Hey Everyone! As promised, here is the second part of my one year anniversary "Axolotl" theme... RoboLotl - The Robot Axolotl!!  Without the Sci-Fi movies of the 80s I never would have started down the career path I've had, so when I had the idea to do an Anniversary Edition Axolotl, a Robot version was at the top of my list.  This was so much fun and yet surprisingly challenging to design.  I hope you like it!!This model has one new posing feature that may not be too obvious. You can clip the gills over parts of the back as a way of posing it with it's head up.  Here is a video to show how it works! https://youtu.be/nBnS02eFf-A

Cheers!Matt

Due to the very small joints in the gills, this axolotl may be more limited in how small it will print successfully. It has been test printed as low as 70-75% with full articulation. Well, now I'm on going to buy the shiniest silver filament I can find. This is so cool!!

matmire_makes

I can’t speak more highly of that Cookicad dual granite silk. It’s stunning. The light next to dark looks like chrome!

ADHD Laser Focused LLC

I'm a huge fan of their gradients haven't used their silk but definitely going to give it a go!!

Just bought some (I hope) extremely chrome-like PLA from Amazon, just to print this one 👍

Love this guy and hope you continue to do other themed axolotls. Are your eyes painted or do you buy something to stick on?

Jamie Robinson

That's awesome!! Will there also be a robo Magnet? I don't see it in the list.

matmire_makes

I still have to make it, but there will be one soon.

Jamie Robinson

awesome!! Thank you so much!! I really love this one! :)

Kieran

What printer/settings do you use? Your quality is INSANE

matmire_makes

These were printed on a Bambu X1 Carbon. It's 0.16mm layer height, but I also used variable layer height on these to get smoother top layers on the back and nose.

Kieran

Excellent thank you, gonna give variable layer height a try because this quality is nuts

ADOPT a DRAGON

Will 2 mm magnets work with these instead of the 2.3?

matmire_makes

I would think so. I’ve seen some magnets on Amazon listed as 2mm but actually measure 2.3, so they may be the same. I imagine most of them are manufactured at the same factory.

Newbie here. Help! How do you attach the head to the body? Is there a video? I have four printed, the robo and redux and afraid to snap that head on without breaking something. I have removed the supports. Help me take that next step, please.

Sewfor54

Thanks for responding so fast! I will watch the video. On the redux does its tentacles move like the robo one? They seem unmovable to me, but the robo tentacles move great. Again thanks for the response and enjoy your vaca!

matmire_makes

They should. The gill joints are identical. Some filaments flow at different rates than other, which could potentially make them stick. You could try gently wiggling them to see if they come free, otherwise you may have to adjust flow rate for that filament.

Chris Griffin

will you be doing a multi colour version of this fabulous model?
