Caesar's Funeral (44 B.C.E.)

Next video is up, just in time for Ides of March Eve!

I hope everybody has their Ides of March decorations set up and their Ides of March gifts wrapped.  (Hint: every gift is just another dagger.)

...

Seriously, everybody have a safe and productive Global Quarantine!  I'm doing my part, one additional YouTube video in the world, +1 to social distancing.

Be safe, everyone.

YES! Early birthday present for a kid born on the Ides of March. This is gonna be good!

Chris Persen

Whoho! Praise be Historia civilis!

Dre

I'm born on the ides of march too XD glad this came out

Historia Civilis

EVERYBODY WITH A MARCH 15TH BIRTHDAY, SOUND OFF. Only two more and we're into weird statistical anomaly territory.

Dargthur Digby Sellers

So when they started panicking, they did NOT just go out and stock up on toilet paper? ;)

Historia Civilis

Ripping off your own clothes in a fit of hysteria and threatening to beat up a bunch of Senators is objectively cool. Buying toilet paper under ANY circumstances is objectively lame. That's just how it is, I don't make the rules.

Dre

Haha tbf a anomaly could be explained by a rationalization that people who are born on the ides of march could be more inclined to like Julius Caesar or at least here about him more as I'm sure I'll be told beware the Ides of March 23 times tomorrow. Though not saying that's true some people ask if my obsession with him is because of my birthday and it's not as I found him boring when I was young but it could to some others. Also fun fact about me my dad wanted to name me Caesar before I was born as I'm mostly Italian but my mom didn't want to so that would have been a really werid coincidence

I think it's funny how roman mobs can rise up to stop any gathering. Also I've been watching your channel for a long time and I'm amazed with the amount of quality and creativity that's put into each and every video. This is why you've been the only one I support on patreon.

Another great video, can't wait for the next one hopefully following on from this.

Have you read Michael Parenti's book on Caesar? The Assassination of Julius Caesar: A People's History of Ancient Rome. It looks at Caesar as an extension of the Gracchi brothers and the struggle between the common Plebs vs the extremely wealthy Patricians (although at this point in time the hereditary distinction between the 2 classes was mostly gone and it was really the commoners vs the Elites or the 1% as we would call them today). I had studied Latin and Roman history in high school and always loved it but I never could figure out what the motivations of the parties involved was but he makes it pretty clear what Caesar's politics were and what his aims were. He is really not a fan of the Senate and esp Cicero. Anyway, would be interested in if you were familiar and considered any merit to his ideas which certainly run counter to most historians even those in favor of Caesar.

Costin Postolache

thanks for the recommendation on Michael Parenti. I'm ordering the book now !

Well, my birthday is March 15 too XD Thanks for the gift!

enoderf

(And my middle name is actually Caesar, lol)

You have no idea how much I love your videos, it makes my day Everytime a new one comes out, I binge your chronological order playlist from top to bottom at least every month, I just want to thank you for enlightening me with all this wonderful knowledge
