While not necessarily a design pattern, my first day in design school taught me a very valuable lesson.

one of my early art class epiphanies was when I was in a AP art class in high school, I always drew as precisely as possible usually with a mechanical pencil and tried to make every line perfect. Within the first week my teach literally took my mechanical pencil away and said I could only use fat brushes and my fingers for the rest of the year, it completely broke me out of my constraints. My style went in the opposite direction in college. I would need to work pretty hard to get back to that level of creativity again.

Deep truth. This could be highlighted by a recent scandal that occurred when a Design Group denied that they stole a logo from another designer, but their working method proved that in every step, they made a deliberate choice of copying the original design... They received 20 thousand dollars for a really bad copy, https://twitter.com/capellan2000/status/1319077091598622720/photo/1

Sorry to hear that. I have a similar story. Amazing how many adults squash the creativity of the young.
