The Crestie is possibly my most requested design, so I'm really excited to finally be able to release one.

This design comes with two separate snap-fit tail options.  In reality, Crested Geckos drop their tails quite easily, and unlike many other lizards... theirs don't grow back.  As a result, there are many many cresties out there without tails.  I wanted that to be an option for my model too, so you can print either the full tail or the little nub.  Even better, print both!  If your crestie's tail has an accident, you can swap it out for the nub. haha. Here's a little walkthrough video of the model's features.Happy Printing!MattPictured Models are printed in...Stronghero Marble Rainbow*** (unavailable. 3D PRINTING SETTINGS

Body: Print-In-Place.  (So far I do not see a need for custom brims, but let me know if you feel they would help.  note: generating brims in-slicer can make final cleanup a bit more work.)

Head: Snap-Fit to Body.  Pre-Supported for easy printing.  No additional support needed.

Full Tail: Print-in-place.  Snap-fit to Body

Nub Tail: Print-in-place.  Alternate tail option. Snap-fit to Body

5-15% Infill.

3 Walls.

This has been test printed as low as 60% with full articulation, on a well calibrated printer.  The "full tail" is the part most likely to fail at small sizes, so if you go with the "nub" it can likely scale down even further. YMMV

Here is a quick video showing the easiest method for snap-fitting the head onto the body: https://youtu.be/P9llZj7NBvs?t=57

matmire_makes

Haha. To tell the truth, I don't even own any real reptiles! I just think they're cool, and fun to make!

Sarah Small

So excited to print this!

While I absolutely love this model (my favorite so far), the tip of the tail bothers me! It seems to be the same mesh used as on the ballpython? Cresties have another "suction pad" similar to the ones on their toes at the end of their tail. Therefore the tip of the tail should be less pointy and somewhat flatter instead of round. Hope that makes sense! Awesome model anyway, already printing the second one!

matmire_makes

I’m actually working on that change right now!

Kris Garner

I printed a batch of these at 50% and the front section of the body and several of the tail sections, the ball joint falls apart.

Kieran

Is it more accurate now? I'm curious because I don't know much about this specific gecko

Mario Schweizer

I actually just got to check it out right now. It is a lot better! Two minior things are still a bit off. 1) The tail could be a bit longer, though i have seen Cresties with somewhat short tails before. 2) The base of the tail is not much thicker than the end/tip of it. What i'm trying to say is, when you're looking at the current tail from top view, it's kind of a triangle shape? Which it shouldn't be, or at least not this much. This might be fixed by making the tail longer though.

Mario Schweizer

@Mat I can provide you with photos of specific angles if it helps. Though you'd probably find a lot on Google aswell.

matmire_makes

I appreciate that. I have made certain choices for both articulation/functional reasons and artistic/stylistic reasons. I've made a few updates to get a bit more accuracy in the tail, but I think I'm pretty happy how it is now.

Osmia Confections

Look at those colours. It is a masterpiece! Congrats!!!

Kelly Rapley

love them now we need a lizard animal carrier

Sarah Small

I love this model! Is it possible to get a version that has spots for magnets in the feet so he will cling to things? I have magnets that are 6 X2 mm round.

R&B Creations

I have a customer looking for an Ackie lizard. Have you ever done one of those?

Roberto Mello

It would be cool if we could switched tails :-)

matmire_makes

The full tail is usually pretty easy to remove again. The nub ranges from not-too-bad to impossible-to-remove. Mostly depending on how strong the filament is. There just isn't much to grab onto for leverage.

matmire_makes

I haven't yet. For lizards I have done the Beardie, Leo Gecko, and the Crestie.

T Rogers

What filament is in the main picture

matmire_makes

It's Stronghro Marble Rainbow. Unfortunately, it's currently unavailable. Hopefully they bring it back

Polymer Designs

Love this!!! Have you thought about making a platypus?? I think you would do an amazing design

Gosia

Could you do mini crested gecko like you did with bearded dragon and axolotl? 🥹
