Ye it is a little recycled, but the show will pick up with more original and higher quality very soon. I think this was very much filler for sure, but I do like finding out more about Gius. The show also gets blessed with a much higher budget soon too. As that cgi for the manticore was pretty rough haha

Poor Gaius. The man just can't catch a break. Also lmao at 2:12. One of the best things about the Merlin reactions is how much you have it in for Morgana.

Glad I'm not the only one exasperated at the unrelenting recycled plots episode to episode. That's my only real gripe about the show. They do regularly stick the landing, with the final act often being the best part of an episode. I'm wanting a whole lot more than the show is giving me atm.

Maybe it's just me, but I find certain British shows seem to get comfortable with their formula. As if achieving and maintaining a certain status quo is the showrunner's goal, and they just tell stories that don't alter that status quo. Can you imagine if X-Files or SG1 or Buffy simply maintained their S1 dynamics without changing anything in a major way? It'd get old fast.

Yeah, Merlin is kind of infamous for treading water for far longer than they needed to or should have. But it's so charming otherwise

We always referred to her and Morgause as Pinky and the Brain when I watched the first time. "The same thing we do every night!"
