***THIS FILE IS NO LONGER INCLUDED FREE WITH SUBSCRIPTION.It can be purchased once re-released according to this Schedule.Hey Everyone!  Introducing the subscriber exclusive, White's Tree Frog!  Also know as the Dumpy Tree Frog (poor fella).   Since the original Tree Frog model was such a lean and lanky critter, I thought it would be really fun to make a variant of the much more... robust... White's Tree Frog.  They have such fun look and I love the little skin rolls!  This design has the same magnet cavities (either internal or glue-in) as the other Tree Frog, so the process is the same there, and an instruction PDF is included in the download.    I use these magnets for the Belly and these magnets for the Feet, but other sizes will fit.  The Body will fit round magnets between 10x2mm - 10x3mm. The feet will fit round magnets between 5x2mm - 5x3mm.Multicolor 3MF included!Cheers!MattPictured Models are printed in...PolyMaker Starlight Meteor body, with Starlight Mercury belly***iSANMATE Blue/Green Matte Gradient***iSANMATE Purple/Yellow Matte Gradient***

3D PRINTING SETTINGS

Body: Print-In-Place.  Pre-supported.  No supports. Internal magnet slots.

Body, Glue In Magnets: alternate version with external magnets slots to glue them in.

Head:  Pre-supported snap-fit clip.

3MF Multicolor files: Both the captive and glue-in magnet versions. PrusaSlicer & Bambu Studio

Magnet Test File: Very small model you can print to test your magnet sizes.

10-15% Infill.

3 Walls if using a 0.4mm nozzle.

Here's a VIDEO of how the head is attached (demo'd on the other Tree Frog).  You'll notice I hook one edge of the clip into the socket and then sort of roll the other side in.  That's the easiest way to fit it.This model was successfully printed this model down to 60% scale, but your mileage may vary.  It can print even smaller on very accurate printers.

Stephan Langer

Thats the i like, i like, i like it 😍

Rhonda Buchner

Love these! What color did you use for the eyelids of the Starlight frog? Thank you!

matmire_makes

It was a matte black. Sorry, I don’t remember which one. It would be either Eryone, Ziro, or Bambu.

Lucy

you are the best!!! wonderful :D

Jayden Riesner

this is awesome i have one on printer now i love how chunky it is lol i also love how realistic it is

Rhonda Buchner

Thank you! With the light reflecting off of it it was hard to tell if it was brown, black, etc. I love the color combo!

Wild Life 3d

Absolutely love these!! Your other frog was my best seller last weekend

KimBo Designs

Did you paint the eyes or are they inserts?

matmire_makes

They were multicolor printed on my Bambi printer. I also sometimes hand paint them after. There are a few painting tutorials I did here. They are tagged #tutorials which can be found under the patreon “collections” page.

KimBo Designs

Awesome, I have two Bambus and just thought these looked so realistic! Thank you for the reply.

matmire_makes

Matte white. Sorry, I can’t remember which brand. It was either Ziro, Eryone, or Bambu.

Teresa Forman

I absolutely love these frogs. The magnets work so well and are so cute on the refrigerator.

Shannon Hill

Just did a multi colour print with them and they're just the cutest! However there is a bit of an issue with their back legs - the closeness is just a tad too close and they leave blemishes where you have to rip them apart - I remember this was the same issue with the other frogs but not sure if it left the blemishes or not. Just wondering if this can be fixed as they're quite sharp please?

matmire_makes

Can you try the latest (v02)? I opened up those gaps a bit. :)

Eva Blond

Printed one today and I love it, but he is disabled, he is blind because his eyes are missing, there´s just holes where the eyes should be. How do I fix this?

Paige's Purlieu

it's a visual design effect, the negative space allows the shadow to appear as if there are pupils without having to do any painting.

Marley Hoggatt

This is so cute, but I can’t get his head to pop on for anything! Any tips?

Taurion

If you haven't figured it out yet, sometimes heating up the body socket with a hair dryer for a few seconds is enough to make it easier to assemble

Shannon Hill

Sorry, Matt! the lead up to Christmas got me super busy and it slipped my mind. I have a request for one so I'll try it after Christmas to see, thank you for being so on-it with fixes!.

Elizabeth Porter

Question - Is anyone else finding at 100% print the frog can not hold onto the refrigerator? He seems to heavy and slides down. I did 10% infill, 3 wall and .4 nozzle. Thanks

matmire_makes

Hmm... It doesn't slide for me, but it could be that different fridges use different thicknesses of metal. The glue-in magnet version should stick stronger, since that one would have direct magnet to fridge contact.

ShadowGH057

I have done one 100% and I used all 10 magnets, and it grips good, but I do 7% Infill, 2 Walls and .4 Nozzle, Hope this helps.

Neil Porter

just signed up love your designs. complete novice here with my daughter. do we need to add supports

matmire_makes

Thanks! Nope! I model in presupports where necessary. You shouldn’t need to generate any in the slicer.

Ryan Courts

These are great! I just got my first 3D Printer and have been making lots of the free stuff from Thingiverse... but after seeing your Crab on a google search, it lead me here. I just bought the Commercial Membership for a year. Your designs are exactly what I've been looking for to build for the kids. So far, I've made a couple White's frogs, and I just went back and bought the Bat.

MamaBear

Ok, Maybe stupid Question, But does the tip of the hot end not pull the magnet out? lol Bambu X1... 1st time trying the internal Magnets

matmire_makes

Nope. It shouldn’t cause problems. The magnetic bed provides enough hold to keep the magnets down.

Brandon Doven

What filament did you use for the belly of the blue/green gradient frog?

matmire_makes

It was a matte white, sorry I don’t remember which one. It would be either Ziro, Eryone, or Bambu brand.

Jackie Ansley

The front legs are not strong enough. They separated and I read on another group that people are having the same issue.

matmire_makes

Hi! This is the first I've heard that. Could you send me pictures of the breaks so I can see what's happening? help@matmiremakes.com Thanks!

Chris (CAV217)

Mine printed very well! I would like to print them smaller, but not sure what size the magnets will need to be to fit.

matmire_makes

If you multiply the magnet dimensions by the same scale you want to shrink the frog, that should get you close. Ex. 10mm x 80% = 8mm, etc. Then you can use the little magnet test print to fine tune.

Erin Loosbrock

These are so fun! I'm on my way to printing a little frog army. I have been having to do a few adjustments to some of the head/neck joints. They're too tight of a fit without a bit of sanding/clipping and muscle. Otherwise, they're absolutely adorable. My favorite real life frog... I may need to find a toad friend for them.

KJ

I got a question, and its the same question for all these models.. while the models are awesome... the way they are designed makes painting in bambu studio hours worth of time.. the edge detection doesn't work at all.. and looking at the is 3mf file for the printed frog i noticed there is some INTERNAL parts painted.. how? Id love these designs to be way more friendly for us to paint quickly.. instead of taking hours. 🙏

Brett Burns

Sorry if I'm missing this somewhere but do you have general suggested print settings? Just trying to avoid some of the trial and error. I have printed with .12 layers and it came out really nice but also seemed a bit fragile. Not sure if it's recommended to keep it at .20 or .18?

matmire_makes

Layer height plays a pretty minor role in strength. Wall/perimeter count is the most important. I recommend 3 walls and 10-15% infill on all of my models (FYI, I typically use .16 layer height). There are a lot of other factors that can effect strength that are more printer/filament specific, and hard to give a standard recommendation for. Silk filaments for example, are known to be more brittle and have lower layer adhesion. For those, and any filament, it's good to run temperature towers to find the optimal temp for print quality and strength. Silks tend to get stronger layer adhesion at higher temperatures. Flow can also effect strength, if your printer is under-extruding.

Rhonda Buchner

Any tips on getting the filament to cover the magnets without bunching up? My first attempt at the frogs and the magnets fit perfectly however it think due to the smooth surface of the magnets the first two layers of filament over the magnets have not stuck at wall, especially for the larger magnets in the body. I just applied a thin layer of superglue to the top of the magnets to see if that makes a rough enough surface for adherence once dry but wondering if I should be doing something else. Thanks Matt!

matmire_makes

Hmm… I’ve never had that happen. Maybe scuffing the sides of the magnets with some sandpaper might help it grip. Possibly wear rubber gloves to keep any finger oils off of them. I’d also make sure you’re putting the pause at the highest possible layer you can (if you aren’t already). Sorry, I can’t think of anything else at the moment. Usually the bridging is enough to cover the magnet, and it wouldn’t need to actually stick to them.

Rhonda Buchner

Ok thank you. Yeah I have the pause at the last possible layer but the magnets are flush with the top. I’m using 5x3 and 10x3 magnets but do have some 5x2 and 10x2 on hand so maybe I can try those if the current ones don’t work out. I was thinking of sanding as well so I may give that a go next time. Thank you!

Emma Brown

This is super cute… just printed one out, snapped his poor back leg trying to get it apart oops haha. Not to worry operator error. What I really want to know is if anyone has a Bambu P1S and how long it takes to print this frog, single colour :)

Sarah Wood

I’m so in love with this frog. I’ve gotten him down to 50% so far. I might push it to 40 and see what happens.

Becky Glenn

can you make it without the magnet? Or does it need the magnet?

matmire_makes

Yup! Just print the regular body. On that one, the magnet cavities are internal, so they aren’t visible. They’ll just be empty.

Amy Bustin

Does anyone have any tips for painting the eyes? It takes me way too long and I make a mess of things.

Tarra Rowley

Is there anywhere online I can get this file? I have five White tree frogs, and I would like to get this file.

matmire_makes

The purchase link for this file is in the “Vault” section of the pinned “Hub” info post.

Mark

OK, I've sold hundreds of these and always glued the magnets in. I'm attempting to put magnets in during printing. I'm seeing the one foot magnet starts closing on layer 17 and the others on 18. Will I be ok putting all magnets in on layer 17 ?

Mark

I have the pause at 17, starts closing on 18&19

matmire_makes

It'll be fine putting the hold on whatever layer leaves them all open. There is some slack in the tolerances.

Mark

Appreciate it !

matmire_makes

It’s available now. Head to the Hub post, then scroll down to the “Vault - purchase past exclusives” section, and you’ll find the link listed there. :)
