Over the weekend, Kyle did something amazing and surprised me with the perfect gift! I love gifts—especially when they’re functional, beautiful, thick, square, and full of ink. On his way to drive our friend Rogier back to the airport, Kyle found exactly that while waiting on the ferry: a beautiful purse with something special hidden inside.

Not only is the purse gorgeous, but it’s also cruelty-free and reversible—a much-needed replacement for my old purse, which has been slowly falling apart for ages (though I still somehow manage to use it). No more fighting with broken zippers!

But the best part was hidden inside the smaller bag tucked within the larger one: a limited-edition paperback with sprayed edges by an author I had mentioned to him before.

Little did he know, this author is known as the queen of dark romance, and the book he was about to buy may very well lead him down a path he’ll need a lantern to follow.

The book in question is Blood and Roses by the same author who wrote Quicksilver, a book I still have waiting on my Kindle to be devoured.

But back to Blood and Roses—now I have a beautiful new dual-bag purse and a spicy new book to go with it!

And honestly? The best part is that Kyle and I have decided to read it together. Since the book is dual POV, Kyle will be reading the male perspective, while I will take the female POV. I genuinely cannot wait.

I don’t think Kyle fully understands the level of emotional damage and morally questionable men he just signed himself up for.

So I have a question for you all. Have you ever convinced your partner to read a romance book with you?

This was so sweet of Kyle. You are both so well-attuned to each other’s needs and wishes. I see it during reactions when one of you gets quiet or has tears in their eyes, and the other one is immediately focussed on making sure everything is OK. It’s a very relatable part of your relationship which you allow us to see. As for your question, if I asked my husband to read a book with me, he’d think i’d missed my medication. 😂 Like Alanna, I am a ravenous reader. Two or three books a week most of the time. My husband very rarely picks up a book. He prefers other immersive media like movies, gaming, etc. He does most of his reading online. Hmm, I just peeked at the synopsis (and trigger warnings) for this book. 🤭 I hope Kyle can handle what he’s gotten himself into!

OH! I have in the past several months, become a dark and spicy reader. I may have to read this one! Such a sweet and spicy idea for you both.

The darkest boom I have read is Alchemised and the second darkest is Rose in chains. So this is a whole new level for me!
