Poll 136 Results, Poll 137 and This Week
- WW2 Armour Penetration 6
- WW2 Infantry Firepower 5
Looks like there's some more modern infantry firepower up this week. They've been a few recurrent comments about giving CMBS the Platoon Patrol treatment: one of the reasons why I don't think this would be as interesting as everyone seems to think is that there isn't a significant difference in squad level capability, especially on the Russian side. So I think it could be illuminating to give Black Sea's Motor Rifle troops the Potential Rounds Downrange treatment and compare them to the Soviet squad TOEs we've already covered: Soviet Motor Rifle Troops (1980) and Syrian Mech Infantry. I suspect there won't be much difference because they're still using the same TOE, but we'll see.
In other poll related news... the final Platoon Patrol poll has ended in a tie! As of writing, there are 1200 votes in and a 50-50 split between British Mech in Bulldogs and Dutch Mech in YPRs. It seems astonishingly unlikely that the split is exactly 50-50- Youtube has to be doing some rounding- but I can't see the exact numbers so we're stuck with it.
I guess it shouldn't be that surprising: it's not like the FV432 and YPR-765 are that different, but given that they're tied it's down to me to pick one.
And I think we're going to go for the Brits first. That means a quick guide to British infantry platoons in Shock Force 2- the Bulldog already has it's own guide- then they get to tackle the Platoon Patrol.
Part of the reason for this is that I think the YPRs will be more exciting to watch in the final (and play). I'm not sure how many people really grasp that it has that 20mm cannon.
Anyway, that's the plan. I should really, really start to get to grips with this year's Winter Turn-by-Turn. As usual I've been dallying with grandiose and impractical plans to no effect. It should really be a modern one because we did WW2 last time and Cold War before that, but with the Platoon Patrol we've have a very Moderns year so... I don't know.
On the other hand... maybe some kind of PVP Platoon Patrol tournament would tie it off nicely. And we're back to grandiose plans.
Whatever happens on that front, we've still got a Short's Poll for next week. We're back to WW2 with Armour Penetration and Infantry Firepower in the running.
