Thank you so much, Amanda, for bringing this legendary banger down our rabbit hole! The amount of iconic lyrics in this song is almost laughable!

Check out the Miss Americana doc. It’s incredible.

I wasn’t at the 1989 tour but I did go to The Eras tour in Sydney and the crowd did the chant during blank space. I do have my own video from that moment but I clearly didn’t have the mic set to directional because it’s just me screaming ‘SYDNEY’ very loudly and very off key so I won’t subject you to that. Instead I’ll share a couple of short TikTok’s. This first one (40 seconds long) is from inside the stadium. https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSueyhxKT/

This next one is only 25 seconds long but it’s from outside the stadium and shows how LOUD it was. It’s hard to see in the video but if you peek beyond the tree you’ll glimpse a few of the thousands of “Taylor-gaters” who would hang out near the stadiums every night of the tour, getting dressed up, singing and dancing and having fun. https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSuef1vnV/

I don’t deal amazingly with big crowds these days typically but I didn’t have any issues with it that night despite the absolute chaos (particularly the 2 hours shoulder to sweaty shoulder it took to get out of the stadium, onto a train and back to our hotel afterwards) I never felt uncomfortable, the vibes were just immaculate, it felt safe, like I was just hanging out with 80,000 of my closest mates. I was 45, there with my 16yo niece, there was 2 couples in their late 20s / early 30s beside us, a family with young kids in front of us. It was such a diverse crowd and everyone was just so welcoming and sweet. The only thing I can compare it to is wayyy back in the late 90s early oughts when I was right into the rave scene. We also would dress up (dress to express we used to say), it also felt like a safe welcoming community where everyone was immediately your best friend, and we even had friendship bracelets (except we called them Kandy) 😅

Im actually super in love with the fact that you guys know the song. It makes me wanna come hang out and sing with you!!! 🫶🏻 Thank you for indulging me in this video :) I really love how fun you guys are and how much you enjoy each other. It reminds me of me and my husband :)

Great reaction as usual!!! Talking about transitions, Taylor is the absolute QUEEN of bridges. They are masterpieces. Swifties can talk about and dissect her bridges for ages. You talked about how many songs she has that must be hits. As a Swiftie from day one, there are honestly only a handful of songs I don’t personally consider hits. Her writing is so beautiful and just somehow able to connect with everyone. Even though most songs are deeply personal to her, I always say Taylor writes the soundtrack of my life. That connection makes very few songs NOT feel like hits. The amount of absolute GEMS of songs you’ve never heard on the radio is staggering. I can’t wait to watch you discover them!

Amanda

I thought you’d really like how she did the live looping there at the end of the 1989 performance! It’s not like the music video or the album recording and so just like always she brings something special to the live show for people that you just don’t get anywhere else!! The 1989 tour has a lot of great hits (you’ll know them!) and it’s VERY cool how she switches them up for the stage.

Amanda

I’m super excited for you to continue your journey and thank you for taking the time to watch these two videos!! I think you guys discovering the layers will be a lot of fun. Nothing is quite as black and white with Taylor’s music as it might seem from the outside—even her billion-view hits!! I appreciate you both and hope you have a great day! (Now I’m gonna have Blank Space stuck in my head all day!)

Amanda

(Or Blank Slate lol)

Yesss! They would LOVE the Miss Americana Doc!

This is such an iconic song. Pop perfection. If you guys are interested, there's another really great performance of this - at the Grammy Museum. It's acoustic and she actually talks about why she wrote the song beforehand. Highly recommended, even if you don't do a reaction to it. I seriously can't WAIT until you start to dive into her albums. The true magic and beauty of Taylor's work lies beyond the singles and radio hits - her albums are filled with gems, truly.

glad you watched the sydney performance, too. blank space is one of taylor's best clap backs to everyone debating her dating life. the 1989 world tour happened while taylor was still with big machine records and didn't have as much creative control. this is what she was talking about in the eras tour docuseries where she said the vision for backup dancers is sometimes about the look the creative director is seeking. every dancer here is male and has a similar look and body type. taylor seemed to have a bit more control of the choices for dancers in the next tour for reputation, where you will see a lot more diversity and male and female dancers. the guy who takes her microphone from her at the end is an italian dancer named Giuseppe Giofrè, and he features prominently on rep tour

She’s the bridge QUEEN!!! Best bridge I think is from TSMWEL!!

Glad you guys watched a live version as well as the video! Such a smart way to do it! I love, love, love your guys reaction videos!! You’re AMAZING!♥️

Caroline

her catalog is crazy!!

Jennrw13

Her whole set and song explanations at the Grammy Museum induction are amazing, and knowing you love the docuseries, you would definitely love this. I would say you could add it to your list to do when you get to your 1989 album review.

Our Bridge Queen!!! I absolutely love the live looping at that show! I watched quite a few of the Eras Tour livestreams, and you could hear Swifties shouting "Sydney" during this song! It's such an iconic Taylor moment to me! I am loving watching your journey! Some of my favorite Taylor songs were never radio hits - there is something so special about how she can write about her own life, but make us feel as if she's writing just for us!

Nicole Andrews

Love watching your reactions. You are both so real and genuine, and get emotional easily (like me.) I would love to have you react to her live performance of “Out of the Woods” 1989 tour. 💕

Nicole Andrews

I love the Miss Americana doc. I’ve watched it numerous times, and would love ti watch it again through your reaction. 💕

If I recall correctly, she chose to have all male dancers as a clap back to critics. "You think I'm a serial dater? Well LOOK AT ALL THESE POTENTIAL VICTIMS! The dancers were also part of the "Look What You Made Me Do" MV as the paparazzi.

Helen W

Just to add on... random "haters" claim 1) She can't sing or 2) She's lip-syncing. So, live looping is a raspberry to all of them (as is the "STOP" "GO" in the live version of "Trouble."

TopTierTaylor

We love living vicariously through you both seeing these iconic performances for the first time. It's literally my favorite Serotonin rush. When you mentions you like that she does her ad libs I immediately thought wait until Tay hits them with the 3 part self harmony loop from the 1989 tour performance. Keep up the great reaacts, I really love the format you are doing and happily for us you are just scratching the surface. Oh and Kyle, the catalogue is DEEP, her later released vault tracks alone would be a hyper successful career and they did not even make the cuts for the original albums! 1989 alone has zero skips and is widely known as the well deserved "Pop Bible " moniker .

Mex

you are right, i do remember hearing she did decide to have all male dancers for that reason. but I'm not sure she chose the actual dancers or them all looking so similar. could be. i do like the direction she went with the eras tour and its more representative choices. i think mandy more said she chose 25 dancers who were all perfect for the tour and then taylor chose the 15 that made it personally

Kmajla13

As always loved your reaction. Humor in this song is so my that sometimes I’ll just laugh at certain part like she just told me a joke

Karin Rommel

I think the Miss Americana doc is such a good insight into how Taylor really evolved into who she is...LOVE IT

DreaAnnTW

Yes Miss Americana please!!!

Alanna Percival

Oh thats so cool!! Thank you for sharing that with us!!

Karel Painchaud

You guys HAVE to watch "We are never ever getting back together" live from the 1989 Word Tour. It's next level!! But watch the original version first.
