Life continues to be challenging. As a result, I am still working on the Mockery article chosen in October. While that will be posted soon, in the meantime, I want to give you all a chance to ask new short questions. In other developments, I'll be at PAX Unplugged next month and participating in a few events, as called out in this article.

For those who are new to the IFAQ process, here's how it works. first of all, I answer as many questions as I can, but with the number of questions I receive I often don't have time to answer all. Beyond that...

Given the volume of questions I receive, I limit myself to answering one question per patron per month, to try to spread my time out as evenly as possible. You can ASK multiple questions, because it may be one is easier for me to answer than another—but if you ask seven questions, I'm only going to answer one of them.

If I can answer a question in 2-3 sentences, I will answer it here (as a reply to your comment). If I can answer a question in 2-3 paragraphs, it may be answered as an IFAQ article, but I only have time to post 1-3 IFAQs per month. If it would take 2-3 pages to answer the question, that's a Dragonshard article—and I'm already behind in my article queue. So in short, the longer and more complicated the question, the lower the chance that I'll have time to answer it.

If I would have to do significant research to answer a question, that increases its effective size. It may be that the question only takes a few sentences to answer—but if I'd have to do two hours of research and contemplation to answer it, it's going to get passed over.

If you asked a question didn't get answered in a previous month, you're always welcome to ask it again, though consider how these guidelines apply! There's always good questions I just don't have time to answer.

As always, thanks for your support!

PCs can often end up getting incredibly rich by the "normal" standards of the world, sometimes still wandering around as a bunch of itinerant eccentrics, hoarding incredible wealth. Avoiding the trope of punishing characters for getting rich, what suggestions would you have for interesting, "Eberonn-y" ways of encouraging them to spend or use that money if the PCs aren't coming up with any themselves?

Could you tell us an interesting detail about Yrlag in the Shadow Marches? Alternatively, where do cyclopes fit into your Eberron?

Matt Brady

Walking into the parts of Khorvaire where Thurrani has presence over Phiarlan, is there any notable difference in "feel" or "theme" between the two Shadow Houses' theatres and dance halls?

D&D 4e placed the likes of Zenobaal well within the reach of a max-level or near-max-level party. Do you think a 20th-level party in other editions (e.g. 3.5, 5e) should be able to topple the likes of top-end Argonnessen dragons like Zenobaal? A CR 36 (in 3.5) giga-dragon is not particularly usable in most games, unfortunately. Would Zenobaal and dragons of a similar tier be "merely" chromatic/metallic greatwyrms in 5e?

A pretty niche one this month: Is the Umbra that the Umbragen drow draw power from the same power that is trapped in the Heart of Siberys? They're both described as power sources created by the souls of the Qabalrin, but to my knowledge it's never directly stated if they're the same or not.

Can Mabar consume fragments of Irian?

Alternatively, my friend wants to know with harems/polyamory common among the nobles, does that extend to the merchant and lower classes? The usual limiter of needing to provide for your spouse(s) dulls slightly in an egalitarian society where they aren't complete dependents. I understand if this is too research heavy to answer though

Since the Daughter of Khyber seems to be the representative of Tiamat in the Eberron setting, is there an equivalent representative for Bahamut? And if so, would they be more affiliated with Eberron or with Siberys?

Eric Christian Berg

Your article on noble titles was very useful. I don't suppose you'd be up for doing a similar rundown of military ranks?

What is the favorite fruit of every nation?

While the most famous city with a manifest zone is Sharn, what other cities hold manifest zones inside of them in your Eberron? Are most cities built up around manifest zones, or is it the rarity?

What is the state of druidry in Khorvaire when the Sarlonans settlers/refugees arrive? Is it mostly found in the west where the Gatekeepers mostly were? Or did the war against the Daelkyr take the orcs eastward and techniques in druidry were passed on to halflings and goblins? Curious if the sources of magic available were limited to adepts/clerics and sorcerers (while the externalists had to learn Siberyan magic) or if druids were around in eastern Khorvaire at that time.

If "taer" means fortress or citadel, "shae" means city, and "pylas" means port in elven/sylvan, what would the elven/slyvan word for "ruin" be? I would guess ruins would exist in Thelanis because stories frequently feature ruins. Perhaps like Mabar's Amaranthine City they were *always* ruins, but their stories would revolve around them having once been whole but aren't any longer. But what do elves/fey call such places?

We have the answer to Bustles VS crinolines. But what about our dapper gents? Neckties VS Cravat? Flatcaps, bowlers, stovepipe/tops? Robes VS waistcoats/westkits/vests?

Jarrod Taylor

Who are the ruling archfey of the Palace of the Moon in Thelanis? Are there only Four seasonal paragons, or does the story of the Court(s) call for a rotating cast of fey nobles hosting galas?

In addition to Gargoyles, what other Native Elementals exist in Eberron?

As for The Pact... The Devourer will storm the polls!

With the new UA that just came out introducing a ton of monstrous races, I've been wondering: what do you think sets apart the Thri-Kreen of Eberron from the typical Thri-Kreen you'd see in the Monster Manual?

I'm looking forward to the upcoming "Strixhaven : Curriculum of Chaos" book being released by WotC. For context, it takes place on a magical university campus established by five founder dragons and has a house structure similar to Harry Potter. I'm considering adapting parts of the book to fit within Eberron, specifically with the Floating Towers of Arcanix. Any thoughts on an adaptation like this? Additionally, in the world where Strixhaven is set there are environmental anomalies that occur called Snarls, which is an area where two sources of magic converge. This had me wondering if its already been established if Manifest Zones ever overlap with one another, perhaps even merge?

Hey, Keith! 1.What is the mystery of Tolanen? 2.Thoughts about a pirate campaign on Lhaazar Sea. 3.Any love to Lorghalen 4.How Elemental Galleons work on kanon. 5.Halflings and Karrnathi culture, or how singular are the halfling culture in Karrnathi, mostly the southern parts. 6.More about the monk order from Zilargo.

Prince Kolberkon of the Diresharks was left out of your classic The Lhazaar Principalities Part 2 dragonshard where we learned about most of the Princes. In Player's Guide to Eberron we learned he is a changeling, my question is do you think Kolberkon's race is known or something he keeps hidden behind personas?

Do you have any thoughts on why the Giants didn't expand more beyond Xen'drik during the height of their power? Secrets of Sarlona mentions giant explorers leaving a legacy with the half-giants and eneko, but beyond that there doesn't seem to be much canon evidence they established anything substantial beyond their continent.

How do the Aereni and Tairnadal view the Sovereign Host/Six? They clearly have their own system of worship separate from the Host, but that doesn't necessarily preclude belief in them. Or it could. If they do believe, their interpretation could be colored by their oppression by the giants.

Is Kotharel the Harvester (the 30 HD radiant idol locked up in Dreadhold per the Dragon 344 Web Supplement) being captured in a battle that "shook the foundations of Metrol" indicative of some kind of Syranian manifest zone in Metrol? Or is that meant as a figure of speech? https://paizo.com/dragonissues/344/DR344_Supplement.pdf

Previous articles stated that the Aereni and Tairnadal have next to no idea that elves are originally from Thelanis. But how about Phiarlan? Apart from their role as lorekeepers as far back as the elven uprising, they have relatives in Taer Syraen, the Winter Citadel. In the Fading Dream, the inhabitants of the feyspires still remember the original assault on the City of Silver and Bone by Cul'sir and the disastrous counterstrike by Shan Doresh. At least their lords do (as per The Fading Dream). So, what do the Phiarlan remember? Also on the Phiarlan: is the use of the names of incorporeal undead for the ranks of the Serpentine Table and the Shadow Network based on something deeper than simply suggesting stealth? Does the translation 'spirit keepers' allude to spirits as in undead lingering on the material as well as spirits as in morale? Could the leaders of the Serpentine Table be actual ghosts? Also, I am still interested in major cities of Khorvaire sited in manifest zones. I know this was put up in the last poll as an option for a large article, so I don't expect the question to be addressed here, but I wanted to keep it out here.

Dal Quor means the Region of Dreams in Quor. What does the other planes mean, and in which language?

Jamie Bernstein

While (nearly) all the current canon Feyspires are currently in Khorvaire, did they appear in different places throughout history wherever it would 'fit the narrative?' Or is it more that there are Feyspires in other continents that the people of khorvaire just don't really know about yet?

Hey, I just subscribed but can't access the Discord. Could I get assistance via a DM to try to access the discord?

1. How would you adapt quorbred and quorbound creatures to 5e? 2. Is golem creation possible by modern House Cannith or is it some ancient lost magic? 3. Can one Overlord have different fiend types (devil, demon and yugoloths) minions or do only use one type exclusively? Could a Devil and Demon that serve same Overlord work together despite their different natures?

Whether you imagine Rhashaak as the latest in a line of wardens keeping Masvirik contained, or the only guardian, nigh eternally bound to their role in Haka'torvhak, what qualities would a PC need to demonstrate, to successfully replace Rhashaak; voluntarily or otherwise?

Hello Keith! In your Eberron, a Warforged can be cursed by lycantropy? If yes, its animal / hybrid form is "blood and fur" or "wood and metal" ? About the moons, each moon of Eberron can influence the transformation or only some of them? There is a limit in number of nights per month in which the transformation occurs? Thanks!

I’ve been trying to get a hold on where the lines are for the Zil. It feels like there’s an intentional tension between the Trust keeping Zilargo free of crime and violence, and the average Zil citizens constantly scheming to accomplish their goals in moral and immoral ways. It feels like the mark of a successful Zil is to defeat their rivals while keeping in the bounds set by the Trust. So I’m trying to get a hold on those lines. Violence is over the line, but is all crime unacceptable? Can a Zil citizen independent of the Trust break/sneak into a house? Can they steal? Forge a contract? Blackmail a rival? Extortion? Use of enchantment magic to dominate? Illusion to deceive? I've been working on the assumption that certain non-destructive actions that we would consider crimes are in bounds, and I've been developing a set of lines, but before I finalize them I wanted to ask. Thank you!

Joseph Meehan

Where do Moonstone dragons, from Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, fit in your Eberron? They've got ties to both Fey and Dreams, two of your favorite things.

WebbRosson

In your opinion, would illithids allied with Dyrrn or other daelkyr live in the colony structure similar to mind flayers in other settings? Is Dyrrn simply one step above the Elder Brain, or is the dynamic completely different?

In the Fernia section of Rising, it mentions "Efreeti pashas fiendish satraps rule city-islands of obsdian that drift atop seas of magma", But in Exploring there's no mention of those "Fiendish satrap". What is their role in Fernia, and what's their relationship with the efreeti and the other fiends? I know exploring mentions Fiends that embody the destruction of with fire, but none of it seems to imply they hold land as much as the efreeti or being organized to the point of being able to control entire islands in the sea of fire

It was so hard picking just one question. Here goes! What might an Argonessen-based dragon say to a Q'barra-based dragonborn character when asked "Why did you leave us to our fate? For thousands of years we have had to mop up what comes out of Hakatorvhak. We've been fighting this losing battle for generations. Why haven't you come to help us?! We worshipped you, we died for you, and you left us!!!" I've got a dragonborn player who has rejected the Q'barran lifestyle and vows to confront/slay a dragon out of pure spite.

Not Mordakhesh

My second question that I'm in no massive rush for an answer to, what might the Inspired be up to in Q'barra? It seems that if the DD wanted to sucker in more people to serving their cause, they'd invent something more Khorvaire specific that would resonate with the Cyran refugees etc, not export the path of Inspiration. So if it isn't converts they're trying to win over, what is the Dreaming Dark's interest in Q'barra?

I'd love to hear more about how the different schools work, but especially the Five Demesnes. Do they only go 4 years? Do longer lived races like Elves go when they are physically and mentally "adults" around the same time as humans or when they become Elven adults at 100 or so? What kind of proof of graduation is there? I assume they don't carry around diplomas, so are there class ring-like objects? Those are the more specific questions, but expanding more in general on Arcanix, Morgrave, the Korranberg library colleges, the Demesnes, etc. would be fascinating.
