Macedonian Battle Tactics!

I wanted to spend some time going over some fundamental principals before progressing any further down the Alexander the Great path.

My goal was to release this video in the first week of July after the upcoming long weekend, but since I miraculously finished it ahead of schedule, Patrons get it super-duper-mega-ultra early.

(My rule of thumb is that I charge Patrons whenever the video goes out to the general public, so this one won't become "official" until next month.  Just FYI.)

Enjoy!

Hey Historia Civilis, would you mind reuploading this video to Vimeo since the audio was removed at the start of this video on YouTube?

Jake Bankes

Yessss so we all kinda got it. Awesome video 👌

Nice! I am about to watch this now. I have been thinking about your channel and what you could do as far as series. Obviously you have a Julius Caesar Series, and it is fantastic, and it seems Alexander will have his own series, but maybe other things need series too. I thought of a few: Evolution of Greek Warfare, Crusades, Charlamagne, and if you decide to branch out, in China, you could cover the Three Kingdoms, or the Campaigns of Yue Fei, and in Japan, there is the Sengoku period. I dont really know much about Japan. Anyway, in the end, whatever you decide to do will probably be great.

I have a .txt file called “FUTURE TOPICS.” I just went in there and did a quick count, and right now we're sittin' at 84. You know what wasn't in there? Charlemagne. Now it's up to 85. In all seriousness, when I was naming the channel I was very careful not to name is something like “ANCIENT ROME EXPLAINED,” so that I was free to branch off onto different topics as I wished. I'm very glad I did that. The possibilities are endless.

Oh Great. I am glad I could help. I was worried I was spamming your patreon page. Anyway, if i come up with another one, and i think it is actually a good idea, i will tell you. BTW, I tried a few months ago to make one of these videos just for fun. I didn't get very far, but I might try to finish. I was going to do a video on the Battle of the Allia River and describe the Roman culture and government and compare it with the Celtic culture and government as a main feature. It is not as exciting as Caesar, but there might be a video there. If you dont have that topic, and if i feel like doing it in the next few months, maybe I could email it to you and you could edit it how you want and post it on your site. I wouldn't expect anything in return. I just like history and producing this kind of stuff.

Great video really enjoyed it! I hope your going all the way up to Caesars civil war :)

This was great! Alexander, Julius Ceasar, and Genghis Khan are some of the most interesting conquerors. Seeing information about the CC and the hammer and anvil technique is awesome!

I'm not interested in accepting submissions, but the more history videos on YouTube the better. Finishing stuff is a good habit to get into, even if the finished product stinks.

So this is what warfare looked like before Clinton cruise missiles and BushObamaTrump drones! I don't know tactics; I was only a low-ranking air defender. High quality research and presentation, as always!

Nice that you have bunch of other projects pelannee but hopefully sole Rome videos still come out between other series.

Brandon

I have been inspired to research more about Caesar because of your videos, and I think I found some more areas that you could do videos on. You have probably already thought of it, but I will just mention it to you just in case. Basically it is Sulla vs. Marius. That would feed in just nicely into a Caesar timeline. Frankly, I dont know much about it, I just noticed that there seemed to be more than a single battle or two, as well as some political consequences and military changes that came from this period.
