Out of the Vault: Big Smile Axolotl (Patreon)

The wait is over for those who weren't around when the Big Smile Axolotl was first released as a Patreon Exclusive.  It is now the first file to be released from The Vault!I didn't like the idea of my Exclusive models coming out and never being available to new Patrons, so that's where The Vault comes in.  It gives first release benefits to current Patrons, yet new Patrons don't have to miss out completely.  In order to keep it fair to those first run Patrons, returning Exclusives won't be a free perk.  They will be available to purchase at a price similar to what Patrons pay for past public releases.  No 50% OFF coupon codes necessary.   *Once a design is Out of the Vault, they stay Out of the Vault!

That sounds like maybe a corrupted file or a corrupt SD Card. You can try redownloading the file, or maybe try another sd card? Does it look fine in the slicer preview?

Hey. Any chance you can tweak he custom support file. When I take off the supports from the tail I always pull off part of my bottom layer. It’s like it’s glued on for a brim.

Hi! If you are using PrusaSlicer, BambuStudio, or another PS branch slicer. Setting -slice gap closing radius- to 0 should fix that. There is actually a small gap around the custom brims. The problem is if I make the gap big enough to not close in PS (if that setting is default), then that gap has been too big to be effective as a brim for many people. It's been a balancing act. If you are clearly seeing the gap in the slice preview and it is still fusing, that points toward first layer over-extrusion or the nozzle being too close to the bed. I'm always trying to improve these things, so let me know if that helps.

Hi. I am attempting to print this on our Bambu. I'm using macaron by Ziro, and the body came out perfectly, but the head refuses to print correctly. The first 2 attempts, the inner ball joint continually turns to spaghetti and the rest of the head is perfect. My third attempt had the head literally split into layers and the ball joint started out fine for the first half then errored out with spaghetti and the other issues. Is there anything you can suggest? I've never had any issues with the Bambu this badly. Thanks!

Hi! Are you using the presupported head file? That’s recommended. Otherwise you will need to generate supports .

I think this vault plan is a perfect compromise. Half of my gifts this year were some version of this (Magnets, full, head adapted to an ornament). I’m happy others members get to print it now

I love this vault idea! I missed this guy at first and am so excited that I have the opportunity to get him now. My daughter loves axoltols so she has the regular one and the big smile magnet and has been bugging me about when I can print her a big smile friend for her current one. Thank you!
