Slightly belated, but it's here! I was intending to enjoy the sunshine today (it's weird and we don't know how to react to it in the UK) but thought I'd get a bit of the footage done and ended up getting so deep in image tabs and map layers it was going to be more work in the long run to start again.

Nothing too complex though, there's really a minimum of fighting in this one because we're setting the scene for the British to arrive, but there's some really interesting political... action? Intrigue? Manoeuvring? Not sure what to call it, but it's been pretty tough not giving the old royalty of Spain and Portugal a hard time.

Hopefully the maps are ok- I'm always working on them at 100% zoom, which is a habit I need to break because I doubt most people watch the videos fullscreen.

But anyway, fingers crossed the sun stays out tomorrow and I can take a quick break before putting those German Grenadiers through their paces...

Ok, it was gone for me too, now it's back. No idea what's going on there. I'll keep an eye on it.

While vacationing in Portugal in 2024 I was impressed by the (still) very strong pro-British sentiment among the Portuguese people, thankful for the British helping defeat invaders of Portugal not just once, but twice. I was even more impressed that the British aided the Portuguese the 2nd time to honor a then >400 year old defense treaty. That treaty was signed in the 14th century after Spanish invaders were defeated. It had been feared that the Spanish might again try to invade Portugal. It turned out that the next invaders would actually be French, but hey … a treaty is a treaty, even if it’s 400+ years old.

Yeah, it's popularly known as the UK's longest term alliance. Not sure if that's accurate, but it sounds like it
