In the end, I just couldn't leave this alone. Trying to piece together a "sum-up and where we go from here" kind of video just wasn't working and I know I'm not the only one who wants to see how the Italians might do without the mortar support... so here we are.

I have put together a test scenario for Combat Mission Cold War. That's got a lot more variation in AI plans and should be more 'resilient' to repeated playthroughs, but we'll see how that goes. (Also tanks. Everyone loves tanks).

Obviously going for the non-edited format has freed this week up a little bit, so I've been working on the next Micro Unit Guide. 'E' for Elefant is ready to go for next week, so I've been looking into 'F' for Fennek. Or 'Strider' if you're an ARMA 3 fan.

All that adds up to a free week next week, so I might actually have some kind of holiday. We'll see.

Thanks for doing this, you took less casualty's this time round than last time by 5. But I think they did quite well. It was very interesting. Good luck on fixing the bugs and moving on to different Combat Mission's.

You've been very lucky. My one playthrough on this map in the campaign, there were minefields that I ran into pushing up the right side.

Italian SOF in action! I mean, firepower when orientated and directed en masse is awesome, regardless of the details of WWII firearms. And, intimate knowledge of enemy deployments and of the battle space, makes for lightning maneuvers. The whole idea of a company test is interesting, but it needs to be qualified with the understanding that some WWII militaries didn't subscribe to the idea of tactical initiative/independence. Not per se. Such militaries would view a company as a part to a superior plan. You can cookie cut out that company from that plan and make a scenario out of it for gaming purposes, but it might help to note that any conclusions drawn need to be weighted with those historical realities. In fact, that might be a cool direction to take this :)

I took the mines out when I tweaked the base scenario, so I cheated. In CM, there's basically nothing the pixeltruppen can do about mines so they'd just be a luck based bad-day factor

I lost more pixeltruppen to mines than enemy fire 🙄

Italians did very well indeed. A crude force comparison pits 132 of them versus 60 defenders, a 2.2x ratio. Less than the prescribed 3.0x, and no supporting arms, so yeah, the Italian Company CO should be commended.

I was pleasantly surprised! How they would do on an unknown map against an unlearnt defensive layout is another question though.
