After Elena stated her intention to leave, I got to consider a whole lot of possible changes for the future of SSS.

Some of them were not possible to make due to Elena's workload and time constraints, but starting fresh with a new artists, a few things are on my mind:

Color: It's been pointed out to me by another creator before - making a greyscale comic is not very "2023". Color is a possibility to consider and would liven up the comic.

Panels: I have enjoyed writing in four panel strips so far, but it is also very constricting. Sometimes it's -really- hard to get all the information into four panels and there is always a consideration of moving the plot vs punch. Do I try to move the plot quicker? Do I make sure the punchline lands? A way I have seen other cartoonists do this is to release half a comics page, which can consists of 4-8 panels. Put them together and it's also "nicer" for a print run.

Would you enjoy those changes? Let me know in the comments!

Note that all these things are just considerations and a lot will depend on which artists will answer the call, what their time constraints are and what pricing is on the table.

I want to land an artists with whom I can have a good connection and also ensuring that there is a good sustainability. I don't want to be on the lookout again within a year!

I honestly prefer greyscale drawings, but I wouldn't be opposed to color. I also understand, since I used to draw a lot of greyscale in the past, that using color takes a very different art approach and would also likely take longer. I also would totally be behind the idea of longer comics. I think closer to 8 would be better. Most of my favorite comics use longer formats than 4, but I also like the shorter style. If you find it restricting, though, I think you should do what's best to tell the story you want to.

I like the greyscale and the clear lines, that's one of the things drawing my attention in the beginning, especially because most web comics are in color. But my taste may not be quite representative. About the length, I'm totally indifferent.

I think color is going to heavily depend on the artist. The greyscale works really well with Elena's style, but maybe a new artist's will work better in color, and their workflow is more accustomed to color as well. This would be hard to call ahead of time! As for the length, that does sound like a limitation you're feeling boxed in by, so if you want to experiment with expanding to 8-panel, that might be a good idea, or even just leaving the option open for yourself for when you feel you need it.

Color for the sake of color is not a winning idea in my book. The artist's ability to convey the story is far more important. For example, look at Ansel Adams' grayscale photos and compare them to color photos of the same subjects. His convey a sense of majesty and timelessness far better than a typical tourist shot. Many other webcomics I follow do not have a fixed number of panels per page and they are often not all rectangular either, number, size, and shape vary depending on how best to tell the story. SSS is a really good comic so do whatever you think best to convey the story you want to tell.

It's going to depend upon the agreed workflow. One person doing pencils, inks, and color is going to be time consuming although simple layouts will help with a lot of that. I think color helps tell the story but, after all is said and done, it's just one piece of telling the story - and it needs to make sense from a money stand point.

Please don't go with the endlessly scrolling style we see in so many Japanese and Korean comics. They tend to filler for the sake of filler and difficulty getting things on-screen for different devices. Use however many frames you need in the arrangement that works best to get your point across. With color so much depends on the chosen palette
