And here we go! I've checked out a couple of other videos of this mission (from DoubleVision and Requin 87- definitely watch those!) and this should hopefully be a bit brighter and easier to follow. It's an interesting balance to find- trying to make things visible without compromising the sense that it's dark, but I think I've had a good shot.Meanwhile, I've started off scripting out the next War Room video on 1918 and have two Road to Damascus games in the pipe. One against Gunsalot, which we've gotten to the end of (no spoilers!) and one against Chap which is still plugging away in the background. So plenty in the pipe!

The tactics of 1918 sounds very interesting. The whole development of warfare wrt moving out of the quagmire that was the Great War was of great concern to all the major armies. Tanks figured prominently but most nations' militaries had their own ideas on how best to breakout and exploit tactical success into operational success. I'd say the Germans had the jump on everyone in that regard due to an existing tactical doctrine that lent itself well to an opportunistic operational doctrine with armor. The Soviets had the most developed ideas on operational exploitation but politics mucked that up badly for them just when they needed it most prior to WWII.

As I'm writing it, I suspect that the 1918 video will be more about the limits of tactics: the idea that by 1918, everyone understands how to attack and how to defend... the problem shifts to the ability to create the right conditions at the right place at the right time (ie. Operations)

Regarding Night Music, it is nice when a plan actually goes as intended--especially at night! Jerry never knew what hit him. Later in the war the Red Army was rather fond of nightime use, both in terms of maneuver and tactical engagements. Forward detachments would use night as a means of facilitating maneuver to further operational exploitation. There are stories of Soviet vehicles barreling by German positions with lights on, betting on being assumed as a German column taking advantage of night to avoid detection!
