I'm currently working on improving the AI decision trees even further for AoBL. While doing this, I'm trying to mimic natural/organic behaviour to avoid AI look like total terminator.

Would you prefer a challenging AI ( which crunches numbers and evaluates your base, probably better and faster than you ) or natural AI which doesn't take too many factors into the equation but looks more human-like? I'm fairly happy with what I have currently actually but I know that this might be too trivial for certain Age-of-like-game players or too challenging for new starters.

I voted for "Make organic as possible" but do not have strong opinions either way provided there are difficulty settings? When I play games like Age of Empires I tend to impose my own rules on myself which make playing against an easy army quite difficult (e.g. I might have a rule where I can only lose 20 soldiers in the entire game etc etc).

I'm planning to provide some difficulty settings in the future, currently it only has "Balanced" AI. Which works in a way that it first follows Maslow's principle and ensures that it has enough economic resources to support a failed attack or even support an attack. This doesn't mean that there is a hardlimit for AI on where it can create attacker units - it actually continues to create military units for it's own defence. And only attacks once it's after certain threshold and resource limit. But if it's on Alarm state, meaning that you are also attacking at the same time on where it was planning to attack you, then he moves all troops to it's own base to defend it. And their tower defence is fairly solid most of the times - because I tend to forget these things and they hit hard

I guess for now I would still think the AI should as organic as possible. But when you add difficulty settings I am sure people would appreciate some sort of "ruthless" difficulty setting where the AI can perform on a less human like way.
