3D PRINTING SETTINGS

Print-In-Place.  No additional supports needed.  Several joints must be wiggled and "cracked" free in order to articulate them.  Be Extra careful with brittle filaments, like silks

Pre-supported version included for extra print stability (recommended).  Support is connected to the front legs that must be removed and discarded.

15-20% Infill.

3 Walls. <--This is very important!

Here is a quick video showing the best methods for "cracking" the joints free: Bunny Rabbit - Cracking the Joints: https://youtu.be/UYcgbHcd_y8Some members of testing group successfully printed this model down to 50% scale, but YMMV.

Looks Amazing great job!!

Katsu's Dojo 3D

This is some next level insane modeling!! 😍😍😍 Looks awesome man!

Mike Sprague

So, when do we get the zombie version? Or maybe a Donnie Darko edition 🤣🤣 all kidding aside, looks like a fun print!

Courtney

Oh my gosh. I joined your Patreon this morning because my son loves the axolotl we printed so much…but he is obsessed with bunnies (he’s 6). You just made his day (week, month, etc). Thank you!! (He also said “when is he going to do an aye aye, kids are never satisfied).

R&D 3D Printing

What’s the filament you used? Great Easter colors.

Shelbys Treasures

Can this model be scaled down or haven you not tried that? :)

Stephan Langer

Some members of testing group successfully printed this model down to 50% scale, but YMMV.

matmire_makes

Yeah, it scales pretty well! I was actually able to get a working 40% off of the Bambu, but not from my other printers. haha. I think generally speaking 60-65% should be safe, with smaller being very doable if the printer is well calibrated.

Laying Layers

So amazing!! Can you make a version with antlers??!?

Justin Marino

Mines already hit the printer first layer looking good

Jason Mooney

I started a little behind schedule, but I have this adorable rabbit started. https://www.twitch.tv/cooltechdesigns. 11hr31m for the colored details, 7h46m for just the eyes colored. Using CookieCAD Unicorn for the body, silk red for the irus, and a nice dark super glittery purple for the pupil. Almost forgot white for the bushy tail.

TheArtifactWorkshop

Hey! I was wondering if you would be willing to share your Bambu 3mf files going forward? Almost nothing to paint on this little guy, but maybe on more complex models? Anyway, you could just save it along with the STL in the download folder. Some other content creators have started doing it (since Bambu is taking over!!) and its handy to open it ready to go without either of us doing more work. Thanks!

Jason Mooney

I decided to try another max size for the Bambu, just a single filament. It will take over 14hrs.

Jazzy_Plz

Mat's stuff has historically been really easy to paint because of the clean sculpting. I dunno how needed it really is when it only takes a few minutes to do it. and the majority don't print dual colors.

Pamela Hutchins

I’m so new to this but i printed at 50% basically because I’m impatient and it’s perfect :)

Jason Mooney

The right rear leg wouldn'y break free, and twisted off

Jason Mooney

The video you posted is for the Axolotl Head.

Kayla

Just finished printing it, and I love it! It printed really well. And all of the joints freed up nicely.

Roberto Mello

I printed the little guy in 100mm Z. Is there a reason the front paws are big, like he is wearing boxing gloves :-)

Jared Eggleston

I printed this and all looked nice until the head fell off. It looks like it was not actually connected. How can I send you a picture of this.

matmire_makes

Oh no! You can email me pictures. matmire.makes@gmail.com

Johnny Wilson

I'm printing one right now, so far so good. I'm 85% done with the print and it's looking amazing so far

matmire_makes

FYI, for anyone else having this issue. In Cura, make sure "union overlapping volumes" is checked.

Johnny Wilson

Both front legs snapped right off and I was using 25% gyroid infill

matmire_makes

Oh shoot. Would you mind sending me some pictures? Was it a silk filament by chance? Also, curious if you wiggled it sort of side-to-side first, or just bent them.

Johnny Wilson

Yes it was Amolen silk rainbow filament. I just barely moved them and they both snapped off in the same place close to the shoulders

matmire_makes

I see. Silks can be super brittle, that’s why I push those joints inward toward the chest before trying to twist them. That helps avoid torsion stress to the layers. I show how I do this in the demo video that I linked in the post.

Johnny Wilson

I followed what you did in the video and gently pushed them in towards the chest. They snapped off at that point

Johnny Wilson

I'll just have to 3d gloop them back on

matmire_makes

Gotcha. Hmm. I know the testers had some successful silk prints, but they can be pretty unpredictable in my experience. Sorry that happened. I’ll think about if there’s any way for me to strengthen that area.

Johnny Wilson

I emailed you pics, they broke in the exact same spot

matmire_makes

big feets are cute! ...and help him hold himself up. :)

3D Printin 4 Cheep

I Printed one overnight on a Ender 3 S1 Plus in Duramic Marble Pla. Joints were a little harder to get apart then your video but it came out great!

Lacey Gribbin

The elbow joints on my 60% snapped off (PLA). I'm 100% it was my fault. Just giving a heads up that the elbows will continue to be fragile the smaller it gets. 👍🏻

Kellie

curious how long it took to print on the bambu?

matmire_makes

I think this one was around 11-12 hours because I slow down the outer wall speed and printed the eyes in a different color. A single color print with those same print speeds would be about 9 hours.

Terri Trotter

What is the smallest size anyone has successfully printed?

matmire_makes

I think 40%. I tried a 30% on the Bambu X1 but the elbows fused. Definitely pick strong filaments for attempting that small.

Terri Trotter

Thanks. Running 50% right now as that will be my $5.00 seller till a magnet is released.

Jack from Layer Makes

Great model but I've had two heads come off when trying to free the head. Wonder if it could be beefed up somehow?

matmire_makes

Any chance you are using Cura and have "union overlapping volumes" unchecked? That would make the head connection very light. I'm working on a fix that would make that unnecessary, but for now that setting needs to be on.

matmire_makes

Ok, interesting. The haven't heard others having this problem, aside from with that setting off. Are you using at least 3 walls? what infill? Can you email me pictures so I can get a better idea of why it might be happening? matmire.makes@gmail.com

Kelly Hamlin

I actually ruined one the same way, using prusaslicer, printing a couple on a bambu x1c now.

Jack from Layer Makes

The one I did on my x1c turned out great. Hope you’re does too!

Marco van Dam

I did a print at 75%. Only the head came out nice. Rest just broke off on touching it.

matmire_makes

That definitely shouldn't happen. Would you mind emailing me some pictures so I can get a better idea of what might have happened? matmire.makes@gmail.com

Sean John

I printed one and it came out well - head was definitely tough to break and thought I'd snap the entire piece off. Luckily it worked :)

CWP 3D

Printed a few in cookiecad, there's just too many spots that touch (support) other parts and makes for a lot of cleanup if you don't want sharp spots. I mean its a cool idea having the model print like this, but there are some pitfalls as well. maybe its just me.

Dave Hart

I'm in the same boat. As a proof of concept thing it is kinda cool. As a clean print it doesnt fall in line with the other models.

Frostbit Shadow

Here is our time-lapse for the bunny. Did a nice pink so my wife can give it away for Easter. Kind of bugs bunny style I took the little time to paint the mouth area white. https://youtu.be/FJSf9B1Eicg

Cassie

I love this bunny but it doesn’t love me. Had two snap right above the shoulder joints 🥺

Marco van Dam

Hi, i forgot to take the photos, and trow it away already…

matmire_makes

Oh no! Can you send me pics? MatMire.makes@gmail.com

Kelly Rapley

every bunny i print either one or both front legs break off

matmire_makes

Hi! Sorry you’re having a hard time with it. Can you send me some pictures so I can see if there’s something I can do to improve it? matmire.makes@gmail.com

MakersChoice

Do you have the 3mf file for the brown/white that you show on discord?

matmire_makes

That one is hand painted. It's not a multi color print.

Jason P English

i have printed two bunnies and they came out awesome thank you

CWP 3D

For sure, kinda makes me uneasy about selling them

cheryl banman

I printed 2 at 80% and everything is great except the left shoulder joint wont loosen broke one arm trying to loosen it. I tried on a different printer and same issue. just the left shoulder joint.

matmire_makes

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I’ve heard that from a few people. I’m working on an update for that now. Just doing some test prints. Should be out soon!

matmire_makes

working on a fix for that. Hey, I accidentally deleted your comment on the bat when I was trying to reply to it. Can you send me pictures? matmire.makes@gmail.com Is it fusing inside the joint or at the back where it touches the bed? Those joints have fairly generous tolerances, so I'm curious where the fusion is happening.

Scott

Same issue with the left arm and left leg joints not loosening .

Terri Trotter

I am loving this design. Tried it with fuzzy skin and it looks great. Till I tried to move things. Fuzzy doesn’t work well with articulated joints. Anyone figure out a way to do fuzzy skin without the joints being fuzzy? Working on a bambu and using that slicer.

Lioness2000

Awhhhh!!! I love him! :)

Lioness2000

That's really awesome though. I would love to see your little guy. I haven't tried using that setting yet.
