Hey Everyone!Introducing my new Ferret design!  This furry fella comes with some fun features like belly extension links because who doesn't love a super-long ferret (my personal preference is to add one extension link).  Also, with the assistance of rubber band "belly muscles", it can support itself for more realistic standing poses! Please watch This Video for a demonstration of the model and the proper way to string up the rubber band.  It's super-easy to fit, but you do have to twist it between each link so that the tension is evenly distributed.  This is key to posing stability.  One rubber band should work in most cases, but you could use two if you want a less tension.  If using two, just overlap the rubber bands on one of the central links.  It uses the same size #12 rubber bands as the bat models, like These Rubber Bands***  I hope you like it!Cheers!MattPrinted in PolyMaker Matte Rainbow...PolyMaker.com link | Amazon Link****Click Here to go to the Pinned "the Hub - Info and Current Download Links" post*

3D PRINTING SETTINGSA few of the parts have small connective "anchors" on the first layer to help with bed adhesion.  You will need to trim them away before adding the rubber bands.

Head: Snap-Fit to Body.  Pre-Supported for easy printing.  No additional support needed.

BodyFront: Print-In-Place. Snap-Fit to BodyRear or Extensions.

BodyRear: Print-In-Place. Snap-Fit to BodyFront or Extensions.

ExtensionA & ExtensionB (optional): Make the body longer by inserting these in between BodyFront and BodyRear!  The only difference between the two is the fur texture, so that you can avoid a repeated fur pattern.

Tail: Snap-Fit to BodyRear.

3MF: includes a basic Eyes/Nose/Ears multicolor 3MF file.

5%-15% Infill.

3 Walls.

This should generally scale down to about 65% with full articulation, on a well calibrated printer.  YMMV

Please watch This Video for a demonstration of the model and the proper way to string up the rubber band.

Now I need to make one and see what my ferrets thinks of it.

carrie roehrig

Omg. He is so adorable. Wish I waited to start the rattlesnake. I can't wait to print this.

Sarah Scarne

oh my gosh! I know what I'm printing tonight! Love it!

Jimmy Hobby

There is a problem with trying to download it say http500 error google user unable to handle request

matmire_makes

It's working for me. I think that's a browser/cache error. Maybe try a different browser. Google says to try refreshing the page or clear your cache and/or cookies.

Jimmy Hobby

I figured out a way around just as I got your message I have it now I figured I needed some 3d ferrets to go with the 3 I have

Magpulx720

You just made my wife and kids very happy! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to making wonderful gifts.

Terry House

I just love it! Great job! I just all that you have done

LuckySpoon

I know what I'm printing next 🤩

troy hebert

this is going to be a top seller in my area

Terri Trotter

great design. Lot of filament when running using my studio numbers. Not sure this is going to be a profitable seeding for me from a sellers perspective.

Dave Hunt

awesome job. any chance you could do a slight mod to the head and turn it into a Otter? maybe have it come with both heads? i get a lot of requests for otters but there are no good models out there. thanks, and once again great work.

Jay Butcher

I had the exact same thought.

Terri Trotter

Jay, nice to hear someone else who looks at things similarly. While I love the design and will print one for myself I don’t see this being put into production for the studio.

matmire_makes

It's a bigger model, but it scales well (I have an 80% that is a really fun size) and you can omit one or both of the extensions to lower resource costs too. They are optional.

ErickDR 3D Designs

Honestly I don't see any issue. MMM designs are my best sellers by far, I just set 5x filament cost (MMU waste included) as my base price and adjust upwards for extra long or difficult prints. I can see the ferret quickly becoming one of my best sellers, at just based on my customers

Terri Trotter

Right now I’m having a hard time with people wanting to spend over $30 for a model. Economic issue. Not print design issue.

ErickDR 3D Designs

You can always scale the models down to target a specific price point. In fact, offering multiple scales is a great way to sell more in general. A single color ferret at 100% scale with no extensions would be right at $30 based on my formula (less if you use less expensive filament than me), multicolor would probably want to drop to 80-85% scale for the same price.

Jayden Riesner

Awesome it looks amazing!!! i been looking forward to seeing a ferret made and it looks even better than i could of expected!!

Snyders Cut Creations

Well my first print is almost done. I will be printing two more after to see how well it looks/sells. But as always awesome job.

3D Sunbeam

Amazing! As Always you never fail to impress. I don't care for the creepy zombies, however I did still admire their craftsmanship. But thank for giving us this adorable Critter this month on top of the rest!

matmire_makes

Thanks! A cute ferret felt like a good counter-balance to the creepy zombat. :)

Aaron

Matt. You are truly amazing! I have a couple other memberships to designers and I know it’s an opinion but I don’t think I’d be alone in saying you by far sir outpace every single one of them. Your work is extremely innovative and am happy to support you.

Brooke Leigh

Not sure what your profit margin is, but at $16 for 70% scale I'm at 75% profit. I scaled down lizards and 'lotls and sell for $15 like hot cakes. It's a nice way to get the model out there without needing to charge $30+ for a 100% scale.

bruce harrington

Haha! Love this one! I've got 8 (2 already over the rainbow bridge), this is awesome! ♥

Chantal

Out of curiosity, do you hand paint the eyes and nose?

matmire_makes

I did hand paint them on this print, but I’m also including a 3MF with this same basic paint job, for multicolor printing.

Chantal

I am considering doing so as well. It just seems like a waste of filament at times simply to incorporate other colours in just a few minor details.

pennyderr

Thank you soooo much for such an amazing model! I love your creations and so do my customers. If you ever get a chance, I have had several requests lately for a realistic elephant. Can't find a nice one out there anywhere! I'm told by my customers that they DON'T want a circus or cartoon elephant, so I haven't been able to find one! Just a thought! Thanks again for all of your amazing work!

brian hilligoss

print multiple of the multi color parts at one time to drastically reduce waste cost. same waste for 12 heads as one.

Snyders Cut Creations

It’s true. There is this one I signed up with before you and I am considering dropping as the amount of things and that their choices seem to be lacking more and more. You on the other hand deliver beautiful better products every time.

LuckySpoon

I used the 3mf but chose to eliminate the color in the ears. Took 3 hours and a whole lot of waste off. Doing just the eyes and nose, the difference was negligible as opposed to not doing multi-color at all.

LuckySpoon

I'm not new to 3d printing by any stretch but I am somewhat new to doing it for money so maybe I'm just not jaded to it yet and can still have fun with it. However, there are other things you can easily make 7 or 8 times your material cost so, if you have to take a little bit of a hit in your preferred profit margin on a different print, it equals out in the end, IMO. I will be pricing the full size with only the nose and eyes printed different colors at $25 and I don't forsee any trouble getting that for them. Their material cost is about $7 so it's still a fine margin. Other prints can cost me $1-2 and they sell for $15. There is nowhere in business where profit margins are absolutely set in stone and linear in nature.

LuckySpoon

Got one done and will be put on display in the store today! My absolute favorite print so far. Love it! I used Polymaker Polyterra dual gradient wood. Gave it a nice layered look kind of like if it had brown topcoat and a lighter undercoat.

Magpulx720

Do we remove any of the parts in the middle on the underside?

matmire_makes

Do you mean the little thin bits that run between some of the gaps? Those should get trimmed out. They are little anchor points to help with bed adhesion

Magpulx720

That would be them, I figured as much but wanted to be sure

Morialkar

Définitivement mon modèle préféré!!! 😁🌟

Zombie Saint

I'm so glad you don't have to print part a and b out, I only put part a one into print, then started second guessing myself 😂 so I checked your post thoroughly and sure enough I don't even need to print either if I don't want... Brilliant print Mat, rubber band is a great mechanic 👏👏👏

Zombie Saint

Oh sorry Mat, one more thing, how hard would it be to talk your mate into designing a "rubber band" for the ferret, just like he did with the bat? Just a thought. Thanks again mate 👍 Sorry, I just realised that probably won't work as he won't know how big the ferret is, only thing I could think i if he could scale it for every lin, but that's a of math

Chris T

Do you generally use brims on your prints?

matmire_makes

I generally don't need them, but sometimes use them as cheap insurance. I always set the brim gap to .35mm or higher, so that they are very easy to remove.

David Long

I second that. My wife loves otters.

Susan Melton

What plate do you use? I don't have good enough luck with most things on the Bambu without a brim, and it has to be .1 or it doesn't tend to work out. I'm using the old black textured plates, but heard the gold works better, so thinking maybe I just need to get a couple of those... My ferrets looks great but the brims were a pain and have left annoying visual residue around the edges :(

matmire_makes

I have mostly used the cool plate w/glue stick, with great results. I did recently get the gold textured pei and it has been working really well for me.

Ellyn Stephens

I must say this is one of my favorite designs ever...it would be awesome if you could make a squirrel based on the ferret

Annette Botha

I love this! Would you please consider designing a chameleon?

Jamie Robinson

I was just looking at this little ferret and thought to myself... he could soooo easily be made into a raccoon!!! I have a raccoon tiktok channel where we feed 19 of the little cuties!! I would love it if you could add a little raccoon to the lineup! <3

Spideyraccoon

I second the raccoon, but can also see the ferret transformed into the cutest otter!

CHRISTOPHER ROMERO

Very excited to start printing these! Do they require supports for PLA printing?

matmire_makes

No generated supports required! I add modeled-in presupports where necessary.

William Crawford

It's weird that I just got an email about this from Patreon, even though it's from September and the download isn't available.

matmire_makes

I have heard that patreon is sending out emails promoting past popular posts, without understanding the context. It’s quite annoying. I’ve given them feedback on this. Hopefully they stop doing it.

RedGuardian

Having so much issues trying to print this on a Bambu A1 with Inland Pla. I’ve printed other things but have anyone else had issues printing or any fixes for your issues? The adhesion 15-20min in and some pieces come off.

matmire_makes

I haven't had any issues with the textured PEI plates on my A1 Mini or X1Cs. The usual things to try would be wash the bed with dish soap, and be careful not to touch the print surface to avoid getting finger oils on it. I also wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol between prints. Maybe try a brim (I use a brim gap of 0.35mm which helps adhesion, yet comes off very easy and clean).

RedGuardian

Awesome! I understand these kind of issues are so broad because there’s so many different factors that can affect the print, but I’ll try the brim gap. Also, I realized that the walls was defaulted at two for the last time I tried. I believe you said it should be three.

SlayDesigns

I know you said it should scale down to 65% just wondering if anyone was able to print any smaller successfully. The full size is adorable though just needed a small gift for someone and wanted to know how small I could get it.

Jocelyn Kessinger

Any chance your going to rerelease this one with a painted .3mf?
