr and the Dreaming Dark towards one another?

I’ve been converting Eyes of the Lich Queen for 5e, and one thing that made it more difficult than it ought to be was the treatment of Vol. The text seems to quite directly link Vol with the Emerald Claw, and even has Divinity Seekers of the Blood of Vol alongside EC soldiers. In 5e that connection appears to be a secret unknown to all but a very few, and BoV isn’t presented as an antagonist, and very specifically is divorced from EC. Lastly, Vol in 5e (and 4e I think) is believed long dead; the true identity of Lady Illmarrow is very secret. My question is: with a campaign building through the Emerald Claw towards an endgame with Vol, how would the EC and BoV integrate? What methods would they use to conceal their alliance when working to a single goal set by Vol? Lastly, given that the rank and file will know nothing of any “Vol” person, to whom would they attribute such grand continent-spanning efforts as take place in Eyes of the Lich Queen?

How would you use the Crimson Covenant in your Eberron?

Matt Brady

When noting how to incorporate beguilers (who I'd assume you'd represent with arcane tricksters or bards) from 3.5 into Eberron, you mentioned the sheelidar, those blessed by the Dark Six with enchantment and illusion powers, namely in the Shadow Marches and Drooam. However I was under the impression that the Cults of the Dragon Below and the Gatekeepers rule the Marches. I know the Marchers have their own names for some Sovereigns like Balinor (called Baalkan) but is the worship of the Host notable enough in the Marches to where the local wisdom would point to being blessed by the Dark Six with arcane powers?

DGlover

The Silver Flame is a tangible force that you can see and feel. The Sovereign Host has popped up in culture after culture across the world. Compared to the Path of Light and the Blood of Vol (and several others) these faiths seem more ‘real’ in a way. Is it? Does it make a difference, believing in one power or another, when it comes to things like divine magic or intervention? Will an angel answer a Seren Islander if they pray to the dragons?

Who owns the Dreadhold? Kundarak runs it, but they can’t own it as a Dragonmarked House.

How competitive is Valdalis' monopoly when there are so many alternatives? i.e. is grain from a millstone turned by a magebred donkey/ox/gerbil cheaper/better/faster than grain from an elemental-harnessed windmill? Are magebred cat-guts/pork bellies/whalebones objectively better commodities than dragonshard equivalents?

How are embassies and other similar institutions handled? Does Sarlona have one in each of the five nations? Are they being built following the Treaty of Thronehold? How is tourism handled between the nations? Is it just open borders, required paperwork? Are there taxes or trade restrictions as well?

Jan Bernd ten Berg

I would like to have a somewhat broader description of The Wandering Inn. What kind of facilities can you expect in this caravan? Is it like a travelling carnival, but more geared to hospitality? (I can imagine there being a luxurious bathhouse, like in Spirited Away, fed by water and fire elementals.) Is it mainly tents or buildings on wheels?

Matt Brady

In the interests of just getting all my questions out, and hopefully the answer isn't too involved or complicated: Question 1: What are the Marchers trading for on their ship route from Zarash'ak to eastern Tashana's port towns (Secrets of Sarlona pg. 10)? Is it the lichen and scrimshaw of the shifters, the metal work of the Dorann Hold dwarves? More forbidden things from Ohr Kaluun (noted on same page as a destination for westbound ships)? Do these goods show up in Zarash'ak's markets or are they carried on to Stormreach and Sharn? As it's not Lyrander licensed is this an undertaking of the Zil who handle a lot of the Marches trade or of the humans, orcs and half-orcs of the Marches sailing out themselves? Question 2: You mentioned previously that this question should be asked if Riedra or magebreeding came up. The ECS notes the Chosen/Empty Vessels have slight fiendish and elven qualities (pg 290). With Sarlona and Aerenal being quite separate, is this elven quality a result of some magebreeding, selective breeding with traders, or just a way to describe their grace and etheralness? Apologies if these are A) covered in Exploring Eberron in which case I eagerly await reading it, or B) the answer is inconsequential and boils down to "do what makes a good story", which in either case thank you all the same!

In my head canon, some of the refugees that fled Sarlona's eastern shores and wound up on the shores of the Demon Wastes were people being bred/selected for the role of Chosen. I like to think that, tragically, they fled Sarlona to avoid these extraplanar creatures from possessing them, only to land in the Wastes and get possessed by fiends of a different sort. Due the timelines add up for these to be the precursors to the Carrion Tribes? Or were the Tribes there long before the Sundering? If the latter, might there be a strain of Carrion Tribe barbarians that are optimized for fiendish possession because they were bred by the quori for something similar?

What's the climate for each of nations of Khorvaire? I'm working on expanding the culinary information for each nation (I'm running a Sharn game with a character obsessed with food) and it would help me work out what sorts of ingredients each nation has to work with.

What's the status of 'democracy' in nations other than Breland? If I remember correctly, there was some kind of anarcho-capitalist NPC ranting on an Aundairian street-corner in "Five Nations". Were they a one-off, a reference to the French Revolution (lots of people equate Aundair to France, rightly or wrongly), or are there similar agitators in other parts of Khorvaire? Do the Swords of Liberty have allies/supporters/counterparts in other nations?

What's going on with the Dreamspace? It feels like important details on it got cut from SoS? (You've talked about it a few times on the discord but it would be nice to have it more solidly in an article)

What is the position of flumphs in Eberron? Pets kept in Zilargo that secretly spy on the populace for the Trust? The forewarners of daelkyr invasions (like the Silver Surfer)? The Silver Flame’s replacement for the near-extinct couatl? The true masters of the Prophecy?
