A somewhat inevitable trip to Canada with CMCW's BAOR module... definitely one to have another stab at I think.

It's a really nice map, just kinda hard to read. Mix in some lacklustre spotting, poor dice rolls and facepalming accuracy and well, you'll see!

Should I start reading “Chieftain” by Bob Forrest-Webb?

Ben Kerry

And everyone got nuked in the end (yeah, I looked into the ending) I just kind of got my hands full being a chemistry undergrad, having so many hobbies, read course books, talk to this girl I has a crush on, and also yelling at people online.

Compared to Team Yankee, I found Chieftain to be significantly more gritty. Well worth the read IMHO.

Ben Kerry

I think it’s because things were much grimmer for early 1980s BAOR. If I finally write up a “Beyond Persian Predicament” anthology collection of short stories I would base the tone on that rather than Team Yankee

Ray L

Wow. The Brits really needed better spotting gear. Maybe for the binoculars there is a “remove lens covers” command?

Ben Kerry

I think there's a similar takeaway for the CMCW game

I know that troop quality affects spotting ability/speed, but I’ve often wondered what difference Opened Up and Buttoned Up makes with vehicle spotting.

Ray L

I like his story lines but I never found that Harold Coyle successfully conveyed the gritty aspect of ground combat in his books.

Ben Kerry

I remember opened up TCs gave much much better spotting capability in Combat Mission. It’s actually another “takeaway” from Yom Kippur where IDF tankers are trained to fight opened up unless heavily suppressed

Ben Kerry

Yeah. Ralph Peters did much better but he just get real grimdark real quick and he’s kinda too pessimistic
