It's a new month and time for new questions. In an ideal world, I'd be able to answer everyone's questions every month. In THIS world, this simply isn't possible. For those who are new to the IFAQ process, here's how it works.

Given the volume of questions I receive, I limit myself to answering one question per patron per month, to try to spread my time out as evenly as possible. You can ASK multiple questions, because it may be one is easier for me to answer than another—but if you ask seven questions, I'm only going to answer one of them.

If I can answer a question in 2-3 sentences, I will answer it here (as a reply to your comment). If I can answer a question in 2-3 paragraphs, it may be answered as an IFAQ article, but I only have time to post 1-3 IFAQs per month. If it would take 2-3 pages to answer the question, that's a Dragonshard article and I can only do one or two of those a month. I am going to do a poll this month, allowing Patrons to vote on which longer topic becomes a Dragonshard. So you can ask longer questions, but keep in mind that only the most popular one will get answered1

If I would have to do significant research to answer a question, that increases its effective size. It may be that the question only takes a few sentences to answer—but if I'd have to do two hours of research and contemplation to answer it, it's going toget passed over.

If you asked a question didn't get answered in a previous month, you're always welcome to ask it again, though consider how these guidelines apply! There's always good questions I just don't have time to answer.

As always, thanks for your support!

Hey Keith! How do the Aereni and Tairnadal view the Sovereign Host/Six? They clearly have their own system of worship separate from the Host, but do they still believe in the Host but not worship them? Or do they believe the Host does not exist at all? Is their interpretation colored by the giant's brand of worship at all?

Insomuch as devils, demons, and yugoloths each have concrete mechanical similarities (e.g. devils are generally immune to fire), what distinguishes the origins and behavior of Khyberian devils, demons, and yugoloths?

Does the Plane of Shadow exists in Eberron, and if so, does it have anything to do with the Court of Shadows' shadow kingdom?

What are some defining characteristics of Yrlag, the town in the north of the Shadow Marches? All we know about it from canon is that it supplies the Tharashk outpost in the Demon Wastes, but it's at an interesting crossroads; the Twilight Demesne, the Byeshk Mountains, and the Crawling Swamp are all nearby.

Do members of the Blood of Vol have some way to stop zombies from decomposing? I get that they wouldn't mind having them around, but I also assume they wouldn't be thrilled to be surrounded by rotting corpses all the time.

Do you have any specific thoughts on what Kethelrax the Cunning and his kobold/goblin followers in Shaarat Kol might be like as a group?

What was your inspiration for the name "The Kind," and how did the character earn this title or nickname in your Kanon? I only know it was given to him by Gyrnar Shult (I think).

In the spirit of the upcoming PAXU... in our world big conferences and conventions gather together people from around to share ideas and thoughts and items — and that hardly is a new idea. What sort of big get-togethers like this exist in Eberron?

Is there crime in Seeker towns and villages? Obviously it's impossible to rid human nature from any built up area but since the overall theme of the Blood of Vol seems to be "we only have each other/self-improvement" at it's most altruistic (my love of this particular faith might be skewing my view though), I wonder if the usual trigger for crime (lack of resources/access and a submarket growing to fill need) exists in a community that's living very community minded. This sprung up because a player of mine wanted to know if there was prostitution outside the Five Nations (previous question looooong time ago by me got the answer that within the Five Nations, the criminal element handles it, ie Tyrants in Sharn) namely for Gatherhold. But I figure the larger question is are there sufficient criminal elements in rural Khorvaire, and the only group I could think of that I'm not sure would have some were the Seekers

Given the amazing Barren Sea dragonshard I'd love another article on any of the other seas (except the Thunder Sea ofc, we have a decent amount of information for that). Pick whichever you want!:)

In the spirit of spooky season, are jack-o-lanterns and/or pumpkin (or turnip etc) carving a custom anywhere in Eberron?

The Shadow is said to be the literal shadow of Aureon that attained sentience. Did this entity of Aureon before this separation, the Aureon-with-evil-still-in-him, have any followers/doctrines/beliefs around him? If so, do any remain still today?

Zed Bundershot

What sort of relations might it interest you for Q'barra & the Mror Holds to have? I figure there's got to be at least one group on either side that sees a material/spiritual value to pursue on the other side. Perhaps not necessarily nation to nation, but perhaps clan to faction?

DivertedCircle

You've stated before that you 'have a 10,000 word backdrop on Dral Khatuur and her prison in the Frostfell' and that you'd maybe release it on the DM's Guild once Eberron was unlocked. Any plans to do so? Does this detail how Dral Khatuur being trapped in the Frostfell ties in with cannon sources that say Levistus is the overlord trapped there?

Caelan Scott

If I am correct then the draconic prophecy manifests as a series of if-then statements which factions like the Lords of Dust and the Chamber manipulate for desired results. However, on page 157 of ExE you say that a marut can intervene in a resurrection if the resurrection "defied the prophecy." How would defying the prophecy work if it is just works not so much as predicting the future, but shaping it through specific events. What does one have to do to create cause for a Marut to intervene?

Thomas Brøgger

Hi Keith! A while back you wrote a dragonmark article about starting a campaign i Q’Barra. I really enjoyed it and it got me thinking about other places in Eberron that would be ideal for supporting an entire campaign besides Sharn and Stormreach. I know this is not exactly a question but I would love some articles like the one about Q’Barra with campaign themes and plot hooks about other places in Eberron.

Can you give examples of the different architecture styles of the Five Nations, as well as Droaam and Darguun? Thanks.

Tim Edwards

How suspicious are the major nations of Riedra beyond what you'd usually expect of a nation looking at another nation whose intentions you're not fully sure of? Are there any nations where the 'usual' opinion is drastically different? I could see Karrnath being more positive because of the support received during the war, or Droaam being more suspicious due to the Daughters possibly having more of an idea of what's really going on . . .

If the players found a way into Dal Quor, and took the fight to Tirashana in her home plane, where might they find her? Some kind of lair within Dal Quor.

I was incredibly intrigued by the concept of the Archduchy of Atur – could you elaborate on what makes it stand out? Who rules it? What's the cultural significance that made it into a palatine instead of a regular duchy? What laws makes it stand out from the Code of Gaius/Galifar? Love from Sweden and a new Seeker in the Inner Circle! ❤

Either: It has been said in previous articles that the Aereni and Tairnadal have next to no idea about the elven ties to Thelanis. But how about Phiarlan? Apart from their historical role as lorekeepers as far back as the elven uprising, they have relatives in Taer Syraen, the Winter Citadel. In the Fading Dream, the inhabitants of the feyspires still remember the original assault on the City of Silver and Bone by Cul'sir and the disastrous counterstrike by Shan Doresh, or at least their lords do (as per your novel, The Fading Dream). Or I believe it was mentioned somewhere that many of Khorvaire’s cities are built on manifest zones. We know Sharn stands on one connected to Syrannia and Flamekeep has ties to Irian. Atur is in a Mabaran zone. What about the other capitals - Fairhaven (Thelanis?), Korth, Metrol, and Wroat? What about other important cities? Is Rekkenmark tied to Shavarath? Varna to Lamannia? Sigilstar to Syrannia, but influenced by its knowledge, tolerance, and view of the skies, rather than flight? Thanks, as always!

Hi Keith! How would you introduce mechs - big robots controlled by people - in the 5 Nations or Riedra? Thanks!

Where do the Demodands (the native inhabitants of Carceri) tend to originate from in Eberron and what do they represent?

Andres Olan-Vazquez

How does the Arcane Congress operate? You've mentioned before that it's formed by united wizard circles such as the Arcane Order of Aureon and the Guild of Moonlight and Whispers among others, and that Princess Aundair was instrumental in getting the lesser circles to put their feuds aside with the greater ones so they might unite, and that said feuds continue to this day but "are conducted within the confines of the Congress." Is the Arcane Congress similar to a company, with something akin to a board of directors with members from each circle, where they choose what joint project the think tank will focus on? Or is it more like a parliament with representatives from the circles vying for their order's projects to get more attention and funding from the governing body than the others?

Haven't managed to find a lot of info about a wayfinder foundation, it seems to me the that it was designed as a "big buys club", something adventurers may aspire to be part of. What is intended "power level" of individuals withing the foundation and foundation by itself? From what i figured it seems like adventurers there are in a 5-10 class level range. Is that correct? Also, what differs it from lets say, Clifftop? Is it designed as Morgrave best relic hunters wing, or they just work together, trading in artifacts and knowledge? Thanks!

Jamie Bernstein

Have the Feyspires historically moved location in Eberron depending on their narrative? if so, where might they have appeared in the past?

Ben

Targath doesn't get much mention after being floated as a resource for periapts of health, reducing the risk of disease, and as a weapon against deathless in ECS. Since it's a resource found in Northern Argonnessen do you have any thoughts for ways the dragons, Seren, and dragonborn could make use of targath for both benign purposes and as a weapon?

So, as too late in the month, I will just do one: Do you think there is a way of keep most of Kanon lore and adapt Out of the Abyss? Keeping Kuo-toa (great concept by the way, I just read yesterday and love it) in barren sea, deep gnomes in his city (probably underground of Lorghallen), Akiak as duergar, etc... With in the end they left there in Mror Holds. I feel that could be done playing with manisfest zones and khyber, but I feel that no plot really can work with all places together. Would be strange all places have a notion of the existence of the others. Probably too big for here, but I was thinking about it since I read the Barren Sea post yesterday.

Asmuz

Yes, there is. And this is not really necessary read all the story. So, you maybe you think is fun I said in this way, but it is the Underdark the specific element that I needed. A specific place, where you can have some cities of strange races in a dangerous place where the sun never arises. I can and would be a fun adventure you know use a approach City A ---- Manisfest Zone or Khybers ---> City B, but I feel that this would make the adventure random. You know, the cities of the story knows that the others exist and have some conections. War, trade, imigrants, etc... A Lorgallen underground city knowing how you can go to a Akiak city (trying adapt the deep gnome and duergar cities there) sounds a really strange to me. But without this element, a place where things know each other and where there is bad things sealed, I feel that the sandbox element would be lost and would be a really linear random adventure (what can be nice, but I like sandbox more). In general people worry more about what is the demon lords, but I feel that daelkyr, overlords or just make demon lords a new thing could all work fine. But the localization, a place where there is strange cities connected underground and dangerous monsters, the underdark, not work so well adapting to Eberron. In general the underground places in Eberron looks like a more direct fight (drows against aberrants, dwarves against aberrants, etc...), no so much a society. But as I said, maybe is too big for here. Thanks, Keith!

Will Buck

Where would you put cyclopes in your Eberron?
