The Marines are always good fun and this scarp was no exception. Obviously, there's a lot of potential for visual confusion here because SF2's Marines have no alternate textures and Blufor and Redfor are identical here... hopefully I've managed to avoid making it too confusing.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, this pretty much went down as a classic infantry attack. The AAVs didn't have all that much to do, mostly due to the terrain.

Group 4 is up next for the second time, after that there will only be two platoons left in each group so I might consolidate them down to two groups of four. In fact, it's probably just a straight-up good idea to keep consolidating the groups so the polls are relevant to the end: Youtube loves polls, for some reason.

Do you know why CM seems to model the MK19s as super inaccurate? As far as I am aware they should be in line with other automatic grenade launchers fielded by NATO and former PACT forces.

I'm not sure. IIRC, Battlefront have said it's to simulate area fire but don't quote me on that. In reality you would give MGs or GMGs little taps to create a beaten zone and avoid being too accurate... but not all the time

Great video and commentary, as usual. AAV Platoon commander: “So, we transport these grunts from ship to shore, cross water obstacles, are big enough to be mini ammo and supply warehouses, and lay down long range suppressive fire. And you ALSO want us to be the decisive killing power against the enemy? C’mon, man …”

I'm really under-impressed with the AAV's. Sort of a variant of BMP doctrine with 'unarmored' vehicles and even more benign armament. I don't see the advantage in combat of an AAV over an M113, to be honest. The Marine TOE is solid though, making for a deep enough bench in case things go badly. That creates options in and of itself. But, yeah, AAVs are great (big) boats/trucks, but that 's about it. UH, that whole bit you mentioned about light mortars and how the grenade launchers fill the gap? I dunno how I feel about that philosophy. Sure, it fills the gap, but that's only if you're trying to keep the mortar teams tight with everyone else. I'd just hang the mortar teams back in a more central position, creating a base for indirect fire.

Well, if you don't have any light mortars and you do have something like a Mk19 then you can sort of fill that gap. Certainly IRL you can pitch it up on the tripod and make it into an indirect fire weapon. Not going to be as good as a mortar, obviously, but better than nothing.
