Phew, luckily making this sped up once the Allies hit the beach and I could start relying more on maps! Trying to find the right imagery for the right thing and changing subjects multiple times a minute is a right pain.

Not that I'm 100% happy with the map I ended up using: it's the best I could find, but still a bit low res. I did try making a copy, but it just wasn't worth it.

At least the next video in the line-up should be a quick editor one, which should get me back on track, right on time for the week after to derail things again.Anyway, enjoy part of D-Day that you may well have never heard of! I'm going to go and crash.

Very well done and instructive. Would be interesting to see the difference between British landings and American landings on Omaha. These small unit accounts give a great snapshot of the ordinary soldier and the visceral bloodshed of war. Thank you.

Gotta say, I like these analysis vids as much as I do the ones showing a day in the life of a pixeltruppen

Thanks very much! I think all the landings faced tough challenges- certainly these were greater on Omaha for a variety of reasons, but at the micro level a lot of soldiers across the assault force spent plenty of time trapped under fire, unable to get off the beach.

Good to hear! It's certainly a nice break for me from CM'ing it up all the time.

Thanks Hapless, very informative vid. I've been trying to think of a way of (digitally) wargaming the sort of planning you describe. The best I can come up with is Command Ops 2 - do you have any other suggestions?

I honestly don't know (mostly because my digital wargaming experience is pretty much confined to CM- not sure there's space in my head for much else these days). I think in a lot of ways the depth of planning (and thus follow-on reaction) somewhat defies digitisation- best running it past a human.
