there’s a line on a song from reputation album when she was first falling in love with joe (the 6 year) relationship that goes “is this end of all the endings” and the one-two combo of this song with “it’s happening again/how did it end” is absolutely heartwrenching to me

What you will notice about any intensely emotional song of hers that she’s sang live on the eras tour during the surprise songs she will tap into that feeling no matter how happy she is now. Because at this moment, she was with Travis, but it’s truly healing and like therapy for her for her to just let herself feel that emotion while she’s singing it and I think this song is such a great example of that.

breakups are gut wrenching in private, but sadly, taylor's have all been public since high school. and when the people she's falling out with are all famous like her, it's such a massive topic of conversation on social media and in the press. i love that the crowd at this show understood the emotional depth of this song, sang with taylor, but got quiet when she sang softly to just absorb it all and not drown her out. tortured poets is an exceptional album. can't wait to see more of your reactions to the songs!

If you listened to the Joe breakup trifecta you were given the wrong order to listen in. It should have been you’re losing me, so long London, how did it end. Lyrics in you’re losing me are brought back in so long London, she wrote it before they broke up about coming to terms with the relationship coming to an end.

Really enjoying your reactions. I wanted to say that many of us mixed up TTPD with the Dead Poets Society (the movie) when we first heard the name of this album. Taylor even brought in two of the actors from the movie in her music video for the lead single off the album (Fortnight) so she was well aware of the association 😛

I think “we learnt the right steps to different dances” is one of the most heartbreaking lines. “They called it all off”. THEY. Neither did wrong. It just wasn’t right anymore. They were both right, just not for each other. 🥲

THANK YOU!!!! This is one of my favorite Taylor songs and one of my favorite acoustic performances she's done, it's just stunning. As others have mentioned, there are 3 songs that hit really hard about this breakup - So Long London, How Did It End and You're Losing Me, which is the only one you haven't done now. She wrote You're Losing me at least a year before their actual breakup, so it was left off the Midnights album until well after their breakup had been made public - then she released it as a vault track. I honestly think these are 3 of her very best songs.

One of the best TTPD songs, so beautiful. I’m always so torn about new TS reactors and the order they should go through albums. Part of me thinks they should start at the beginning and work through, to see her evolution as an artist. But probably a bigger part of me is impatient to see my favorite songs reacted to, and most of those are on her later albums. 😂

It was lovely listening to this sad, beautiful song with you! I must say Alana, you are beginning to hear these songs like a Swifty! I always worry a little about people getting ready to go down the Tortured Poets Department rabbit hole. The songs include some of her best writing and beautiful melodies...and are some of my personal favorites. But I just caution that there are a lot of songs and many of them are simply devastating. So please be prepared if you plan to do the album in one go. It is a deep and winding journey into the emotions of losing someone, living in the public eye, and the first moments of true love. And Alana...I know you are a writer....the prolog poem on this album is a masterpiece (in my opinion). Thanks!!!!!!

TTPD is such a masterpiece of an album. It's so dense with lyrics and imagery that many people couldn't appreciate it when it was released, and many even now. I hope you two will eventually listen to this album in it's entirety, as it was meant to be heard. Although, you might need therapy after 😭

TTPD is so heavy and long but it’s SO well written and relatable and honest and dark. Even most of the bops are lowkey super sad if you just read the lyrics (“I Can Do It With A Broken Break” for example).

I usually recommend reactors starting at 1989 and then going in order and then circling back for the Debut-Red because I think the early albums aren’t as easily appreciated by new listeners as the 1989/Rep eras which are super catchy. I do feel like the folklore-evermore-midnights-TTPD run should be in order because it’s incredible. Exception made for an early listen to “All Too Well” for the obvious incredible reasons and it brings in a lot of new Swifties.
