Like I mentioned in this week's update, I'm a little out of ideas for Friday's video and thought it would be a good time to try out a little Question and Answer session. So... ask some questions below and I'll try to answer them!

There are some obvious caveats here- the less questions have to do with CM/military history etc, the less likely they are to get answered; I'm going to be picking and choosing which questions to answer etc.

We'll see what we get. If this is a format that works and shows promise, it could be something to formalise.

Would CM be more or less fun if the player could only issue orders to units connected to them (ie most senior commander on map) by an unbroken chain of command?

What are the current and future professional military education opportunities using CM? I know that CM:Pro replicates modern/near future capabilities. Do you see value in combining historical battle analysis and the WWII titles?

Andrew Offen

Can we have some more tactical analysis at the platoon and company level. Basic tactics workshops for the amateurs amongst us.

Luke Frame

I would like to know what your Top 5 or so wishlist items for combat mission 3 would be. Ex having replays and or better movement command for your pixeltruppen so they maybe stay in cover/conxepment.

In the modern titles, when is air support a good choice? I just played a game against the Russians in the Black Sea where a Strike Eagle costs as much as a whole tank platoon and seems to do a tiny portion of the damage of the tanks. Are they for blowing up buildings and nothing else? I think Apaches might be nearly worth it, but 16 hellfires isn't nearly as good as a whole lot of 120mm cannons.

Ben Kerry

I think airpower does allow for interdiction attacks on moving enemy vehicles over a large area. For large battles of manoeuvre airpower can practically take away the enemy’s ability to manoeuvre. Also iron bombs allow for pinpoint destruction of troublesome enemy strongpoints. Still, airpower is kind of niche in small scale company on company fights.

What got you into CM in the first place? And what campaign will you play next?

This one didn't make it in so: I think the cost-benefit just doesn't work for airpower in QBs. The only thing that really makes sense are the infamous strafing P47/Hind swarms and that's because they're so cheap, not because they're really that effective. On the realism side, I suspect we've gotten used to watching close air support in counter-insurgency environments, which is very different from conventional operations where airpower is going to get flexed at much greater depths.

Agreed on all points. I think one exception might be Russian and Syrian cheap attack jets. They can easily wipe out Abrams. I should try playing around with that.
