Definitely a vehicle that turned out to be more interesting than I was anticipating. For clarification, it is apparently available in CMRT- only for the SS in some specific months.

Another reason I would ask them to extend RT back to Operation Citadel. An Eastern Front game that doesn’t include the Battle of Kursk feels incomplete.

If they can have three Western Front games, they can have more than one Eastern Front game, right?

Speaking of Zitadelle, playing WDS's Panzer Campaign game, Kursk '43. Just finished the first day of a 120 turn scenario from the area of the southern pincer. My old buddy is playing the Germans and I'm Soviet. I can't think of anything more intense in wargaming than this. Not even Stalingrad, to be honest. The sheer level of fortifications, an SS panzer corps on the line, 2 full tank armies in reserve and the amount of artillery and air activity is off the charts.

I totally agree with Paul. I'd even make it so there were a game for each period. One from 6/41 - 11/42. Second from 11/42 - 7/43. Third from 7/43 until 5/45. Maybe an expansion for the Manchurian invasion, 9-20 Aug, '45.

I wonder how common it was for the German tank industry to start building a new tank before getting the official “green light”?

I do like how Kursk is a massive tank battle in the popular consciousness, but when you actually look deeper it's mines, mines, mines with mines on top and a side helping of mines.

I suspect it was just Ferdinand Porsche. That said, I doubt the competitive factionalism of the Nazi state helped

Truly a ton of mines at the first line of defense. And AT ditches too. Still a serious number at the second line of defense. After that, it's a huge gap before the third line of defense. And some more mines. In that huge gap sits the 1st Tank Army and two tank corps. Behind the third line sits the 5th Gds Tank Army. The Germans got to the third line on the south pincer before they were spent. It's daunting to play, to be honest.

I love huge defensive lines. Any other examples of massive defense works outside of the Soviets?

GLG

The Germans were no slouches at defensive fortifications when it came to the Eastern Front. The Soviets were dealing with German defensive works since the first winter counteroffensive in '41.
