Greetings, Patrons!

June has come with a number of unexpected IRL challenges, so I'm not going to have as much time for the site as I would like. However, I'd like to keep going with IFAQs, and with that in mind, I need your questions.

In an ideal world, I would be able to answer everyone's questions every month. In THIS world, it simply isn't possible. But I'll do the best I can. With that in mind, a few things to keep in mind...

Given the volume of questions I receive, I limit myself to answering one question per patron per month, to try to spread my time out as evenly as possible. You can ASK multiple questions, because it may be one is easier for me to answer than another—but if you ask seven questions, I'm only going to answer one of them.

If I can answer a question in 2-3 sentences, I will answer it here. If I can answer a question in 2-3 paragraphs, it may be answered as an IFAQ article, but I only have time to post 1-3 IFAQs per month. If it would take me 2-3 pages to answer a question, odds are good I'm just not going to have time to take it on. So the tighter the focus of your question, the greater the chance I'll be able to answer it. In choosing topics for IFAQ articles, I look for questions that could interest a wide audience or be applicable to many campaigns.

If I have to do significant research to answer the question,  it's probably going to get shelved. A good example of this is "How does the textile industry of Khorvaire work?" It's a great question, but I don't know anything about textiles. So to answer the question, I'd first have to research textiles so I can UNDERSTAND how the industry would be affected by everyday magic. I wish I had the time to do that, but with all my IRL issues I definitely don't this month. So I love questions like this—but the simple fact is that if I need to do an hour of research to properly answer a question, it's not going to happen this month.

If you asked a question didn't get answered in a previous month, you're always welcome to ask it again, though consider how these guidelines apply! There's always good questions I just don't have time to answer.

ALSO: A number of people have reported problems with the website. I have just done a security sweep and resolved a few issues, so hopefully any immediate problems have been dealt with. I am planning a complete overhaul and redesign of the site that will address MANY issues, but I don't know how long it will take to put that plan into action.

Thanks for your support!

-Keith

Can the bearer of a dragonmark magically change the appearance of their mark to make it seem of a different level (least, lesser, greater, siberys) than it actually is or even a different mark entirely?

*ahem* What are a few specific ways the people of Khorvaire and beyond enjoy their potatoes?

The Thrane fashion section is missing from Five Nations—any general ideas on how citizens of Thrane might dress distinctly differently from the other Five Nations? We have some idea of how members of the Church of the Silver Flame might dress, and depictions of clerics like Epitaph which I imagine would apply generally but I'm curious about your thoughts on this.

Eric Christian Berg

Your "Nobility of Galifar" article gave neat little historical summaries of four of the Five Nations prior to their being conquered by Galifar. Aundair doesn't have one and I'd love to hear it.

With the Strixhaven book on the horizon, I’ve been thinking about Eberron’s own magical and mundane universities. What is the day to day life like at Arcanix or Morgrave University? Are they much like American universities, with sports and extracurriculars?

Matt Brady

We know of Sharn's famous Boromar, Daask and Tyrants (and the elusive House Tarkanan) alongside smaller sewer gangs and district specific crime. We know of Kreelo's Dark Dagger Gang in Fairhaven (at least in Five Nations). Presumably in Karrnath and Thrane crime is more subtle due to both nations being . . . exacting, for different reasons. Did Cyre have any notable or famous criminal gangs/organizations? Are they now diffused out into the world among the refugees of New Cyre and the Five Nations, or have they managed to maintain their power? Is it just the Boromar Clan?

If you had to pick a dragonmarked house, which has the most overt ties to Sarlona?

Which of the Keepers of the Flame were nonhuman? Can you give a little blurb about their reign?

How you would suggest to display the implantation of a Siberys drasgonshard in the body of kalashtar/Inspired in a 5e game mechanics? May Khyber or Eberron dragonshards be implanted to receive some benefits?

The Race of the Eight Winds is Sharn's big unifying sporting event. Do other cities or states have something comparable? Is there a transnational sport like football/soccer? Is there a sport cum social activity that gives the thousands of veterans something to do with all their militarized habits, like marching bands or the original purpose of sport shooting associations?

If the chamber was created 4000 years ago, how did the dragons used to deal with the lords of dust if they did not interfere with the prophecy?

Without the islands of dead gods, how do you view the astral sea/plane in Eberron as a setting for an adventure?

Matthew Booth

Which schools/universities in Khorvaire have a house system, most memorably fictionalised in hogwarts, or is that considered unnecessarily dividing in this enlightened post-War age?

Were the day to day operations of the Boromar Clan different during The Last War? Curious if the Boromar would use their influence/reach beyond Sharn to give Breland an edge during this time

Thomas Brøgger

How does the mournland affect the surrounding rivers and lakes? (Lake Cyre and Cyre River)

MajorTotoro

How strictly divided or oppressive do you see Throneport post war? Some descriptions make it sound still very much in a East/West Berlin state, while Forge of War appears to describe it more like open and revitalized with its own United Nations thing.

Does the Silver Flame exist in some physical form? Perhaps as a demiplane?

Do animals/beasts dream? Do people who are petrified, in temporal stasis, frozen in ice in Risia, etc. etc. dream?

Many Eberron races seem touched by the Planes/Demiplanes or even originally spawned from the planes themselves. What races do you consider native to Eberron?

Glauber Rocha

it always intrigued me, if artificers are half casters, how it impacts their spell level in Khorvaire? because to be able to cast 3rd level spells they need to be 9th level and to create more powerful magic items they need to able to cast high-level spells, but the max spell level they can get is 5th level. Do it means that the most powerful magic items are created by wizards, clerics,... others casters?

Snark Knight

Malevanor seems to have genuine faith and sits between Erandis, the Crimson Covenant, and the seeker community. What do you think makes him tick (not literally of course) as an NPC?

Pete Cotton

What time of day did the initial catastrophe of the Day of Mourning occur? I know the mists reached the borders by the end of the day, but how gradual (or instantaneous) was the devastation?

Mariamow

" Every race, monster, spell, and magic item in the Player's Handbook, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Monster Manual has a place somewhere in Eberron, but it might not be the place you expect." Where in Eberron does iconic D&D Artifacts exist? i.e. Axe of the Dwarvish Lords, Book of Vile Darkness, Orbs of Dragonkind, Hand/Eye of Vecna, Wand of Orcus I thought it was really neat how Mordenkainen spells were alluded to be Mordain's past life spells so I thought something similar might fit with these!

Patrick Thompson

What military ranks do the elves of Aerenal adhere to? I know the leader of the Death Guard goes by High Warden, but are there any other titles and ranks of note within the different military factions?

Theodore Kramer

Do Sentinel Marshals "retire" in the same way a normal bounty hunter/law officer might? Would a Sentinel Marshal who (after a period of service) no longer wants to chase down Treaty of Thronehold violators/war criminals be allowed to leave that role without a hassle? Are there ex-Marshals holding administrative/command/"desk" jobs within House Deneith, or settled down with a family and a pension? Or is it the kind of position you're expected to hold until you physically cannot continue to do so?

GhostOfEternalTime

How do you suggest converting Savage Tide to Eberron? The Adventure Path conversion notes only went to #4, and I'm in particular curious about how you'd handle the layers of the Abyss and place the various planar cast members.

Hey, Keith!! I bought Rising From the Last War about a year ago, and since then Eberron has quickly become my favorite campaign setting ever! I was talking to my friends and trying to figure out what my first question should be now that I’m a Patron, and my friend Mizi, who adores changelings, suggested one I liked. They are wondering how gender and sex of changelings work. Are they born with a specific sex in their true form, or do they decide that for themselves as they mature? Also, what is changeling culture’s relationship with our concept of gender? Sorry if that’s a little broad 😅

Hi Keith! Have a couple of questions about Blood of Vol. 1. From what i figured, in most of 5 nations BoV is organized as a series of independent covert cults without clear connection/hierarchy between them. How does Crimson Covenant or Lady herself find / get in contact with those cults? Or they only act trough Emerald Claw cells and don't care about other, less fanatical "cults"? 2. I liked idea with Crimson covenant being influenced by Lady, but not under full control, but is it even possible to move it out of her influence without outright destroying/killing most of the liches/mummies which are loyal to her? 3. BoV is a religion that values basically faith in your inner self, it seems there would not be much of value to BoV cleric besides own life (and maybe life of others). What would BoV cleric refer to as "sacred"? Does this notion even apply to BoV? Any of them answered will help, thanks a lot!
